Toast Warren Tredrea - Elected to the Port Board (Football discussion only)

Ken Hinkley has the full public support of Warren Tredrea just like every other coach in AFL history has had the full public support of the board up until the day they were sacked.

I say again, politicians must love you.
Your analogy makes no sense.

If anything, that’s you. The politician breaks their election promise and you just say to yourself “no, he’s actually still doing it in the background 😉😉”.

Politicians don’t love people who acknowledge the fact that they are disappointing you.

Yes, so much this. It's so much better to fight from within the tent

But when he became a board member he started saying the coaching is “all good”. So the result of his appointment is one more bum in a seat, and one less prominent critic of Ken Hinkley.
I haven't heard everything he has said, but the things that have been positive towards the coaching area (in general) have always had a hint of "so no excuses" in them

as has been mentioned in here by countless others, he's got a role that prevents certain things being said outside of the boardroom, and there are a few on here that can back up that he's still got ken in his sights, as they have had discussions with him

give him time. if ol' donuts can get a baker's decade, we can expect more than 6 months to wait for results

I have a choice here. I can believe the following things:

1. Tredrea goes on the radio to defend the coaching and turn up the heat on individual players because he actually hates Ken and wants him sacked. Even though his new obligations as a board member might mean he just has to pull some punches, his specific defence of the coaching and attacks on the players are just to lure Ken into a false sense security. Tredrea is going to go bang. You don’t know his mentality bro - when it’s go time Tredders sees red and coaches get sacked. This is verified as FACT because some people on bigfooty said so. When Tredrea (the non-coward) publicly says things, his views are actually the opposite.

OR

2. Tredrea goes on the radio to defend the coaching and turn up the heat on individual players because those are his views now.

Some of you are in such denial. I wish Abernathy was appointed so we could just have another yes man as opposed to a public figure who has “seen the light” about Ken. If anything he’s less likely to be sacked now.

Hes not posting here in good faith. its more like 'You idiots wanted Tredrea on the board and nothings changed, feeling stupid yet?'

Hes always been antagonistic and a big Ken Hinkley Kochsucker.

Saw Warren at the coffee shop. He was shaking his head just like Ollie's dad. Must be an endorsement of Ken - "no you're not getting sacked!"

Tim Ginever is the biggest pussy when it comes to the football club, he's sat on radio for the last 4 years and has never planted his flag into the ground when it comes to Ken and the boys club corruption down at Alberton. The reason for this is he doesnt want to be ostracized by the club because frankly he's and old man who is too frightened to lose the one thing he loves. Everytime he's given the option to say something he diverts to a cliche or some old footy story thats meant to show us his wisdom in regards to all things footy. He needs to grow a set and forget about going off the top turnbuckle with irrelevant issue like selecting Dixon when everyone knows he was spent 15 months ago.

Yeah totally agree

Serious question. Has an individual board member, football manager, skills coach, specialist coach etc that has a media platform (Gary Lyon, Jason Dunstan, Paul Roos, Eddie McGuire, Cam Mooney, Luke Darcy, Matthew Richardson etc etc) called out the coach of the club they WORK for?

I can’t think of any, but after the coach has been moved on they have spoken up at some point at spoken diplomatically and professionally.

It very much makes sense for a board member with a media platform doesn’t shit on their own coach.

The only ones that might say something are the ones outside of the board (think Richmond’s ‘focus on footy’ board takeover group)….and that hasn’t worked…boards rarely get taken over in one foul swoop in footy

Reminder again, there is a reason ‘the full support of the board’ is a meme and a near 100% hit rate of a coach being sacked two weeks later.

Could you please give one example of any point in the history of AFL football where a sitting board member at an AFL club has publicly criticised their club's coach and publicly called for their sacking? Just one will do. I'll wait here.

Tredders publicly defends and supports the current coaching regime now. This is a fact.

This would happen. Once he is in, he no longer can play the role he was playing. We need someone else.

I may check this, but I am sure this was a concern before the election. I’m not sure only whether someone posted warning it would be the case.

And basically this is all I’m trying to point out.

And I have found it. It was quicker than I thought.

Indeed, before the election, people here on this board had warned this would happen. On November 28th, 2023:

Tredrea will absolutely say Ken is the best person for the job at some point this year if he gets elected, as someone (probably Rowie) will be asking that question of him.

Yep, the key isn't what he's saying publicly. It's what we expect of him behind closed doors.

His new position affects what he can do publicly.

If we feel important having a public voice against the current regime, we now need someone else to do it.

Thus, we return to Lockhart Road's question (from September 21st, 2023):

Why only Tredders?

We are stuck in this mistery.

Politicians must love you.

Let's be honest. It's really hard to know when someone is being sincere or BS'ing; specially people we don't know well. The best we can do is guessing.

I think ElectricG [was] being reasonable voicing his concerns. I also think he's wrong about them, but, indeed, Tredrea's public persona on footy radio has changed.

The issue here is EG's reluctance in accepting this was expected and giving Tredrea the benefit of the doubt. This is where I think he's mistaken. [And where he stopped being reasonable.]
