Re: Its official: Jack Watts nominates for draft

Hmmm, first day of the draft camp when players are having their interviews with the clubs.

What's the bet Watts had a chat to Melbourne this morning and gave him the word, and now suddenly this afternoon his definitely going to nominate?

Re: Its official: Jack Watts nominates for draft

I bet he made his mind up based on the Chris Connolly powerpoint presentation, you know the one, worked really well before :)

Nice one. I put this challenge out to all comers:

Create what you think was the exact PPT presentation they gave to Warncock.

Re: Its official: Jack Watts nominates for draft

The Age reported that our decision is down to four; Watts, Naitanui, Rich and Vickery. But I suspect we have 95% made up our mind on Watts and are just waiting for some positive draft camp results to confirm it.

They had Kevin Sheahan on SEN this morning and they mentioned Naitanui breaking Trent Croad's vertical leap records, then he said that he expects Watts to do really on the 20m sprint. He said a usual KP player runs a low 3sec (3.1 or 3.2) 20m, but Watts' is particularly quick and he's expected to run about 2.9sec 20m.

The record is 2.79, so 2.9 is lightning for a KP player

Watts will push that record..

Watts will push that record..

Do you have any reason besides Sheehan's comments to think that?

I'd say his a chance, but all the guys who are at the top of the sprint records, who've run sub 2.9s, are smaller guys. The other one i really want to see the results of for Watts is agility, i've never seen a big guy go through traffic better then him and he has the basketball which would have increased his agility.

Watts looked very agile on the you tube video someone posted. Everyone goes on abut Natias appetite for the cntest once the ball hits the ground imo watts is just as hungry and looks a lot better playing when competing for the ball on the ground.

Watts also has a natural looking and nice long kick on him.

The thing that impressed me most about Watts was his kicking for goal. Once he gets the thing he uses it. If he becomes half the player Reiwoldt is, with his kicking ability you would think he becomes a 50+ goal a year player. He has already shown an ability to kick goals from well beyond the 50. What is also exciting is he went on ball at times for Sandy Dragons and was very good. That flexibility is important at AFL level

It is well stated about his ability to take contested marks, his agility and his speed off the mark. These aspects give you strong hope that he will be very competitive at AFL level. He appears to be able to win the football on the lead, in a contested situation and looks very exciting when it hits the deck. Generaly when players come into the system they are deficient in one or 2 of these areas. He appears to have a well rounded game

He is slight at the moment but lets not forget he is only 17. You would think (hope) he will develop into a big unit after time in the system.

As always no certainties come draft time but he appears to have all the tools to be a very good AFL player. People keep comparing him to Reiwoldt. I have a feeling if everything went 100% the way we hope he could be more a Pavlich type player with the abilty to play in numerous positions.

Re: Its official: Jack Watts nominates for draft

Watts will push that record..

Watts didn't break the record, but he got pretty damn close. There are some unofficial results out from someone who was at DC today. Watts was second in the 20m sprint with a 2.82s, Ash Smith from dandenong was 1st with a 2.80s

That's damn impressive from Watts, 2.9s would've been good but that's unreal.

They've already done the agility and vertical leap tests but no results around as yet.

Just came 2nd in the 20m sprint. :thumbsu:

20m results posted on another forum by someone who was at DC in the morning:

1. #39 Ashley Smith, Dandenong, Defender - 2.80 secs
2. #65 Jack Watts, Sandringham, Tall Forward - 2.82 secs
3. #12 Stephen Hill, West perth, Midfielder - 2.83 secs
4. #75 Nic Naitanui, Swan Districts, Ruck - 2.86 secs
5. #34 Tom Swift, Claremont, Midfielder - 2.89 secs
6. #15 Ryan Schoenmakers, Norwood, Forward - 2.90 secs
7. #3 Sam Blease, Eastern, Midfielder - 2.91 secs
7. #17 Nick Heyne, Gippsland, Forward - 2.91 secs
9. #43 Taylor Hunt, Sandringham, Defender - 2.92 secs
9. #30 Luke Shuey, Oakleigh, Midfielder - 2.92 secs
9. #33 Matthew DeBoer, Claremont, Midfielder - 2.92 secs
12.#74 Tyrone Vickery, Sandringham, Ruck - 2.94 secs
12.#21 Bryce Carroll, Western Jets, Forward - 2.94 secs

Great result for us.

Awesome. Also interesting to note Tom Swift at 5, this kid was locked in for top 10 until he did his knee. Wouldn't mind taking a punt on him at 19. Proven ball magnet and can use it too. According to the 20m sprint he isn't too shabby at accelerating off the mark either.

Swift by name ............

Just heard on SEN, Watts ran a 8.03s for the agility test. A mid 7.9 has been good enough to win it in previous years, so that's pretty impressive as well.

Stephen Hill broke the record (Pearce ran 7.79s in 2004), but not sure exactly what it was.
