No, because injuries are part of the problem.

Nobody deserves to get into the team unless they consistently perform at a high level. Today, Roughead didn't play well enough to get in our current side, and he shouldn't be selected on reputation.
that probably says more about how Campbell's going and that Boyd would be in ahead of him that it does about his ability to consistently produce at the level.

Agree its a pity he gets a lot of niggles but is pretty valiant with them on the whole.

This guy is an afl quality ruck utility and shows it on a consistent basis for mine

I dunno it was a floater that hit a port player on the ****, Boyd wasnt gonna get there. Agree he does get marked a bit tougher than most though.
Thought the same until I watched the replay, it was into the space in front. Boyd would've got there comfortably if he wasn't held before Hrovat even started kicking.
i'm not all that worried by his kicking, although it is pretty sloppy. It's that he starts in on a lot of clearances and just isn't showing anything in there. For a tall team we needed to be tougher on the ground today. Him figuring out stoppages is the key to his career. He should get there but it's taking a while
He's trying to play more outside and it's confusing his natural game, he was still quite prolific and our only 4 quarter performer.

That was a bit like daylight robbery. But I'll take it.

Balance on the ground today looked bad, many slow tall players in too many positions.

Roberts had a terrible game. Won just a single one-on-one contest from what I saw, lost many more.

Roughead got going a bit, certainly looked a class above out there.

Minson was OK, but didn't impress enough to break into the AFL team for mine. I really disliked one ruck contest when he just gave up and didn't even attempt to raise his arms above his shoulders. Did a nice pass from a ground ball gather late in the game though and kicked a nice clutch goal also.

Boyd continued to develop well. Don't mind him playing at VFL level for now, he's getting good experience and more importantly confidence by doing so. Will be pushing hard for senior selection though with 5 majors today.

Hrovat foot skills continue to let him down, although he moves really well around the packs. Honeychurch looked far better today.

Dale and Webb are head and shoulders in front of Hamilton in terms of their footy smarts. Both had good games today, Dale very impressive with his burst play from a contest.

he was prolific at getting the ball in cheeky link ups. This is a pretty good skill i saw working for him before he got dropped. Just really hope he learns to work out a clearance at some stage

You got to laugh. Every player miskicked the ball and struggled with Port's pressure, most noticeably Goodes, Smith and Hamilton who continually turned it over by handvas well as by foot. But Hrovat is the one that's focused on because he stuffed up one chip kick at the end of the game, the last kick was fine but Boyd was held out of the contest which he rightly got the free for.

This is BigFooty where you're only as good as your second last kick.

Yeah I'm not going to complain about a player who helped link up play in a game in which we struggled to spread.
Is normally pretty adept at clearances but seems he's under instructions to get it on the outside.

"Hrovat's dispoal has gone to shit"
Yeah didn't seem like that when he burst away and kicked one from 55 on the run but people seem to have forgotten that.

Or maybe I said that based on what I've seen from him all year?

I rate the kid but his skills have been extremely sloppy this year. Like I said in the post that you took that quote from, that you've happily left out, I know he has it in him to use the ball very well because we've seen it before but to say his ball use has been anything but poor overall (yes he still hits some lovely passes, as any player who is labelled an AFL player does) would be wrong IMO. Needs to get a bit of composure and hit some targets in the lower level before he has any hope of doing it under a hell of a lot more pressure.

Good to see he's still working hard and pushing for his spot back though.

Roughead cost us just as much by dropping a mark he should have taken every time.
There is going to come a time when people are going to see that he is no good. Highly overated as a player, Don't know how he is the vice captain. Will surely be listed with Roberts and Cordy in Ports best

Disagree. All three read the unfolding play well.

Way too tall and dominated by Port in the possession, i thought
Goodes was pivotal in gaining the win as he had some good
moments which it must be said were a rarity on the day. Gary
Ayres looking like the old woman from 101 dalmations had the
better day as a coach. Tom Boyd kicked five, but you would
expect him to playing on back flanker sized defenders. It was
good to win, but the young players are feeling the pinch and
looked spent. Not sure on Darcy McPherson a few heads up
moments of vision, but is very small.

Bailey Dale...

I like this boy, at first glance he looks like the type you would see in a slick brown suit sporting a fedora, hanging off the rails of a Lincoln and waving a tommy gun with a trunk full of bootleg alcohol. I'm sure "baby face" would be the whispers abounds.

But on second glance...

next Brad Jonhnson?

This is BigFooty where you're only as good as your second last kick.

Hrovat had two I50 kicks to ice the game, in space in the last few minutes and stuffed both. A good player would have nailed both, an average player one, an average VFL player might have missed both.

For the moment, Hrovat is where he belongs.

What is wrong with the surface it is awful?
The players I really watched.
Tom Boyd. Excellent
Fletcher ordinary, looked slow
Goodes. Our best when it counted
Minno average, good left foot kick late
Dale ok
Roughead awful
Hrovat average, disposal poor
Smith poor
Webb poor
Z cordy quiet
A cordy. Awful
Honey not terrible but not great
Darcy. Couple of nice touches but slow
