You could say the same about banfield....Round 11 last year, is the sub. Plays full game in round 12 against Brisbane, has an immediate impact and kicks 4 goals.Plays well again the next week against Hawthorn and kicks 2.....
Yep, even last year when Banfield was kicking goals coming on as sub. They expect it's a given..but if they had someone like Erasmus or Sturt do that they would proclaim how great it was. They don't think he is in current b22 and first one should be dropped when the whole team is playing shit, when he wasn't even the worst.

He was our 6th highest goal kicker last year, despite been sub in 8 games.....
Not flashy enough or young enough I guess.

******* lol.

Taking potshots at people who gave up their time to watch the boys train for being too positive.
I know right, its like "take that training watching stuff to the positivity thread!!!".

I mean we have plenty to vent about, but the great comments and effort we get (FOR FREE!!) from those that are kind enough to get down to training and then tell us what they saw are just wonderful. Especially for us over East, it is a great source of insight and just a bit of a good feed of info - without the bias of the Wet Orstralian, the Nic Nat Times or the Carrot Farmer / Crumpet Face / Col Baby garbage.

Let's not vent about the folks who are good enough to do the training comments.
If you want to vent, be grateful I'm not over there, or you'd be getting twelve page monologues with shaky portrait mode 480p vision of training session warm ups, complete with audio of me farting in the background...

I just want to understand what happened. It's not as if the training watchers are clueless. They clearly saw some very good signs on the training track. But how does that translate to the current mess we're seeing? Does it mean that the skills are there, and the game plan is the primary issue?

Not sure a large part of the team should be out on the booze after a loss like that either. Whatever happened to team rules of not drinking through the season?

It’s a very disgruntled team at the moment, don’t let the positive facade they put on during the week fool you.

If the team doesn’t care, why should we.

I'm doubting myself a bit after my 14th pre season of watching on

I could be completely wrong but I don't think it's their skills or athleticism. I put it mostly on game plan.

This chip it around while all the op players have covered space and players. Then they panick kick as they are under pressure.

Forwards have no space to lead into.

They look completely different to the intras

Every clubs Pre season reports are positive, the training is simulated to make sure the drill is done correctly for the optimum result. Training watchers can only report what they see & it’s up to us to ask a couple of questions to see what the pressure & intensity is like with the drill.

My concern reading the reports this year was the lack of intense contested training drills by the players which we are desperately getting found out for now. At the contest, we are fumbly, lack cohesion, struggle to find space & re just doing the basics wrong.

The fastest ball movement comes out of stoppages & when we win a clearance it’s clunky but gives us our best chance of a shot on goal. The problem we have is our KPF‘s are non existent in the air due to size & age, although Jackson does provide a contest & will get better.

We need to be more precise with our stoppage work, as the GC allowed us last week in the 2nd half & we can hit our forwards on the lead without the opposition setting up.

Kick outs is another issue & we did have some success last year early with the long kick to Darcy, but now it’s like clockwork & the opposition get more numbers to that contest & generally win it back, which is a pain in the ass because it’s the one of the rare times your given time to control the ball.

Those having a go at the training watches can GGF, they give us what they see & it’s much appreciated.

My vent is I LOVE THIS CLUB WITH ALL MY HEART!! And I really wish I didn’t. I wish my nan and pop didn’t take me as a 11 year old to my first football game Freo VS Fitzroy round 22 of 1996 that started my obsession. I don’t know what happened that game but I became an obsessed FIEN for Freo ever since. It’s as bad as a drug habit. Thanks nan and pop My heart has been broken ever since. But I tell you what. I will always love this love. It’s my drug.

Worst part about this game was it meant finally accepting that this season will be a write off, and there's not going to be some miraculous turn around from players/coaching staff. And there's literally no benefit to it. Even when Collingwood traded their future first and then finished bottom it didn't matter because it would've been spent on Daicos anyway.

Every coach evolved with their game plan, decided playing fast was the way to go, and spent all pre-season grooming their players to do so. Meanwhile we stuck with what got us figured out last year and spent the entire pre season playing ourselves and drinking our bathwater because tbh versing us would make anyone look good.

We are just about the worst side in the comp at the moment. Barely scraping home against Suns and only getting on top of wce once they lost their entire bench. And in none of our losses have we even looked close to winning. Not even patches or quarters of good or exciting footy against any teams with a glimmer of skill. Just pure, uncompetitive football.

And it's largely due to the arrogance of those higher up. Logue would've stayed if he was guaranteed to play back imo, but instead we kept harping on about how we want to keep him because he's so versatile he can go up forward too. There was clearly not going to be any space for him in our forward line this year. And Acres just wanted a fair deal to reflect his season, and Bell was too petty to even give him that. We had no replacement for him, and he was a solid part of why we were so good last year. Watching Dogs wings run the length of the ground every time without fail because we had no one at the fall of the ball. He'd be good enough to at least get a spoil in when the kick was coming out from d50.

Meanwhile instead of grooming someone like Chapman, who has natural skills, in the wing role, we give that to another defender who hasn't played a game in a year and a half and was always just "courageous" at best. Playing Chapman up the ground could've solved two problems at once. Given us a winger and guaranteed Logue a spot in our backline. Logue would've been so ******* useful last night, and against all other teams with three talls. I don't care about the other guys that left. Dickhead Mc*face was always on his way out, and Tucker and Meek were depth we let go who were in contract. But Logue could've been locked away early, and Acres for a fair price and instead we received absolute * all from the because we let them go in a contract year.

Additionally, the guys who were keeping Logue out have been absolutely putrid this year. Pearce has conceded at least 3 goals directly every single game. When your captain is doing that what tone does it set for the rest of the team? Gets caught out so easily 1v1 and will give away at least two goals a game from holding free kicks. Ryan offers nothing defensively or offensively. At least last year he was still getting crucial, goal saving intercepts to make up for his inability to defend his man. Was so frustrating watching him trail behind his player every single time the ball went in. He's fat an unfit and can't keep up. Cox is so far from his form last year too its not even funny. At his best he's intercepting freely around the ground and playing on quickly and using the ball well, and rarely getting beaten in a 1v1 contest. Did not have a single intercept mark yesterday. Pearce playing poorly has directly impacted his performance too. We dropped Logue early on last year for a performance that was still so much better than anything Pearce has shown this season.

I was in the camp that Mundy retiring last year was the right thing because he offered little two way running. But holy s*t at least he would rack up impactful clearances. If he had Darcy's service right now he'd be back to his best form imo, as well as providing some much needed leadership to our midfield. Instead we replace him with just-as-bad-defensively JOM, who's clearances consist of dinky little handballs to no one. 4 years. 4 ****** years. Peter Bell is such a ******* joke. The only player in our midfield who's decided to step up is a tiny 178cm 22 year old. Our stoppage set ups are so ******* putrid too. Time and time again throughout the game all our mids would get sucked into the contest while Dogs just handballed to the outside and we were no where to be found. Joel Corey is not a midfield coach.

It's time we start calling around to find some competent, EXPERIENCED coaches that have zero connection to our club in the slightest. In the meantime, we're stuck having to sit through this bullshit all season with no compensation at the end of it, becasue of the arrogance and stubbornness from those in charge.
The way Pearce is treated around the club is teeth grinding. Leadership v talent/worth. This club is so well known for the hard work plodders.
Pearce is just a defender stopping his opponent. That’s all he has ever been good for. This season he can’t do that, and he’s absolutely useless in everything else.

Jl played his favourites and forced his hand with Logue. Should’ve been easily fixed by developing Chapman in the wing, and push Logue back. What did he do? Have to promote Henry, at threat of being traded. He’s absolutely the worst top 10 pick of the last 10 years. What a fraud.

Stupidity with these decisions.

I know it’s only 6 games, but JOM at 29 and this is his best. 4 seasons of this? Yet can’t offer Acres, at 26 a two year deal. Can’t even

Why have we regressed so much? Is this a combination of coaching and players leaving .Losing Logue and Acres was appaling, surely part of running a club is holding onto team players. What has happened to our midfield? Where is the spirit? Is Longmuir going to strip our young players of their natural talent? Something seems really rotten . Honestly think that our worst under Ross was better than this shite. It always feels like we want to try and one up the budgie smugglers and get some joy out of the fact that they are worse than us.Ego and arrogance got us Jackson for a far to hefty price .
It’s a vent, but our worse under Ross was depression inducing stuff. Holy shit. Back to back to back 100 point losses.
Think 15? Unanswered goals v Geelong.

Nah, this squad is young. If it wants to be hurt, then have to show the next few weeks

What scares me is I know Peter Bell loves this club as I know Justin longmuir does.
Just as much as us..

Peter Bell had a newspaper clipping above his bed as a junior and the fat ass little kid would run every day with the 1 goal of playing for this Fremantle team that were due to come into the competition.
He was Freod' and was sent to the north Melbourne after 1 season, winning premierships at the roos before coming home to captain this stupid ass club..

They are not mercenaries here for the dollars.
They are purple hearted mofos like you and I.

If they can't drag us up then who can..
😭

Honestly!! You hit it!! Peter bell came back to the club as quickly as he could despite us trading him after one season. And you only have to watch Justin’s kick after the siren against St Kilda to know how much he loves the club. WTF are we gonna do?

Today majority were at the pub watching Peel but I only saw one or two glasses.

Haha at least you are owning it.
That preseason thread was hideous TBH. I remember saying on it during the peak of the hubris on here that Amiss needed to have a massive season for us to have a chance of winning anything this year and that he was the most important 19 year old in the league.
Got a few condescending replies from Daddoo and a few others “oh you must be fun at parties” “why can’t you just enjoy where we are at”

We are so ******* amazing. Blah blah blah.

Bottom 3 and out first rounder and second rounder over in Melbourne. JFC
I’ve just realised you and Daddoo are not the same person.

It's coaching, how can it not be?

A few games ago we beat the bulldogs in a final from an unwinnable position and played below our best and kept it respectable against Collingwood in a semi-final. Nothing in terms of on-field talent has changed enough for this performances to be blamed on anything else.

It’s both, we had all of Mundy, Acres, Logue and Lobb play both those finals.
The coaching and confidence is way down across the board though which leads to players fumbling and second guessing themselves.

Desperately need to reset, accept we’re the underdogs in 5 of the next 6 games and remove the weight of expectation and tell the players to play on instinct instead of this maintain the ball at all costs game plan we have had for 5 weeks.

Oh and train all week on the “contest” whatever that actually means.

That footage from on The Round So Far where JUH is about have a shot just made my blood boil yet again.
6 Freo players including Adam Treloar’s man (guessing it was JOM) turn their backs on the play to have a scrap with Rory Lobb while Treloar waltzes in a dangerous position, gets the front and centre and puts them 4 goals up.

The way our defenders acted like tough campaigners and then played like scared little boys is frankly embarrassing. I seriously hope the boys have been told to make sure they’ve got their mouth guards at training this week. Looks to me like there’s been way too many cuddles and back slaps and nowhere near enough contact since the start of preseason. The boys better toughen up quick smart because our lack of physicality in the contest would be front and Centre of every oppo coach’s planning for us now.
