I've dealt with plenty of TAC Cup players. including one or two in my own family, they're all just happy to get drafted and realise, as much as they wopuld like it, they have a mere 5.5 per cent chance of landing at the club they support.
Even if Heppell had left after two years, his trade value would have been significantly more than Conca's has ever been, including what Conca wouold fetch now ... which I remind you is nothing!

Not saying conca was the right call, just why heppell was passed on (acc to rumour)

Those rumours have grown and grown (the one about him only going to Essendon) from the clubs supporters that didn't pick him.

Just guess work, but I think if he came and played the first couple of years, settled in, made friends, made finals, good chance he would have stayed.
Apparently people at pro thought he was arrogant and up himself.
Good leadership qualities IMO. Selwood Ablett Ling Mitchell Hodge.
Oh wait he's captain now. About the most leadership Conca will ever offer is a cuddle. I'm over it as we lost big time and there's no denying it .

Conca held us accountable when his contract was up and we paid way overs to keep him in Vic. Worked out like xxxx.

What does any of that have to do with my post???

Exactly. That's why Melbourne have taken so long to get their crap together. They had access to some of the best kids in the draft pool, but a combination of poor recruiting and bad player development screwed them over.

Compare that to clubs who had a terrific development system in Geelong, Sydney etc, and they had a remarkable success rate for speculative picks, because development often trumps drafting.

Can't we pay that guy a million bucks to come and do our development? The development guy? Go get him Balmey give him what he wants.

You would have a high percentage of draftees that wouldn't get drafted to the club they /parents first supported . So if Toffees statement is true then around 90% of players would want to move
to the club they supported as kids. All bs spin IMO.
I'm looking forward to Hodge turning up at pro at the ripe old age
of 40.

It's better most times for kids not to go to the Club of childhood support. Look at what happened to TV just as one example (extreme perhaps) - talk about an entitled douche bag. He had spent too much time at PRO, too comfortable, too entitled. Family circumstances may not have helped either.

My only real point is that when all things are equal, the struggle and striving to belong will win out over fantasy and love stories every time.

Yep and Lids fell in love with GWS although they never existed in his childhood, but only as a premonition.
Who did Dusty support

matty White another. TV issue was Daddy factor working for the club IMO. Hard to gauge IMO. I'm interested to see how the Silvagni boys go.

I suggested TV was at the extreme end but I know who he hung with at the Club back then as a kid and we discussed it at the start of last season and how he has never really left the Club, and should to become his best. Where as some of his less skilled contemporaries have always worked much harder.

Lids grew up Carlton, his dad played for them.

Dusty is St. Kilda through and through in terms of who he supported, grew up idolising Rob Harvey

Fyfe? Also add Bontempelli and Scully to that 2018 list

Even Boony says cheers to that.

It's all irreversible anyway.
**** the past.
Bitching about the past lets people make excuses. Excuses lets people rationalise why things are the way they are. Understanding removes fear

I'm not scared?

How can stating facts be generalised as xitching? I thought covering up for incompetence and accepting mediocrity is much more severe . Personally I don't like hearing the word bitching used as its sexist ,derogatory and degrading to women.

Thanks Germaine Greer.

That's why you're not bitching about the past :p
Richmond has been built on excuses for the past 30 years!
Not really. Points don't carry over from previous years. Every year has just been a failure. Every year we don't win a Premiership is a failure

Presenting facts can be done in many ways
If you're linking bitching to women then that might be something you need to work on
