Yeah I’d say Brisbane would be the most obvious destination if he manages to sort himself out and have a decent season for swans
Would he have to go through the draft again, or could he be picked up in the preseason supplemental period?

I can see us being interested, as we’re a little short of genuine small forwards on our list (in the reserves).

Might depend on whether he was classified as delisted or retired when he left at the end of 2021.

The club never announced anything either way, or even acknowledged he’d left.

McKenna basically quit Essendon and AFL. Did Cameron do the same?

A lot of Lions fans wanted him. We have a thing about collecting brothers.

Well technically anyone who retires also gets delisted. I think the question is whether he maintained his registration - I can't remember if he was on SD's list last year or not.

Not that I think anyone would try and poach a player with huge commitment issues from a club he nominated after a few years out of the AFL system.

Can anyone unlock this for me? Ochre ?

Rob Wiley is banking on West Coast’s WAFL side to become relevant again.

The Eagles endured a dire one-win campaign last season after not getting approval to feature in the competition until Christmas, their AFL affiliate dealing with an unprecedented injury and COVID crisis and recruiting restrictions hitting hard.

Wiley, in his second year in charge of the Eagles WAFL side, says things were looking up for the Eagles they bid to rise from the bottom of the ladder.

“We’re out there to be a really competitive side who wants to win games,” Wiley told The West Australian.

“Certainly last year was a learning curve with COVID and injuries to the AFL side making it a challenge.

“There’s two parts to the WAFL Eagles, yes we rely on the AFL list to be healthy and there’s every indication that will happen this year.

“There’s a lot of good young guys that need to be developed and obviously some will be at WAFL level in that early development, but we also need to improve our WAFL squad which we’ve gone through.

“In the end we need to turn it around and show that West Coast is an important part of the WAFL.”

Former Carlton and Gold Coast forward Jarrod Garlett is back after recently moving back to Perth from Kalgoorlie, while fellow ex-AFL players Jackson Nelson (West Coast) and Alec Waterman (Essendon) are two of the WAFL’s best off-season recruits.

“It’s been a huge coup for the WAFL side to have that experience,” Wiley said.

“Adding those players to the ones we were able to develop last year gives us a bit more depth.

“We’ve also been able to get a few amateur and country footballers down to either re-ignite their WAFL career or have a crack, so we’ve had some really good numbers on the track.”

Ex-Swan Districts player Jack O’Sullivan - a 23-game senior player - has joined from Wickepin while North Beach product Shannon Lucassen is another to keep an eye on with Wiley impressed with his pre-season and recent AFL intraclub display.

“He certainly showed some encouraging signs in that game to suggest that he could certainly succeed at WAFL level,” Wiley said.

The team is yet to lock in a captain with last year’s skipper Zane Sumich and prized recruits Nelson and Waterman among the leading contenders.

A few players have left since last season including former GWS and Carlton forward Jarrod Pickett, Logan Young who has moved to Victoria and Ambrose Ryan who’s playing in the country.

New recruits

Tyler Collins - Belconnen/AFL Canberra

Jarrod Garlett - Kambalda/Goldfields

Shannon Lucassen - North Beach/Perth Football League

Jackson Nelson - West Coast/AFL

Jack O’Sullivan - Wickepin/Upper Great Southern

Ethan Sambo - Mines Rovers/Goldfields

Alec Waterman - Essendon/AFL

Thanks for that. A couple of new names there I hadn’t seen - Collins and Sambo.

I thought when Nelson signed on as a WAFL player they said he’d be captain?

Extended squads named for Saturday's praccy match against Claremont.

14 AFL-listed players named, including Culley, Dewar and Barnett.

Leaves six players not named to play AFL or WAFL - Yeo, Naitanui, JWilliams, Rotham, Bazzo and Baker.

All are pretty obvious exclusions except Baker, who's spent the last couple months not doing much training with an unknown issue. He has been doing more and more each week though which is good. Bazzo obviously still not ready for a full game after missing about a month of training.

Jackson Nelson is there in the back pocket but no Alec Waterman.

Some new faces from the WAFL Eagles on the bench - Tyler Collins, Jack O'Sullivan and Ethan Sambo.

Also some familiar names on the opposition with ex-rookies Anthony Treacy and Callan England and exhibition-game star Zac Mainwaring. Plus another son of an inaugural Eagle in Teia Miles.

Burgiel at chb is so funny

Yes. I was going to comment on that too - bit on the shortish side for a key post, I would have thought. The squad is a few talls short by the looks of it. Bazzo isn't ready yet, but there are not to many others for key defensive posts.

If the 6 players missing, 4 are talls - Naitanui, J Williams, Rotham and Bazzo. That’s a third of the players on our list who could legitimately be called talls
