Going to disagree here.

He's very much a fringe player whose days are numbered with the likes of Dowling and Taylor coming on.

That's not absolutely true though. Missing Tex, RT and Murray for round one, they are 3 key players in important positions from 2023. Tex and RT went out late in pre season too which definitely impacted on our forward structures early in the season.

Not an excuse, but it was certainly a factor in our poor start.

Murray was recovering from an ACL so we had to adjust (as we did from R 19 last year) as he wasn’t coming back until July this year.

So we had two injuries for Round 1.

We lost to the Gold Coast because we waited until the last qtr to attack, we played so slow.

Geelong we allowed Stewart to run amok after stupidly trying Pedlar on him and then giving up “he’s too good to stop”, until the world beater McEntee showed how it’s done. Plus we played a vanilla midfield Nicks defended.

We lost to Melbourne at home “they are a very good side, we did well to get so close”.

He’s just a flog

No mention of the Freo game which I believe has since been written into medical journals as the cure for insomnia.

He is a coach who is scared of losing badly.

We concentrated on an ultra defensive game plan during pre season, not to make finals, but because he thought hed have to earn his contract extension so he wanted honourable losses if he had to lose. So he prepared the side to lose well rather than win. Now he is safe, he has resorted back to the open all out attacking game plan we had last year. Its no coincidence. But he screwed us out of finals. How does a side that isnt our best 22 from the beginning of the year and had two new players in it play better than a side that had virtually the best side he thought we could put on the park.

Fair, but Tex and RT were two key pillars of our forwardline in 2023 and that changes your structures massively on the eve of round one. One of those two play GC and I think we win, Gollant was absolutely non-existent and Burgess not a heap better. Confidence from a round 1 win can't be underestimated.

Anyway, not excuses for the entire season, we've had Tex for long enough since then to be in a better position than this.

Similar to Murray we had time to adjust our structure over summer with RT out.

Our bigger issue was having Burns as forward coach.

I felt he expected Tex to continue on and threw Himmelberg or Burgess in as the 3rd tall- because that's our structure. Had an opportunity to design a 2 man structure

Rash kicked 3, Ranks 2, Keayes 2... you'd think we won that game...unfortunately that was about it.
