Victorian Covid Outbreak 2021

I'm not surprised at all by the numbers.

I'm surprised that people are surprised!

This is why lockdowns are necessary. This is why people talking about opening everything up and 'learning to live with it' are off their nut.

Here, and in NSW, cases have been in the 1000s with lockdown. Imagine without it FFS!!

Cases will continue to rise as restrictions are eased. What did people expect??

Learning to live with it is what the easing of restrictions is all about. Steps & stairs or the easing stops.
The concept of a freedom day is a placebo.

Sydney cases are falling rapidly despite loosening restrictions and lack of enforcement. We should all take a lot of comfort from this, it shows that the exponential claims fostered by 'anlaysts' and 'modelers' are completely off base. They were predicting 10,000 cases and 100,000 daily cases before the end of the year. Absolute lunatics and more example that we should open up faster and never go back. Every mud sucking, bottom feeding advisor or analyst who made a quick buck selling doomsday stories should be wrapped up for misleading and deceptive conduct.

What loosening restrictions? They’re still in lockdown.

Andrew’s won’t go anywhere. The Labor left are in the ascendancy and they certainly won’t hand over to a right faction leader in the minority like Merlino. He’ll easily win the next election given the state of the LNP and then you can look forward to Allen being the successor prior to the next election. Hope by then someone has taken hold of the Libs and there’s new, coherent and structured leadership that can hold the government to account.

The WorkSafe action is listed for October 22, it may cause Dan to consider going. May not too.

All the Liberal's had to do was agree with Lockdowns. Lockdowns always have been correct, and the only way to handle this.

By rolling with the nonsense that Dictator Dan is locking us up and we should just open up and get on with it, they ****ed themselves.
It was stupid at the time, but even more stupid in hindsight.

??

Sydney have been locked down for months!

Like us, their easing of restrictions is based on targets. Our numbers will drop too once more people are vax'd.

I think contrary to the guff you posted, these numbers prove that the 'doomsayers' were absolutely correct.

Are you sure you're not Jenna Abrams??

The WorkSafe action is listed for October 22, it may cause Dan to consider going. May not too.
He survived the Hotel Quarantine Inquiry, a WorkSafe investigation isn’t going to phase him.

I think you also need to contextualise how long it’s going to take for any substantiation of OHS contraventions to take place. I would be shocked if anything was found before next November and it’ll be explained away as having been dealt with by splitting the Health Department from Families and Housing anyway. The responsible Minister and Secretary have been sacked. Any which way you look at it you’re going to really struggle to penetrate the broader cabinet with responsibility under WorkSafe legislation.

Who knew Lockdown 6 would be a 120 day lockdown? It was meant to be a seven day lockdown in response to 8 cases.

The animosity towards Dan is because Melburnians are over him and the whole COVID saga. Call it lockdown-fatigue; PTSD, or whatever. I have never known Melburnians as a collective to be so despondent. I guess 240 days in Lockdown since March 2020 will do that. Yet the majority of us have been continued to be compliant and done what Dan told us to do, even when he has lied and lectured us.

There is no limitation on this prosecution. I was wrong to describe it as inquiry & you are wrong to call it an investigation.

You are not alone to believe it may be a very expensive exercise:
'In a classic Gilbert and Sullivan-style tragedy one arm of the Victorian government is suing another arm for up to $95 million over the hotel quarantine disaster.
The legal fees will be enormous. No office bearers were involved in the writs so it’s like suing the gun rather than the person who pulled the trigger.'

Man, you should have seen us last global pandemic!

Oh wait...

Coate inquiry was complete BS where Andrews himself set the terms of reference.
This hearing will be under oath and "I cannot remember" and "I don't recall" will not be an acceptable excuse.

The current Act was crafted by Steve Bracks to sheet responsibility to those in control, in the way you describe. IF this case does not hold the management structure at fault, all of Bracks work will be for nought & it will become the legal precedent that will render will the legislation useless.

Are you aware that WorkSafe breached its own Act & it took action from the DPP to hold WorkSafe to account.

Irrespective of whether the investigation has progressed to prosecution, which I take your point it has, it won’t be finalised by the election. A brief glance at the WorkSafe website indicates they’re getting convictions in cases related to contraventions of OHS in early 2019.

My mother told me of the family leaving the city for the bush at the years after WW1. The Great Depression was followed by WW2 and food rationing.

But that’s just it, Minister’s and Cabinet aren’t part of the management structure of a Department. That constitutes the Secretary and Deputy Secretaries. A Minister is answerable to the electorate in respect of policies but it is a Department who implements those policies.

At what point does the prosecution start to bite?
I can see the responsibility of individuals being recommended for prosecution AFTER the initial case has run its course.
How that plays out in the political landscape will be an issue for the electors, the uncommitted vote.

What loosening restrictions? They’re still in lockdown.
I have numerous colleagues in Sydney and none are living a 'lockdown' life, government restrictions now allow vaccinated people t gather in parks etc and this isn't being policed anywhere near as heavily as in Victorian meaning that everyone, vaccinated or not, is gather in parks. People are also socialising at beaches, having BBQ's, meeting colleagues for coffee at takeaway places. They are socialising constantly and yet cases are going DOWN.

That is the most backwards thinking - knot inducing logic i've ever seen. Just admit the projections were wrong.

I was at a local park on the weekend, it was packed, not a police officer in sight.

So are people here. they have been for months. That's the problem!

Regarding case numbers coming down, this has happened everywhere overseas as Vax numbers increase too.

What a strange way to look at things.

It's very simple what happened.

Delta is hard to contain, and the only way is to lock down hard. We didn't do that.

Perth have done it. Tassie has done it. SA has done it. So to say it can't be done, it's simply incorrect. Factually incorrect.

WA, two roads in and out. return internationals capped at 250.

Tassie, there's a great bloody big body of water in between them and the mainland and as far as I'm aware, they don't take international people back.

SA, has the Nullabor and the Stuart Hwy to the west and north, plenty of roads to the east which seem to have been managed pretty well. Maybe taking 250 internationals if any.

Victoria, NSW and Qld, dozens if not 100s of border crossings between them and NSW were for most of this pandemic taking 50% of all international arrivals
