Just saw this on Reddit, what an absolute joke!
It's dated 2013 which shows this problem started way back when we were good. Notably we went goalless in first quarter of the 2013 GF.

It is partially coaching related (both Lyon and Longmuir are defence first) but also indicative of just how poor our recruitment has been for forwards.

Banners and Tabs are better acourding to match committee

Sturt actually has skills. That's why we picked him so high
Imagine picking a project medium forward with goal nous in the first round 5 years ago, watching him kick 3 on debut and win a rising star nom, then giving him just 4 more games in the following 3 and a bit seasons, all the while having one of the most dysfunctional and untalented forward units in the competition?
Yeah welcome to Freo!

If Fyfe isn’t back in the middle when he’s fit and we continue to serve up this shit I’m just about done.
If a coach can’t realise they made a mistake and rectify it when it’s plain to see for everyone, why should we all get so invested?
Don’t forget JL also cost us the game against north by leaving Walters in the subs bench. For the majority of the game.

Although most have no qualms of having Fyfe back in the mids we don't know whether he his body ot fitness will allow it. Even if he is deemed okay to play, it wouldn't be at 100% capacity. The times he did play there last year he had minimal impact and people were complaining he was disrupting the other mids chemistry

Yeah, he just gets caught HTB trying to break tackles in the middle now

Fish rots from the head!

this is from the AFL website:

"We were disappointed we didn't fight it out for the whole game, but we'll look at the good stuff and leverage off that," Simpson said.

"What's today worth, four or five WAFL games? No disrespect to the WAFL, but Reuben is learning a lot on the fly at the moment."

Simpson said the Eagles would be careful not to "break" their young players through over-exposure early in their careers, with Ginbey carrying a significant load in the midfield after just four games.

I found this VERY interesting. Compared to us now, consistently playing Erasmus, Sturt and Johnson etc at Peel. Mundy retires, we pick up Jaeger. I wasn't too unhappy about this at the time, it seemed like an ok, shrewd move. But in reality, was it done because we're too scared to play our 'kids', too afraid if we lose games doing that like pre-2022 years the club would lose its fan's faith etc? Without Mundy, we have a soft belly midfield about to be exposed?! So we go with the 'tried and tested' method? Because guess what, we're losing with our more senior team anyway. We're losing lots.....Mr. Bell, Mr. Longmuir.....Mr. Alcock. What are we actually afraid of here, taking the risks?

I understand we're at differing ends of the scale, them sort of (half-arsed) rebuilding or at least understanding they're not contending, and us pushing into a potential 'Window' (I put this in caps to make it important). But at some point these 'kids' (first rounders no less), who all have undeniable talents and can make it, need to play more AFL than not. We know Bailey Banfield works hard, provides a "good contest" and is serviceable, but there's a reason he's coming off the rookie list. Same with Tabs, who I defended after the West Cost win, but who is hanging by the thinnest of margins now. Of course there's always possible duds, and Henry isn't looking good from where I'm sitting right now...then there's form dips, Brayshaw, Pearce, etc....there's mitigating circumstances to why the whole house of cards is tumbling down, I fully respect that (this ain't much venting, is it?).

Even if they are drip-fed into the system (our "kids") we need to start exposing them to the level (we should have been doing it already!), to me that philosophy that Simpson is showing - desire to recognise high-end talent and expose them to the level to fast-track their experience is a big part of what we're missing, and that desire to back in the actual talent, not fuss about their age or lack of experience. I get that Simpson also says Ginbey will have to be pulled back at some point, but even with our younger talents they can be 'protected' in a team more contending than not....well contending for another failed season right now, sadly. It's utterly maddening!!

Johnson showed a bit in his brief cameos, when was the last time we debuted a player (we drafted, not traded) from the start of a game?!?! Was it Amiss? because I'm pretty sure that was Round 8 last year if so. Even the likes of Melbourne and other clubs pushing for flags do it here and there. Back in your f***ing talent, you chose them for a reason.

I know last year Sturt was held back and played a fair chunk of footy at Peel, with metrics in place to provide more 'intensity' etc and his games there, to be fair were hit & miss, but it's also WAFL level - how does he actually really progress invariably if he's down there constantly?!?! But the same approach seems to be in place this year when he's fit, looks ready to go but is STILL being held back. How long must a player be made to wait?!?! I just don't understand it. It's actual f***in' lunacy.

But hey, I'm not a coach or ex-player analyst. It's Round 5 and it's time to wield the axe, this feels like Ross digging heels in early 2017 because he wanted to play his seniors in belief he could push for Finals - Dawson, Griffin etc. It didn't work then, it isn't working now even though we're at opposite ends of the spectrum from then to now.....sort it the f*** out!!!

I reckon a lot of people's perceptions are coloured by the fact it was Henry, who is public enemy #1 right now.

The players involved are irrelevant though, the point is the Richmond 3peat team give that handball every time. We play like a collection of individuals, not a team.

Yep. Hawkins gives that handball every time too.

******* hell why can't these idiots just smash a bottle of Bundy Rum and go bash some campaigner at the pub like a normal person
or just f'n grow up, get smashed & post stuff on BF, wake up thinking, what did I write & then hopefully not be quoted, before thankfully deleting that post
My vent. I am 55. I reckon with my lifestyle I have 25 years left max.
I predict zero Freo flags in that time & in all likelihood, 2 more tainted wc premierships.
such is life

Damn you look good at 55.

not me. I'm a bloke, but thanks for the compliment.
I was the only bloke in the reformer Pilates class today besides the instructor, & I reckon if we were a group stuck on a deserted island, I'd be busy while he bemoaned there being no guys he liked stranded with him.
That might be a weird way to think of things for most, but I like hypotheticals.
As a Freo fan, of course I do :)
Am I going to need to check nobody has quoted my dribble, tomorrow o_O

When will people stop racially abusing indigenous players?

Nathan Wilson has just recieved online abuse.

Racist and non-racist, we've witnessed plenty of people here on BF who are quick to abuse players personally from behind the safety of a screen. The racist ones are worse but all that sink to personal abuse of players, rather than something constructive are just pathetic and weak.

I cannot believe we have given up a potential top 5 pick this draft.

It's why I am so angry. I could deal with being toilet if there was some silver lining (i.e. the draft) and we used this year to bring Johnson/Ras etc up to speed. But the ****ers took that from us as well with Jackson and JOM. There is nothing to get excited about.

The guys at the Restump podcast sometimes come up with some interesting observations.

They made the point that during the game our players looked for the soft handball receive (rather than blocking the tackler to give our ball carrier space). The moment when Henry looked for the easy one in the goal square from Banfield to kick a goal (but Banfield didn't give it to him) is one example of it, but there are countless.

Quite simply, we are not playing as a team. Players are worried about their stats and nobody wants to get dropped.
Hopefully it has been identified by the coaching group because if it doesn't change, we aren't going anywhere this year.

What’s changed, then? They seemed to be playing for each other last year. Have the way our personnel changes completely shaken everyone that it’s become every man for himself?
