If they are going to wrap him in cotton wool all the time like you suggest, he will never play AFL.

He needs to take those hits and not shatter like glass when it happens.

I agree.

The time for cotton wool is over. He must now play his best position and try and force his way into the team.

If he breaks he breaks

I would say they are using Rus off the HBF so he can get some run into hes legs and some confidents in hes abilty and hes body, being a forward sometimes you can go missing which is not good for the confidents yes i know he is a key forward and yes he needs to get back there, but at this stage im happy for him to just get some fitness a touch and some confidents in hes body and ability before he goes forward.

He's done enough. He's kicked his goal. Take him off. His night is over. :p

But seriously, just leave him forward for the rest of the game Rowdy.

Rus took a massive shirt front on his bad shoulder, got up grabbed the ball hand balled on and we scored a goal
All the players ran to Rus and congratulated him

Frost has dyed his hair black

O'Keeffe rucking very well

Scott Reed playing well.

Pies rotating players all over the ground.

K Pendlebury in a class of his own

Pies up by about 8 goals at 3 qtr time

Watch last half of the 2nd and the first half of the 3rd

- Rus moving well, taking hits and running hard. Slotted his 2nd quarter goal easily. 3rd quarter was running of the centre square and moving forward, directing traffic. Not many possessions but he's clicking into gear.

- Shae is interesting. Getting the bounce, spring and muscle work right for a ruck. Needs some Jollification re: where to tap. General play his awareness is still very green, but you'd expect that. Nice penetration on his kick. Could be handy, the development team must be rapt with his progression.

- Pendles Snr was indeed tearing it up.

- 'Sauce' Young was using his body well and getting good position

- Generally there's a massive gap between the 'top' VFL players and the bottom rung. Some (don't know them from boo) were shooting off rocket handballs but the receiver would just fumble/drop/miss them and it'd rebound back. Or they'd handball directly to a player under pressure.

- Kicking straight! Barely saw a point!

From what I saw we'll have smashed them - it was a good opportunity to see them run around anyway. For free!

Ever noticed how good grass smells when footy's being player on it?

Now that's confidence building!

We are looking in very good shape so far with only Dicky left on the comeback trail.

Nah, but we could've rookied him in the last draft, and there were strong rumours that we were going to. Some suggested the reason he didn't end up getting a spot was due to the 'incident' with his brother, but we don't know for sure.

Don't worry about Jack Carter ;) He was worth the pick.

Best were Pendlebury, Young, Reed, O'Keeffe, Rus, Shae

Last qtr was basically goal for goal

Carter took several really good marks at CHB in the last.

Pies won easily

It's great to hear how good Youngs form has been all preseason. Where exactly was he (has he been) played??

It's great news to hear Rus got through unscathed, played up forward and dealt with all the hits that came his way. Couldn't ask for more.

Interesting to see you mention Shae in your bests - very encouraging given that would have to be one of the first handful of actual AFL games he has ever played in.

Rusling didn't play forward at all. He drifted up from half back to take that mark and nicely slot the set shot.
Shae was much better in the ruck this week , easily out jumping and getting first hands to it.
Tom Young is doing very well for someone who is still a year off being drafted , attracts the ball , disposes of it thoughtfully and neatly , uses his body well and doesn't seem to get pushed off the ball.
Reed was played forward and looked good there. He kicked a lovely snap in the 3rd.
Hunter looked good playing mainly as a mid.
Carter got a bit more game towards the end and didn't flinch when he had to back, back to take a mark.

can never have too many confidents

Thanks for the clarification on Rus.

Where did Tom Young play??

Was at the game, and the highlights from the pies would have been

Reed - Classy player.. got the ball in good spots and used it well.
Young - Got heaps of it across half back
Hunter - Probably got 3-4 holding the ball decisions from about 8 tackles id say, kicked 2 goals as well.
