WAFL website listing solely Connor West as our best.

Can anyone from the game confirm or deny? There's been zero media coverage on the game so far.

Bummed I couldn't make it, was initially going to but something came up late.
The Worst had Clark and Culley in the best.

West Coast midfielder Greg Clark has continued to bang on selectors’ doors with another strong performance at WAFL level.

Clark was one of two AFL emergencies to feature in the club’s final practice match on Saturday, alongside key defender Harry Edwards, while round two debutant Elijah Hewett and second-year utility Brady Hough were held over.

If Hewett is selected as the tactical sub against Fremantle on Sunday, it will be the first unchanged 23 for West Coast since the only western derby in 2020 - more than two and a half years ago.

The Optus Stadium clash is expected to be a sell-out, with the first edition of 2023 a Dockers’ home game.

Coach Adam Simpson watched on at Leederville Oval as the WAFL Eagles - boasting 14 AFL-listed players - ended their three-game preseason undefeated, claiming a 34-point win over a depleted Subiaco, 15.14 (104) to 11.4 (70).

Newly-appointed WAFL captain Jackson Nelson said Clark’s pre-season form warranted an AFL call-up.

“He’s been awesome. He’s worked really hard. He’s obviously lost some weight and he’s playing his role,” Nelson told The West Australian.

“He’s putting pressure up on the guys in the AFL side, which is what you need to do down at WAFL level.

“If you’re not putting pressure on, you’re not putting your hand up. I’m sure his name has been thrown around for selection.”

Clark played predominantly on the wing against his former side, with a strong contested grab and set-shot goal putting the exclamation mark on his push for selection.

Exciting mid-season recruit Jai Culley brushed off a shoulder concern from last week’s practice match to continue his own campaign, playing all four quarters on-ball and throwing his body into the contest.

Midfielders Xavier O’Neill and Connor West were also among the Eagles’ best.

Meanwhile, Edwards played the bulk of the match at full back before switching to the other end and hitting the scoreboard. The 200cm giant did not feature in the ruck.

Draftee Harry Barnett took on the No.1 duties, at times up against ex-Docker Zac Clarke, but the raw talent appears a far way off making his debut.

It comes as the Eagles are navigating their way through depleted ruck stocks, with superstar Nic Naitanui sidelined until at least mid-season with an Achilles issue while developing tall Callum Jamieson will be out for 1-2 weeks with an ankle injury.

Speedster Jack Petruccelle hit the scoreboard on multiple occasions, while Isiah Winder was rewarded for his offensive efforts with a goal. Meanwhile, defender Rhett Bazzo increased his minutes to three quarters in his second game back.

The Eagles were also boosted by the return of utility Josh Rotham, who played out the game in defence with an arm guard. It was Rotham’s first game back after suffering a fractured arm in the pre-season clash with Adelaide.

Rookie forward Tyrell Dewar was the only concern for the Eagles, unable to finish the match with a calf injury. Wingman Luke Edwards, midfielder Zane Trew and defender Luke Foley also featured.

The WAFL Eagles will be without Foley for their season-opener against South Fremantle as he serves a one-match suspension (striking) from last week.

Clark to put pressure on Gaffs spot? Made the emergencies this week so must be close.

Good to have a handful of players pushing for selection.
At the very least he seems an obvious replacement for Chesser if he has another quiet game. Has been named as an emergency every week this season and is banging down the door with his WAFL form.

Thought XON, Petch & Trew were pretty good.
Nice to hear, big years for all three of those players with all out of contract.

Trew in particular - I was at the practice match last week and he was one who impressed me too. Wasn’t necessarily our best player but he was the one who surprised me the most in terms of where I thought he was at compared to how he played. Hope he breaks into the seniors at some point this year.

I unrealistically expected Barnett to already be our #2 ruck. Going to need some development as all young rucks do. We are definitely going to be struggling if Bailey goes down.

Yeah pretty disappointing considering it could end up costing us some games if Bailey goes down and our main ruck is Jake waterman😂

Petch was quite regularly standing up in and sometimes breaking through tackles when he played last year. I think core strength wise he is easily ready to play midfield. It's just his hamstrings that have been letting him down and not allowing him to get a decent run at it to show fully what he is capable of. I think he has all the tools there to be a very good footballer for us.

Poor Beagles…were looking good to start the new WAFL season, now they’ll probably be lucky to field six afl players for round 1 thanks to the derby carnage!!

slight repeat of what I posted in the injury thread, but yeah, a non-depleted Beagles feels almost as crucial to our development as what's going on in the AFL side this year. Getting absolutely smashed with 2 ammos named either side of you on each line won't teach functional footy/be good for confidence or morale. We want centre square combos of all AFL listed players for instance, to learn how to actually function together and how each other plays going forward.

we'll be able to refill the AFL side unlike last year but for how long if our surviving players are hammered with no backups. And if I was a West Perth/established WAFL side with finals ambitions and the Beagles only had 6-7 AFL players I'd be absolutely targeting them, making them sore, getting in their heads and aiming for percentage - it's not like they like us.

Players who aren't actually AFL ready like Dewar/JWilliams for instance need to have functional teammates to learn their positions. If the ball is never coming down there and they have to play out of position/way up the ground to get a touch they're missing so much development.

It’s really setting our development back considerably. The standalone arrangement only works if we have a full healthy list, which is clearly not going to happen any time soon
