he looked very ordinary. got smashed in numerous 1 on 1's.

i had worries when i heard he didn't even dominate for his scool team a few weeks back.

was nice to see stynes give a speech though. :D

I applaud you for successfully being able to troll so many people Jeff, but there is one thing...

Joke of a club.

stkilda?
1 premiership?
edit: oh, and the most wooden spoons in the league. double that of the nearest club. LOL

Anyhow, it's not Watts I'm criticising it's the shameless exploitation and the fact our game has become that soft people complain about the opposition booing a player.

Let me repeat that because I reckon it's one of the most pathetic indictments I've read on football supporters of late : Collingwood supporters boo'ed a Melbourne player and that's "disgusting"

Now if thinking that is about is pathetic as it gets means I lack intellect - well hand raised. I'm as nutty as a fruit cake!

Jeff you say people are too soft, yet in another thread you took melbourne to task on the fact that Watts was doing some sparring with McLean and bumped his nose and started bleeding. You basically called it Child Abuse.

I think most would agree (as stated in the other thread) that boxing is a common activity at football clubs, yet you said that player x should not box with player y because of age. Now you are saying we are all soft.....

Whats it goin to be jeff?

Three things that remain a constant at this point - death, taxes, and Jeff spending 90% of his time on BF bagging us for anything he can think of, no matter how silly!

But no point challenging him on that, he'll just deny it... ;)

I am criticising the team, the club, the president, the coach, the moronic supporters . . . that put ridiculous pressure and expectations on a kid simply to try and make a few quick bucks.

We can debate whether he was ready until the cows come home but that's somewhat irrelevant. Even IF today was the right time to play him, why put so much pressure and expectation on a kid?

How that's having a shot at the kid has me stuffed.

Talk about precious.

Agree –

The amount of pressure the Melbourne football Club and its member put on Watts was unbelievable and amazing. The club has failed him....

I hope it does not affect his development

what more can you expect from a club so pov they have to flog their home games and beg us for a home game every year. whoring off a kids first game would have come easy

I thought he was absolutely terrible. I accept that I am wrong if you have him for every home game, but tell me have you either been to a game where an MC has introduced an no.1 draft pick. You cannot honestly tell me that Melbourne did not beat up Watts debut throughout the week.
What would you have done?
We've won four of the last 33 games, have attendance problems and we have huge debt levels - do you give up and say we're flat broke and up shit creek so go spend your money on the A-League?
Or would you encourage your supporters to come along and see one of the kids who is expected to be a big part of (hopefully) a successful future?

If you can't win a flag in any given year you may as well be turning the list over and selling hope to your supporter base.

We effectively have that game to boost our coffers we make the announcement early in the week that Jack Watts is playing - anyone who has watched the VFL games he's played would see he deserved his spot - we give him a couple of media interviews and they (the media) go to town on the rest.

Kings of hindsight like Mike Sheahan today insinuating that we Melbourne supporters all expected him to dominate from the get go - the media are a bunch of flogs and you nitwits have swallowed their BS whole.

I think if you have to go to those lengths to get your supporters to come to your games, then the problems with Melbourne supporters (not all but some) is critical. I would have thought the act of naming Watts would have been encouraging enough for Melbourne supporters to get down to the game. Evidently not.
Would I have promoted Watts debut? Of course, but i think that the amount of media attention generated by Melbourne was excessive. Then and again, the Melbourne board knows better than I, and if that is the only way they are going to get numbers through the gate and generate revenue, then good on them.

I'm not sure if the end of your post was directed at me but i never thought Watts was going to be the difference or have a big impact on the game. You have a very promising prospect who needs time to develop. Nor do i necessarily think it was the wrong decision to play him - look at Franklin and Roughead.

Strauchanee - it wasn't directed at you - it just pisses me off the people who knock us for trying to be proactive, knock us for going for handouts as well. Apparently we can do no right.

The baying for the blood of my club irks me - I understand we've continually ****ed up in the past so some criticism is warranted. The same ***** who want us to die don't seem to be aware of the contribution we've made to Australian Football - we founded it and have a proud history. Maybe we do not have a divine right to exist in this competition (nobody does) but a little respect and recognition for these facts wouldn't go astray. The chronic trashing of my club from supporters of clubs who have had similar problems in the past is disgusting.

I think you need to be proactive in the circumstances we are in. We really haven't had any sort of success since the 1960's and for a long time were not competitive. Without delving into hilarious stereotypes - never have we really had a tribal suburban supporter base to grow from like Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon etc. The nomadic status of our football operations exaserabated this. Who was living in the CBD until recently?

Our current board understands these things and is trying to rectify it - by giving a coach unecquivical support in building a team from the ground up with youth. By signing off on a 30 year deal with the city of Casey to hopefully gain some kind of traction and grass roots supporter base.

Look at our club - young President, young CEO, young coach and young players - we are trying to position ourselves as a young, innovative and modern club because it's been well documented we have a chronic lack of identity.

Couldn't agree more slander. Great post.

no offence watts is very overated and i dont think that he will be any were near one of the best from the draft picks. He is good but i just dont think he will have the ability or skill that other people like rich and that have.

Haselby was far better then Pavlich in their first years.

Do you realise that KPP players take time to develop while ready made players like Rich have and immediate impact? You obviously don't have any football knowledge, so i'll cut you some slack.

do you sell home games?

do you get a freebie game from us every year? (how'bout putting us on your jumpers, ingrates?

did you stage the Watts first game like a celeb debut???

Do we sell home games to other locations? No.

Do you conveniently ignore every single iota of fact to do with the Melbourne Football Club which doesn't fit with your aim of trolling us? Yes.

You may wish to re-think your answer :)

What games under Jim Stynes have been relocated to other places? How long has it been since games have been sold to other locations by us in this way?

Maybe Darwin is a possibility, but that hasn't happened yet.

For someone like 'Mr Brown' to talk as though it's happening now is just silly.

Incidentally, Jeff, check a little closer to home when it comes to the selling of home games by your own club - stones, glass houses, yada yada yada...

Who said I had a problem with it?

Just highlighting your ignorance. Again.

Oh well, since you've been so comprehensively hypocritical in your jibes on other occasions...

Such as decrying our apparent lack of success etc. when your own club has barely avoided complete financial meltdown and been skittering along the bottom of the ladder for year after year until recently, claiming you're not chasing us around when you continue, regular as clockwork, to jump on any anti-Melbourne bandwagon going, and when none exists, trying to start one...

I just assumed the same trend would continue Jeff!

No, but 27 wooden spoons is a tradition.

I find it ironic that a fan of a club which has been as relatively unsuccessful as St Kilda, should turn around and seek to make jibes about us based on that exact reason...
