AFLs not as 'subtle' as soccer

By that I mean blink at the soccer and you may have missed the only action of the day.

Its a big game (AFL) and probably could work with a 120-150k crowd.

But so long as the people who 'matter' get a seat every year - why would they bother ?

John Cain would be first in that list, although Jeff signed the death warrant

How many of that crowd would have been out in the open 100k?

it was a hell hole in a shit house location.

It's 40 years since Waverley Park first opened when Geelong played Fitzroy on 18th April 1970. I think what's now left of the place was actually built some time after this opening.
Here's a 1970 photo of the place.

Looks like the place is somewhere way out in the sticks, things have changed a lot since then.

After staring at this image for about 15mins, there were some things I couldn't quite figure out. Why the goal posts were on the wrong sides? Why Wellington road was dipping at the wrong end? Why Jacksons road seemed too close to the ground?

Turns out, the photo is incorrectly mirrored. It should look like it does below if taken from above the incomplete Monash Fwy.

I guess the photo was just too old for anyone else to notice :p
