RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace says opportunity will knock for the Tigers in 2009, with a "decade of opportunity" to kick in from 2011.
"What opportunity that is, no one knows, but, certainly, it will be a time for us when two age brackets (of players) meet," Wallace said.
Wallace yesterday revealed detailed planning relating to Richmond's current and future playing list.
He said successful clubs needed many of their good players in the 22-26 age group.
"That's the age bracket that wins premierships," said Wallace, entering his third year as Tigers coach.
A graphic accompanying his plans suggested the club prediction for this season was a ninth-placed finish.
"A holding pattern," Wallace said of Richmond's current state. "Whether that be ninth, seventh, fifth, 10th, we don't know. We expect improvement, whether that's finals, who knows?"
Wallace and other key Tigers executives yesterday predicted a bright future for the club, with revenue streams improving yearly.
Chief executive Steven Wright said a $1 million profit was expected this year.
Wright said he hoped club debt would be down to $3.5 million by the end of 2007, from $5.2 million in 2004.
With a $7 million redevelopment of Punt Rd to begin soon, Wright said the mood at the club was bright.
"This is a great venue and we want to stay here. We definitely don't want a Lexus Centre-type facility," Wright said.
MATTHEW Richardson says he is ready to take on Carlton in Round 1 on Sunday despite having played only one game in five weeks.
The Richmond forward, who needs 10 goals to reach 700, strained his hamstring in the NAB Cup match against Geelong on February 25.
"I'm feeling really good," Richardson said yesterday.
"I had a small issue in the Geelong game, but that was five weeks by the time we play, and anyone who knows anything about hamstrings knows five weeks for a very minor hamstring is more than enough.
"I've done full training now for a couple of weeks . . . could have played last week if it was a regular-season game."
The Tigers will have Adam Pattison and Trent Knobel doing the ruckwork in the absence of Troy Simmonds (broken ankle). Simmonds is expected to return in Round 3.
Wallace confirmed that promoted rookie Cam Howat would play his first senior game against the Blues.
