WA Watch - Who you'll see come draft day

I saw a brief mention by chrsco, but has anyone else been keeping an eye on Josh Pullman from Swan Districts? I have seen him named in their League side most weeks but haven't heard a lot about how he's going.

I used to play with him up in the North West for the mighty Dampier Sharks (of Dean Cox fame) in the under 14s. He was a Karratha boy but the Karratha Falcons turned their noses up at him and told him he wouldn't get a game in their side, so he came out and played for Dampier. He proceeded to destroy the competition and make the Falcons coach look like a fool. Great stuff. He left town for Perth halfway through the season when he was 14 (I'm pretty sure it was 14) and still won the association best and fairest award comfortably!

Is he any chance to get drafted or rookie listed? He might be 19 this year, not sure, but if he's getting picked for Swans ahead of Tony Notte then surely that counts for something.

Lewis Fasolo not being picked for Under 18 State footy is an outright joke/mistake by the selection panel, coaches etc.

If not dominating games of footy he is at the very least playing his important role and I was shocked at his exclusion.

2 30 + possesion games and 2 BOG's since the squad has been announced has just re affirmed his class and I wouldnt be surprised if he attracted interest of some kind prior to and on draft day. Thoughts ?

graeme matson picked up 35 posseions (33 kicks, 2 handballs) and 1 goal playing off the half back line for east perth colts.

Matson has been in suprerb form for the royals. Quick, Smart footballer with an extremely lethal right boot on him.

Has all the qualities to be an AFL prospect, I'm not sure if any are too keen, but they should be.

J. Fiegert & B. Warner both good players as well as M. Mather
all made state 18's
Warner's the captain of Perth Colts this year as well
doesn't stand out as much as some but beats his opponent consistently

richardson from claremont HAS to go dennis lane will maybe be a rookie..no1 seems to want him instead they take a player with much less talent in jarran jaacky cockie is a poss

brayden hill from carine....guy is a gun does it all plays tall hard running defender sets up alot of play from half back has also been known to kick goals whilst running off half back

Hayden French from Hamersly hawks should be a shoe in for a rookie spot this yr. Tall key forward who plays small as to avoid larger defenders. Can tear lowly ranked opposition defences apart with his strong physical presense up forward. Known to kick bags of goals but yet attitude problems hold him back. Been subjected to various omittions from teams due to this.

Collica is related to Michael Collica (hawks and WCE player) hes a cousin and will be drafted by eagles in 09 supposibly.

C.Garlett (11) can be drafted this year and is an AIS scholar who was in the top 3 players for WA in the under 15's similar to M.Walters.

WA may have 30 + kids drafted this season its a strong bunch. They should have 6 of the top 10 and about half of the top 30.

I've heard this several times now and I don't know what the deal is. Why are the Eagles going to pick him up? Is it just that we've expressed an interest? Because that's hardly any kind of guarantee.

I know you have said may, but 30 would be half the draft.

WA dominated the champs last year and only 15 WA players were drafted with 5 or 6 not from the u18 team. WA look likely to be the best team again, but i couldn't see 30 going, that would be the whole u18 best 22 plus some outside the team.

Even if they really dominate, 20 would be heaps.

whilst richardson is very very good at wafl level, he is small and not overly fast, if u r small and in the afl u need a few tricks up ur sleeve and i dont see him having any of these

whereas someone like dennis-lane is incredibly quick
u either have to be:
A) a very very rounded football and good at everything
B) a natural athlete

i mean look cale hooker got picked up last year without playing a league game for the sharks...he is a ruckmens height and ran the 20m in about 2.9sec which is very fast for someone that height.

in the afl hard work alone wont get u in, u need a few big things going for u

The WA team is much more dominate this year than last year whilst the other power states/teams are significantly weaker.

Well not sure how much weaker the SA team are this year from last year but their pretty shithouse this year.

Well for every Joe Kreuger or Tom Riesbirth (sp?) out there, you have Sammie Mitchell and Tarryn Lockyer.

Size is over-rated.

shane bendotti from the southeners looks a great prospect all though i cant see the commitment to be all there

he'd much rather be out in a paddock picking a spud then running around on the g with 60 000+

Yarran sounds like an exciting prospect, as do many of the others. It seems like any pick in the top 10 will produce a quality youngster, just depends who.

I will very suprised if Collica gets drafted. Granted a talented young footballer but he is extremely small. The best small in WA at this age level is Neates and he will also find it very hard to be drafted as he is also vey small.

Walters is small but carries a lot of tricks and has a bit more potential in the growth department. Sunny can definately make it. Garls has talent to burn but must watch his weight.

At the 15's Neates was WA's best small(and from memory it was him and Beswick who WA rated as their best for the entire carnival) and both Walters and Garlett had good but not great carnivals. Eyecatching enough for All Australian but ranked around 5 and 6 by the WA team.

Ok, have seen Neates, Beswick, Sun Sun (Walters) and Collica all play in the 16's national carnival last year and here are my thoughts:

Neates: v. quick, a clever small forward (similiar to phil matera) but can also play thru the midfield. However a bit small. He is taking a year off this year from footy to focus on studying/ school i presume.

Beswick: strong, not overly quick, good tackler/ reader of the play, not the best skills but not the worst either.

Sun Sun: elusive, agile, a natural footballer and moves like hes rolling on wheels (both sideways and forward) i.e very smooth, great skills however dont think he has a right foot? huge talent.

Collica: similiar to Neates except not as heavy/built. finds a fair bit of it but is better overhead than Neates. again a lively small forward.

Dunn, 15's was a long time ago and A LOT of improvement has been made by all players but some moreso than others. Beswick was huge in 15s and hasnt grown much since whereas Neates hasnt grown much either so hes smaller comparatively to kids right now.
