UNTRIED Greater Western Sydney tall Wade Derksen is set to move to a Victorian club after informing the Giants of his intention to seek a trade.

Derksen, who was picked up in the 2022 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, is yet to play a senior game at GWS but is contracted until the end of next season.

Hasn't nominated a club but there are apparently a number of clubs interested, including Melbourne.

Hard to work out where he is from, has played everywhere the last few years, thought he was a Canberra kid. Just had twins to add to another kid and wants to be in Vic for family support, so no suprise trade request. VFL form is really good, we will probably get peanuts for him.

He was actually recruited from Nightcliff Tigers in Darwin, I dont know if he was from there.

Feels like Carlton to me. Wonder if Lewis Young GWS way and Derksen to Carlton would work

Not gonna lie, did not know a Wade Derksen was on a list but am glad I do now. Straight into my top 10 player names to replace Oskar Faulkhead now that he’s delisted.

Hopefully this kid gets drafted this year. No idea if he's any good, but what a name. I haven't been able to say his name without trying with a scottish accent ever since I 1st heard his name.

Does seem to be the sort of move that North should be exploring.
Good upside. Relatively modest money. Not a huge price via trade.
I'd prefer something like this to Darling
Oh I'm sure we will explore it.
But he will have a few clubs after him. That usually rules us out.

How you feel about the Darling thing?
I get the basic principle of adding some experience. Good role models, true pros, makes sense in that way. The pursuit of Parker, Pendlebury etc. And I get the need for some support for Larkey too. Just not sure Darling has anything left to give

Darling is a bit of a train wreck.
I doubt he does much on field.
But when you compare him to pink or teakle he's a big upgrade.
I don't expect much but if it stops our forwards jumping with one arm in the air or running into each other like the 3 stooges it's going to be an improvement.
My concern is even our semi decent forwards like larkey or zurhaar have embedded bad habits from year of shit coaching.
They will be harder to fix than the young guys.

I thought similarly of Gunston, and he proved me wrong this year. Perhaps the same will happen with Darling.
Interesting what happens with Comben. Back or Forward? Reserve ruck becomes a question too

I want Darling to tackle hard and often in our forward 50, and run relentlessly into whatever space Larkey isn't, and if he can do those two things well, players like Curtis and Duursma will start to look bonafide elite.
