I always knew we were due a plateau (I didn't think it was going to tilt the other way but even staying still would not have been good) but I still hold firm to the belief that our window opens next year and will be open for 3 to 5 years.

I have always been a bit iffy about Longmuir, J - but only because he's reasonably rizz-free. Seems like a good manager. Has sound football ideas. Has hunger.

But he's not a freak. I think you have to be a nutcase to be an AFL coach. That's a given, but with the really nutty ones, it's not just results which separate a Neeld from a Macrae. Charisma is a huge part of it.

And does Longy have it?

Of course, it's not the talking to me via footy media that matters. It's the talking to the players. I suspect he has that covered. We're in the Pat Cummins era after all. We connect. We build. Blah de fuggen blah.

But I am from Freo. I don't want a counsellor. I don't want a MBA-wielding corporate shill. I want John Todd. I want Big Ron Alexander. I want ****en Mal Brown instructing the Souths boys to break Bomber Peake's ****en jaw. I actually need some freakiness. I want the authenticity that comes with a little bit of lack of control.

Rip some shit up, Freo boys.

I do not care if you lose if you genuinely played to win.

Left without comment.

But, wow.
If our media/public relations people think that that's what we want to hear, then the club is in an even worse position than I thought. We are playing consistent footy. Unfortunately it's consistently crap.

Do really think overly rigid rules work with something as fluid and dynamic as a team list?

Is a rebuild even an actual thing? What constitutes a rebuild? When does it start/stop? What if you think you need to rebuild the middle third age bracket of your list, to match the developing and experienced thirds?
Probably not as rigid, but I think you must treat a rebuild differently to when you are contending.

What is good for one, is not good for the other. There is lots of phases e.g. early rebuild, later rebuild (almost playing finals and have a good young list), reach finals, top 4, top 2.

Remember people made fun of Cerra for saying the same thing? Now the shoe is on the other foot.
Bazball minus the entertainment

Think it's a bit different though, Brayshaw is saying this when the season is clearly shot and over while Cerra was saying this shit very early in the season.

Firken firk…

I never watch channel 7, but just flicked it on and JLo is on. Firken contest contest contest - is there any more overused word in this bloke’s vocab? Oh, and we need to ‘tinker’.

Oh now FMD - why does Barich sound like he straining to do a poo when he talks??

Ugh 👁️ 🖊️ stab…

Someone serious needs to pull him aside and stop using the word contest. I swear he’s trolling us at this stage.
He’s got to be one of the least inspiring guys I’ve ever heard speak. Are we deluding ourselves thinking this guy can win us a flag?

His vocabulary is conservative.

Wellll, the contest is pretty important. It's pretty understandable that it would be on a coach's mind when things are crappy.

If he's looking for variety though he could chuck in a few "cleaner collecting the ball/one-touch collects"s, "better at absorbing pressure"s, "upping the pressure ourselves"sss, "back ourselves in and take on the game more"s (although he might've already been using this one).

Two of the biggest vent topics today have been JL’s ‘contest’ and AB’s ‘pass/fail’ which are both cliches but fairly apt comments at the same time.

Id actually rather not hear from him at all instead of just listening to banal cliched crap in these interviews.
I wonder if he bangs on and on endlessly to the players about The Contest too? If he does it’s not getting though as we are just about the softest side in the AFL

Some of the blame has to be on Darcy too. Especially when he was tapping it
down towards Carlton’s goals.
He needs to use his bulk to clear a path, and be more intimidating.
But tapping behind you let the Blues run straight at goal.
NN could do this with precision straight to his players, 360 degree rotation but
also use his frame, tackle to win contests. Darcy just gave them first use.
That and our players just went to ground, couldn’t keep their feet, Carlton did
and handballed their way through.
Next preseason we need a proper stoppage coach, contested ball whatever you
want to call it.
Guaranteed he will be looking at strength training to improve.
Before I get shot down Ryan Crowley was benching serious numbers.
Even Dean Kemp benched 140 kg.

Who would of though after a decent year where we win 15 games and a final that we would sink to the same old shite we’re used to the year after.
According to some posters it’s totally fine. Lowballing mid aged best 22 players is fine.

Now pumping games in to high talent is obviously a good thing..well why were Wilson and Tabs getting games before youth early in the year. Why give JOM 4 years? Why draft a mature ager.

They were trying the balance act and still make finals but we quickly realised Acres, Logue, Mundy and lesser extent Lobb are big losses on game day. Onus is on Bell there.

Now it’s up to our stubborn coach to get the best out of our new 22 and develop the youth.

Ethan Hughes needs to make 100 games and then get delisted come the end of the season.

Is our club good at anything off field other than zoomer style social media marketing? These campaigners will boast about membership numbers and profits. That's the easy part you campaigners. Perth people are some of the most bored and cashed up in the world abd we like footy.

Do you really think that that still having 2 average players like Acres and Logue in the 22 instead of someone else would really make that much of a difference to the way we are going? I'd argue despite being a flog Lobb would be more useful as well. Mundy is of course irreplaceable and the only one I'd describe as big loss.

Couldn't believe that when I saw it. I know I am boring when I say it, but strengths are weaknesses. When he has no real opposition, Bubba Darcy has to be unpredictable to the oppo or they are just roving his taps.

Acres and Logue were b22 and Acres is fantastic winger.
