Are we gonna be doing a fifth round? Technically I still have a list spot but if we don't want to bother that's not an issue.

I think we wind it up after R4 but maybe a discussion around players that didn’t get picked and who teams with picks left might take

North Melbourne takes River Stevens
Fills out the last list spot with the Roos f/s kid, a small pressure forward imo is still a list hole for them, and River Stevens is exactly that.
River Stevens: The father-son tied forward is set to land at North Melbourne via the draft, be that as a late pick in the National Draft or as a rookie addition. The Kangaroos are likely to have three list spots open for the main intake, potentially keeping their last vacancy available for Stevens. The 176cm forward showed plenty of glimpses for the Geelong Falcons this year, including two three-goal, 15-disposal games where he was also able to show his worth as a pressure forward option. He played two games for Vic Country this year for a return of three goals, having no issue at the top level at this year's carnival.

I'll take...

PICK 58 - CARLTON - SAM DAVIDSON

1731401347695.png

This mature ager adds a bit of pace and spark to what's a pretty average forward line outside of their talls IMO.

VFL Tiger Sam Davidson received the 2024 Fothergill-Round-Mitchell medal as the league’s most promising young player at the VFL and VFLW Awards night.

Davidson was outstanding for the Tigers at VFL level this season and was rewarded with the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell medal at the VFL and VFLW Awards night earlier this week. The Fothergill-Round-Mitchell medal is awarded to the most promising player in the Smithy’s VFL aged 24 or under.

In just his first season playing at the level, Davidson became the first VFL Tiger to receive the award, and was also named in the 40-man Team of the Year squad alongside fellow first-year Tiger Lachlan Wilson.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive season at VFL level for the Tigers this season, averaging 14 disposals, three marks and three tackles from his 17 outings. The forward/winger also booted 26 goals to finish the season as the side’s leading goalkicker.

An elite runner and good ball-user, Davidson enjoyed standout performances against Port Melbourne in Round 11 (17 disposals, three marks, six tackles and four goals) and the Northern Bullants in Round 15 (19 disposals, eight marks and six goals) to receive eight and 10 rebel coaches’ MVP votes, respectively.

The rising star finished with 26 votes on the 2024 rebel coaches’ MVP leaderboard, tied with fellow Team of the Year squad member Lachlan Wilson as the most votes from any Tiger at VFL level this season.

eaglevision you're up

Pick 59 Adelaide Crows select:

Zak Johnson

Absolutely delighted to select Johnson this late in the draft and a fantastic example of just how deep it is. I’m genuinely surprised he’s not attracting more interest in phantom drafts across the media. I view him as the best player available and he’d be a great fit for the Crows midfield but also has the ability to play forward and back.

A versatile utility across the ground and possessing an exceptional footy brain, Johnson is capable of breaking lines by using his speed and neat kicking to cause headaches for the opposition. He’s a player you really want to have the ball in hand running through the middle and delivering into the forward line. Averaging 26 disposals and a touch under a goal a game, Johnson is also capable of hitting the scoreboard.

To make the transition to AFL Johnson will need to build his tank with two way running and defensive pressure.

A fantastic leader, Northern captain Johnson capped off a great season by winning the Knights B&F as well as being named in the CTL team of the year.

Monocle you’re up with Gold Coast’s pick.

Pick 60. Bailey McKenzie - 192cm- Forward - Sandringham Dragons.

download-11.jpg

A third tall type that had some real wow games in the CTL.
Sometime you get to see AFL glimpses in a raw kid and there were a couple of games whet Bailey was front and centre.

Two Games in Particular.

23 disposals 13 marks and kicked a lazy 7.
20 disposals 11 marks and kicked 6 - in the Preliminary Final.

Whats does he bring:

Aerial power.
Agility.
Scoreboard damage.
Game time impact.

What he doesn't bring:

Consistency.
Work rate.

Needless to say that if he can find some consistency then he could be quite a player.
The kid has too much upside not to have a team give him a chance.

1Bally1 Essendon are on the clock.

With pick 61 Essedon select Tom Bell.

STRENGTHS:

  • Intercept marking
  • One-on-ones
  • Reading the play
  • Production

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Durability
  • Kick consistency

Despite injury impacting his year, South Fremantle's Tom Bell remains on the draft radar. The key defender held his own at WAFL Colts level and was in top form before his season ended in Round 20 with what looked to be a leg injury. That came after an ankle concern scuppered his preparation for the National Championships.

Bell still managed to break through for a single appearance in state colours, coming into the side after Darcy Petersen went down in game three. His aerial ability is quite strong, as shown by an average 5.2 marks per his 12 WAFL Colts appearances. Arguably his best performance yielded 27 disposals and 11 grabs against East Fremantle in Round 18.

Bell's ability to read the ball in flight and peel off to attack it makes him a capable interceptor. He is also capable of holding his own one-on-one and is hardly beaten in the air. In terms of improvement areas, he can be a touch mistake prone in his ball use by foot, though often distributes the ball that way. Durability will be a slight concern given his injury setbacks this year.

Pick 62. Collingwood

Max Knobel (Fremantle)

206cm rucks don't grown trees, so Pies might cut Freo's lunch to get some more value out of the spuddy deal we did for that Schultz.

Max has had two years of development and will be ready to take the number 1 ruck role in a few years.

couldn't find him on the nominated draft list. Is he only nominating for the rookie draft?

Page 4 deals with this. According to this a player can’t nominate for the rookie draft without nominating for the national draft so Eastcoasteagle can take Knobel. Which means we should take Knobel.

Delisted players from the primary list can skip the national draft and go straight into the PSD, but according to media reports that’s not what Freo intend to do.

Great shot of Temu Harley on page two as well.

What's the point of putting a list of 400 plus players who have nominated on the afl site when they leave certain players out.

Still waiting on whether the Riak Andrew bid will be matched? Knifey Spoony

I'll go in and lock in my next pick either way, as I have two here.

PICK 64 - CARLTON - RIAK ANDREW* (to be confirmed)

1731489106838.png

PICK 65 - CARLTON - ISIAH WINDER

1731489194268.png

Do I think Carlton are in the window? Mmm. I think they believe that. Do I think their depth is strong? Not really. Especially losing Carroll, I think this is an area they need to strengthen, and I also think Winder can contribute forward if needed.

I was an unabashed fan of this guy, and thought we let him go too soon (Geelong incident notwithstanding). He put together an excellent season for Souths and is a good runner and distributor of the ball. I can see him playing multiple roles well, and really shoring up multiple areas of Carlton's list. Going for a few mature age options for them late in the draft is a deliberate choice.

Monocle I believe it's your turn.

Sorry, have not had a moment the last couple of days. I respect the work you have done so I will not match

Pick 66. Gold Coast -Phoenix Hargrave - 181cm - Midfielder - South Adelaide.

Hard arsed, tough as nails, nuggety competitive beast that revels at the coal face.
Very dangerous also in the forward 50.

Doesn't get the love he deserves in the drafting fraternity on Big Footy.
And I don't understand why, as he is a footballers footballer.

Some Club will get a beauty when he gets picked up.

Whats his greatest strength ......... he plays football very well ........ WWF else does he need to do ?

Would absolutely love it if West Coast drafted him, I have been tracking him closely for two years he will make it at AFL.
