Yes
I dont think Milera is particularly good inside our 50. Best work up and around the wings and behind the ball.
Yes, agree that he's better playing wing/midfield rather than the forward line. Generally has a high disposal efficiency (eg: 89% across 9 disposals vs Eagles). Just currently building fitness after busted ankle in 2020 and busted knee in 2021. I'd be thrilled for the bloke if he got a full preseason into his legs and was in good nick to rip apart 2023. We have some in/under types willing to get the nut (Berry, Keays, Laird etc) but another 1-2 quality ball users in the team for 18-20 games per year is where Milera can play a key role. He has the touch, just needs the fitness.

Looking #strong hopefully we finally see the best of Wayne this season. This is who we got for Danger.

At this time of the year, every AFL player that is healthy looks strong, as they should. They are spending a lot of the summer in the gym.

He showed glimpses last season and I reckon last season was the season he had to have to build for hopefully a big 2023. They gave him some decent game time. He's one of the few that passes nicely into the forward line and also he's creative with the ball in hand. At best we could see him with some time on ball and in the forward line. If he's just cruising, but fit, he'll be a handy wing or half back. Worst case he gets injured again.

Problem is we're seven years in and all we've seen are glimpses.

We can't afford to carry him for a whole season in the hope that he finds form again. If he's not performing, then get Cook or Nankervis into the side instead.

Nankervis looks like he will be a gun in time imo. Cook has some skills but he needs to harden up a bit to get regular games.

Definitely looked like he's lost a yard of pace after injury. Not a player I'm optimistic about but hopefully he will prove me wrong and turn out a good 2023.
I'm now at the stage where I'm treating Milera performing well as a bonus & no longer banking on him to be in our best side.

I think with a good preseason he will be fine, reckon he has still got the pace. Those knee injuries like his take time to mentally get past like an ACL
He has to perform this year, he’s had his year back, now is the time otherwise his career has been a big disappointment, obviously not helped by the injuries.

Absolutely.

After missing out on all of 2020/2021 he had a full preseason at the end of 2021. Played the last 12 games of the year and showed flashes and hopefully that got rid of the rust and gave him confidence in his body.

If he has a full preseason - I would hope he can really bounce back and become a key contributor.

Sadly I believe you guys are right.

I wish you were both wrong, including myself and somehow turns his career around like Fogarty did in 2022.

Just turned 25 a few months back, so he still has potentially best years in front of him. 2023 is going to define his career I feel.

The best hope for Milera is that he has a breakout year which might invite a decent overpriced trade.

If his breakout is good enough to warrant an overpriced trade, why wouldn't we just keep him?
Yep, we need all the bonafide best 22 talent we can get as of right now. Considering as he isn't particularly old, you keep him in that scenario

Hopefully he can get back to his pre-ACL form, IMO he's best off a wing, don't think playing him forward was great to get him involved in the game last year

Feel like the wing would be his best position in an ideal world. He doesn't get exposed as much defensively and allows him to attack higher up the ground. Pre all the injuries, he was one of our best in the time trials for memory too. That said, hard to tell if he can get back to pre injury level or not just yet.
Yeah, he seems a born winger to me. Great delivery, has decent speed, doesn’t need to worry about defending all the time which he sucks at and also gets him into the game more than a half forward.
