We may not cost them money anymore but we're just a middle of the road club. They don't have to listen to us because we're big enough to have to listen to and they don't have to prop us up to preserve the TV rights/integrity of the competition. They don't need to care about us. We are the working definition of a no-bother club.

That said, the Rising Star tends to go to players who were high picks, who tend to play for teams who were a bit rubbish the year before. It's almost a consolation prize for the teams who aren't competing just yet.

We've had our fair share. (We've got two playing for us right now, in fact!)

Some of them go on to great things.

Luke Jackson and Caleb Serong seem to me to be that kind of player and I am hopeful.

Why don't they want us? We are one of their cash cows
Since when? While we contribute to the overall product I doubt we’re paying anything significant to the AFL these days, rather we give all the leftovers to the WAFC. We’re just self sustained.
Biggest money comes from the TV rights I would have thought and that’s where we don’t really compare to the real big clubs. Whether we want to accept that or not, Freo doesn’t draw big audiences nationwide.

I just like seeing our young guys get their rightful recognition, y'know? Like they deserve their chocolates.

MJ not getting nominated is an absolute joke.
Who cares whether or not the media hypes us up though? I'd rather us just focus on our own game and getting the win every week.

And if you do that often enough, the hype follows.

Our problem seems to be that we don’t win often enough but when we do, the hype and heightened expectations make us choke like eggsucking dogs.

All is not lost though. The 2023 AFLW Buddy Draft is now open for nominations. You'd be Mad(s) not to!!!

As last years buddy of Amy Franklin, I'm steering well clear.

Can’t believe no one has vented about our ball butchering yesterday. Seriously for so called elite youth, we had some absolute shockers. The first and worst was the Serong scrubber in the first that handed Port their first goal. Until then they were absolutely under the pump, we had them rattled, we had 2 goals on the board and should have had at least one more. Their mids were looking shaky under pressure. Then bang, handed them a goal on a platter, they relaxed and played more confident football and proceed to kick the next 4 goals as well.
Bloody shocking from someone many on here want as our captain next year! He needs to eliminate this from his game if he wants to lead a team, a fortnight ago with the game on the line in the dying seconds he did exactly the same thing going into our forward line for what would be our final entry, then people jumped to his defence saying he would have been exhausted carrying the team etc. well midway through the 1st quarter under minimal pressure, he doesn’t have any excuses!

If it’s the moment I remember correctly, he had made a 100m run onto the left half forward flank and was ignored when he was the obvious option. He threw his hands up in the air, ran back and made it to the defensive 50m when he got the ball from a mark. He was spent having put in 150m sprint effort. Then he fluffed the kick.

Schultz and Serong then argued about where he should have kicked it. Was an interesting exchange.

I actually love seeing players arguing on the field at times. Shows they care and are fired up. No surprise it’s those two - both heart and soul players too.
Nothing worse than watching guys go though the motions without caring.

Don't like this side of Schultz. He has this habit of showing his frustration at his team mates .. it's okay to be frustrated but outwardly remonstrating is bit over

There were quite a few scrubber kicks, which makes me suspect it was a directive to stop Port from marking it - create Chaos ball.

Maybe, but the worst ones were to leading forwards. I'm not sure which is worse: not having the skills to kick decent passes, or not having sufficient judgement to recognise that that's not the time to kick a scrubber.

They definitely weren’t deliberate
They were trying to do a stab pass and hit the ground with their boot before connecting

Under 14 stuff
Saw it 3 or 4 times from different players
Deplorable at this level

Sent shivers down my spine seeing that and thinking we are supposed to be finalists next year
