From the last 5 ND/RD drafts with 35 selections made (excluding upgrades), only three players were playing in todays team (Hutchings, Nelson, Barrass).

Of the players missing, Sheed is the only other likely regular.

It is also arguable that none have cemented a spot in the best 22.

WC have used 20 ND selections for an average of 8.8 games played pp total and 15 RD selections for an avg of 4.2 games played. It is worth noting that many RD picks would not be eligible without upgrade. Though we did have a high number of injuries in 13/14/15, which resulted in a number of upgrades and temporary inclusions.

If I more reasonably exclude 2016 and include 2011, it doesn't get much better. Of the 2011 ND/RD the only players still on our list are McInnes and Tunbridge, neither are regulars. The combined total avg games played from all 19 ND players (201 games) drafted 2011-2015 is 10.6 games played per player and a total and 2.1 per player per season.

Only 1 player drafted 2011-2013 has played over 50 games and of those taken 2011-2015 15 have left the club. We have whole drafts where it is questionable if any player will be best 22.

Considering WC trading strategy for dubious success (outside of Mitchell and maybe Yeo) and that WC is the oldest side in the comp, something really needs to be done to improve both drafting/development.

I give you Pick 3- Masten. Says it all.

Where do these people come from and how do they become recruiters. Doesn't seem like something you could study for. It's just natural ability to know what makes a quality AFL player and what's best for the future of the club. The ones at the club haven't got a clue. We should sack the whole department immediately.

Now we got that out of the way I'd like to put my hand up and be part of this new movement going forward. Who here on this board would like to join me becoming the new recruiting department.

would Wellingham ,Jetta, Yeo and Redden be included as well as trading has affected potentially a better ND selection ..

A poll on this board would save a lot of money and time watching junior footy and no doubt a better reflection on what is required at the club ....

Mate if the board were recruiters we'd currently have SPP handing it off to Duncan, passing off to Mitch McGovern, who would then be putting it on the chest of Zyrus Manson who would go back and slot his 14th. Imagine.

No, this is simply looking at our selections and development. Interestingly, whilst we have pursued a trade strategy it is arguable that none of those players have achieved a pass mark over their time in the side.

Only Wellingham has had a whole season of good output. Yeo looks to be replacing Wellingham as a B minus good to above average player.

Also worth noting, is that WC have not aggressively tried to improve their draft position in any of these drafts, despite trading picks for players. It seems we would rather hold onto struggling players who have currency, than risk a trade.

You`d probably go better than most of our recruiters ..with little effort ..:D

Development is biggest issue and obviously not getting/adjusted to game plan and then left to rot in WAFL system that lacks good senior leaders to give them the confidence to be any good ....

i tend to agree with you, although players we delist tend not to kick on at any subsequent afl clubs.

St Kilda wanted Brown at one stage. Port were chasing Lycett for a number of seasons. I honestly think we should have traded Darling last year and gotten what we could for McKenzie.

The point being though, we never try and bundle picks to get an upgrade, which teams regularly do. We also never willingly trade out players.

We do part with good picks for sub par players.

The melts on this board after a loss are always quality. Some people really like to grow Te baby out with the bath water.
This isn't a melt, it is a consistent issue.

Even players like Sheed and Duggan who have shown promise are stalling.

At every opportunity we play non-contributors like Hill, Masten and even McKenzie based on seniority.

According to kings, 50% of afl players who play 100 games are picks below 20.

70% of afl players who play 200 games are lower than pick 20.

So really anything outside pick 20, bit of pot luck for good players.

We need more more speed in the midfield, our first pick will be interesting in the next draft.
We need to draft a kpf, inside mid, speedy mid and a small forward.kpf first I think

But only one regular fixture since 2011, Mark Hutchings?

Likewise most of our traded for players have struggled to impact.

By the sounds of this board we're going to need a complete rebuild because we lost one game.

**** me.
No but WC do need an overhaul of their recruiting and development.

Otherwise there may be a big drop in form in the next year or so as we shed players.

Forgetting about todays loss and putting that aside CM9000 your seriously not concerned about our drafting and player development ??????

I'm mainly saying in general, but my point still stands, all these drastic calls aren't necessary for just one loss.
