Victorian Covid Outbreak 2021

IMO, it either had to one or the other. No Aus Open, no travellers, no Hollywood A-Listers - no one.

Or....get ******* quarantine right FFS!!! Let as many people in as you want, but make sure that when they leave quarantine, they don't have the virus! Make sure that anyone that works there, does not leave with the virus!!!

That's what quarantine is.

Honestly, the worst thing about it is that we f’ed it once. Then f’ed it again!!!

It's just unbelievable.
Yes, you can look at it and say we ****ed it up, but the experiences globally are the same. Delta strain will go down in history as a virus that simply could not be beaten in a traditional sense.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but we completely underestimated the Delta strain. As I posted earlier the NSW outbreak wasn't even quarantine related - it was the result of a Bondi limousine driver who transported infected international flight crews

So flight crew weren't quarantined. Exactly my point. We ****ed it up. We let it in.

It's just extraordinary.

And then we complain about lockdowns and restrictions FFS!

Weren't they on their way from the airport to the hotel? Not sure what should have happened other than to not allow any flights into Australia

Perth says hi again.
For the time being. An infected truck driver could easily have spread the virus last week. WA was lucky. Next time, who knows. One thing is certain, if Delta strain leaks into WA experts are predicting dire consequences. Meanwhile WA has all but cut itself off from the world.

So you're surprised that a guy driving a bus caught the virus from an infected passenger??? Really?

Or you're surprised that someone caught the virus on a plane from infected people?? WTF??

You don't need to be a ****ing expert to predict that FFS!!

We're living it right now.

So experts are predicting dire consequences if Delta leaks into WA, yet you're criticising them for not letting it leak in??

How many cases emerged where people who had served quarantine, tested negative and been released later tested positive?

By the way, the NSW outbreak was unrelated to quarantine
When that occurred, it should've been subject to investigation and improvements to the system, like what happened every time in Victoria.
Did they test positive after quarantine due to a long incubation period? Did they test positive due to being infected in quarantine? How are these issues solved?

Then for the NSW limo driver - why were infection controls so poor? Surely if he was vaccinated, masked, tested daily, with a 'gold standard' contact tracing the chances of him causing an outbreak leading to tens of thousands of cases is so small it can only be put down to terrible mismanagement? Every day spent lockdown in NSW, Victoria, ACT, and NZ since then is a direct result of this **** up. Who's fault is it?

Meanwhile WA has all but cut itself off from the world.

The only people complaining seem to be those outside of WA.

We're more than happy to have people from SA, Tas and NT btw - Vic and NSW, who have no control of their state, can keep to themselves I guess.

You realise they just hosted the AFL Grand final right?

It's usually hosted in Melbourne, but...well ... we're cut off from the rest of the world so we couldn't host it.

It sounds to me like Perth's version of being cut off from the rest of the world is much cooler than ours.

The finger pointing at WA is just so unbelievably stupid, even for smokescreening, that it barely even warrants discussion.

How anyone can even pretend to swallow the government's spin on this one is beyond me.

It's like I've woken up in some bizarro world where NSW and Vic purposely decided to let the virus in, then changed the definition of 'opening up to the world' to 'months of lockdown'.
And where hosting grand finals with packed stadiums, kids in school, people at work, restaurants are full, people hanging with family etc. is frowned upon.

The only thing they're not doing well enough over there is their Vax numbers. We fell for that over one over here too. Complacency kicks in.

WA having closed borders now has no bearing whatsoever on being able to open up to the world. Their Vax numbers do though.

But they're literally doing exactly what everyone else tried to do - keep COVID out until the population is vax'd. It's just that they've been successful at it - where we all ****ed it up.

They are the envy of the world. There's no way to spin it any other way.

I get that. But "Scommo" is criticised ad nauseum on this forum for the slow rollout of vaccinations due essentially to the same reason - a belief that zero covid was possible and there was no race.

If only the "Huge Expansion Of Our Health System To Fight Coronavirus" promised by Dan Andrews on 30 March 2020 had been legitimate and not puffery!!

We are preparing for the worst – but if Victorians stay at home and protect the health system, won’t need all of this extra capacity, and we’ll save lives.” Daniel Andrews, 1 April 2020
no, scummo caused the slow rollout because they were being classic liberal penny pinching bastards and instead of taking up the front row seat offers we were being given, tried to use junior staff to haggle down the price in competition with other countries sending their actual leader to just buy as much as possible.

no-one was ever aiming for covid zero in the long run, just until the vaccines were rolled out. pretty much the entire delta lockdown could have been avoided if the feds got off their arse and managed the international quarantine like is their responsibility, and didnt make a bigger mess of the vaccine rollout than anything else i can remember in recent aus political history (excluding wars because theyre just generally a mess).

if we had closed the border to nsw immediately when it was obvious they werent taking it seriously because theyre smug bastards, rather than letting trivial things through like furniture deliveries, then we may have avoided the delta lockdown.

think about it, out latest lockdown can pretty much be entirely blamed on 2 furniture removalists breaking the regulations and spreading delta to multiple places on their little jaunt. stop that one stupid bunch of morons, maybe i can see my niece before shes stopped being a baby.

Victoria didn't, but everyone time Sutton warned us about it some people were in here telling us he was fear-mongering.

That was one of the breaches but the other was people that were supposed to be in isolation because they had returned from NSW having visitors over or going shopping. And people wonder why VicGov is now being so strict on people returning from NSW.

Victoria’s Department of Health has been hit with 58 charges over alleged safety failings in the state’s bungled Covid-19 hotel quarantine program.
Among the most serious charges laid against the Department of Health by WorkSafe on Wednesday were 17 alleged breaches of of failing to provide and maintain a working environment that was safe and without risks to health for its employees.

The department is also facing claims of a further 41 breaches for failing to ensure guests, and others who were not employees, were not exposed to risks to their health and safety arising from its conduct.
The department could be hit with up to $1.64m in fines per charge — a total of $95.1m if found guilty of all charges.

so one government dept charging another, seems a bit stupid if there fines . Same pants different pocket.
Why arent people charged?Directors of private companies are usually charged. Why not the premier as he is ultimately responsible?

Dan could put a muzzle on his ministers, and public servants. And he was able to turn a Judicial Inquiry into an expensive jokefest. But he couldn't stop WorkSafe. Watch this space!

A new person may come in and ask for charges to be withdrawn
I reckon any attempt by Dan, his PPO, and fans to interfere with the WorkSafe prosecution will not go down well, and will undermine and jeopardise the independence of the authority and other cases it is prosecuting

What are the charges?

What do they relate to specifically?

And doesn't it state that the Department if Health is responsible for quarantine? so Dan will dodge it again? Cause they didn't already stick it to the Health Minister over quarantine?

I read that, but it doesn't make sense to me.

I see the list of charges, but I don't really get what they're referring to.
