Centre square mids we are pretty right for as long as we can tie up JHF. In saying that you can never have enough explosive types (in the Wardlaw mould). I think pick 1/2 is a bit early for Phillipou and I don’t think we’d go after Clark, as we have more pressing needs.

Ideally we’d go tall in this draft but outside of Busslinger I don’t think there is a tall that is worthy to go inside th top 6/8 picks. Cadman, Keeler & Jefferson are all pressing their cases.

Nth need outside based midfielders/distributors and developing talls at either end. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out for us.

Either way I think all 3 of those players will be available at the crows pick.
Very early ATM, but I reckon Norths and WC picks 1 and 2 will be on the trade table.

NM drop back a couple and get Sheezel, WC back to 8/9 and take Cadman and then best available with possibily 3 second round picks (Ginbey, Hotton, Binns)

If I'm West Coast I'm keeping Pick 2. It guarantees them one of Wardlaw or Hewett.

Eagles are bottom 2 for contested possessions and clearances and at Pick 2 they get an elite mid who absolutely suited to addressing this.

Personally, I'd go Hewett, who is not only local (no go-home factor) but exactly what they need. However, it would be hard to overlook Wardlaw if A) Fletcher nominates for the open draft or B) North take a tall. He's also a midfield beast. Either would be great for the Eagles.

I think the risk with Cadman is that he noticeably favours his left foot. I haven't seen enough of him to suggest he doesn't have a right, but I'd be concerned using a high first-rounder on him. Again, this is just personal preference, but I have Jefferson ahead of him by some way now. Jefferson hasn't put a foot wrong. I'm a big fan.

I absolutely loved his game v Vic Metro. BOG for mine. He's a gun.

Outside of Ashcroft (Wardlaw hasn't played a lot of the U18s) I'd throw a blanket over Hewett, Clark, Busslinger and Sheezel. Maybe Tsatis, but I'd need to see a bit more.

There might be a 'Magnificent 7' this year and any team would be happy with any of them. Does it matter the order? I'm a great believer that you use the pick to get the guy you want around that mark (Sydney do this really well). EG Freo took Amiss at 6, which was a bit of a reach, but he was the guy they wanted. Local - tall - forward. Eagles should just take the bloke they need and want at 2 - it's not even that big of a reach, and they'll be happy down the track when there are no rumours of him going home. As someone who sat through 4 years of the Adam Cerra crap, trust me.

I also think people have underrated his game against Vic C. I think he demonstrated that defensively, he's the best mid in the pool for mine.
