I agree that Scully is hugely important to us, he's a genuine likely superstar who with Trengove, McKenzie, Gysberts, Viney, etc is our hope of a 'super midfield' to finally lead us back to glory. However, I'm not confident of him staying. Whilst the people saying he will stay make the strongest theoretical arguments, I keep hearing all those with supposed 'inside information' keeps saying that he's gone. None of it is anything like concrete of course, but it makes me nervous.

I know there are a lot of rumours flying around, but I have just one fear - what if he has already signed? Maybe we've left our run too late and he can't get out of the contract he has signed. The media scrutiny and the 'chats' from Garry Lyon and Jim Stynes would be very influential. I'm worried it could have been all done over the summer when it was all quiet and now he may well want to stay but won't be able to.

All the hype whether he stays or goes is purely media driven....and the footy public buy into it like sheep.

He has already stated that he hasn't signed or spoken to GWS, so do we still persist in talking about it?

Sheep.

He could only have signed a heads of agreement and if I understand correctly there is nothing preventing him from backing out.

It is not legally binding, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Tom has already stated he hasn't signed anything. I believe him.

As do I.

... It was a response to the person who said 'maybe he has signed but can't back out'

Or wasn't that obvious?

Same here.

Someone mentioned it on one footy show, the impact Scully & Trengove have on our group, they are born winners, and they're only going to get better. Scully is our Judd

Does anyone believe that GWS haven't approached him yet, they would of being approaching players months ago, they're not going to wait til the last minute, I really don't know what to believe, I've prepared for him to leave and if he stays I'll be over the moon. He will be the most damaging midfielder in the league in a couple years time, I hope he remains a demon

Only if he was completely brain dead he would have signed already, his management would have been in his ear telling him to wait till the end of the year because they'll have far more leverage than they do now as Melbourne will be putting offers to him left, right and center in order to keep him.

Do you think we havnt already put our best foot forward?

He wants to find out what GWS have to offer before he makes a call - this makes me nervous because his management would surely have an idea of what he could get.

If we lose Scully the AFL is a joke. The draft is put in place to help teams that have been ****house yet they are going to allow a new team that has already been handed gun players to take one of ours or even another teams young gun.

There should have been a rule saying that GWS and GC could only go for players that have been in the system for at least 4 years....

What the club should/MUST do is call Joe Goodnick up and say that we need his cash. He loves the club and will do it if they approach him the right way. If not Joe then get some other rich person to help out. The club better not be doing nothing and waiting until the end of the year to get their act together.

The way he played on Friday night made me want to cry knowing that he could be gone at the end of the year :(

"He collected 23 possessions and was involved in a poignant third quarter moment where, after kicking a running goal, was swamped by his teammates as the Demons surged towards victory."

Set shot**

Talk about crap journalism! Haha but i hope Dean is right, would be dead set heart broken if tom left :(

I have read that a lot of people would contribute money to help secure Scully at Melbourne. I was also thinking the same thing. so I wrote a letter to the footy club. I emailed it to info@melbournefc.com.au (please let me know if you have a different email address for someone at the club)

It´s not going to make millions but I guess every dollar is another reason to stay. I will let you all know what the outcome is :)

I don't think that's going to get us anywhere. As we climb up the ladder and younger players improve further, we are most likely going to be paying out the maximum salary cap anyway. Just because we tip some money in, doesn't mean we are allowed to pay Scully any more. It still has to be counted in the salary cap. If we were going to be tipping money into the club, I'd rather it went toward better coaching staff, which is exempt from the salary cap. In any case, we may as well find out sooner rather than later whether Scully is primarily motivated by money. We should give our best offer which considers other players and our future salary cap considerations - but no go overboard. There's no use going broke over one player and having nothing left for Trengove and co.

[x] Scully = Gone

Credible inside info acknowledging 'suspect knee injury' was a headline covering the fact Melbourne senior players didn't want to play with someone who was not part of their future. They could only keep him out of the side for so long without creating great amounts of suspicion.

And I'm an optimist :(

So I guess the likes of Brent Moloney, Rivers and Sylvia who all hugged him and celebrated with him at the conclusion of Friday night are the senior players you're referring too?

Seemed like that they really didn't want to play with him

The similarities between the Ablett saga last year and Scully this year would make me nervous as a Dees fan. Ablett denied contact, talks, etc with GC but was able to sign at the first minute after the season.

Difference is Ablett had had success, Scully obviously yet to experience this.

Another issue is that if Scully signed a 5-6 year deal for massive dollars, he would still be in a position to come back to Victoria (or elsewhere) and finish his career off with a a number of years to play.

Of course, his management could be doing a Pendlebury and waiting to see what the upcoming CBA produces in terms of pay rises within and outside the salary cap.

We are all guessing until he signs later in the year with Melbourne, If this hasn't happened by Rds 20 onwards, nerves will be jangling

This is the oldest rumor going around, who is this 'credible source'?

And I suppose Melbourne stopped Scully from training, brought him back through the VFl, feigned payments for treatment all in this elaborate hoax?

As well as forcing Tom to ice his knee after he came off during the Scorpians game?

You don't have to believe me. Just simply stating what I have heard.

I've heard that Scully is going to stay at the club because Bailey gives him $2 to get a sausage in bread from the canteen after every game. You don't have to believe me. Just simply stating what I have heard.

Jesus christ man, you didn't even bother trying to say that you have a 'source' to give your statement credit. Why bother posting that sort of crap. It's not constructive, it doesn't have any sort of backing and just brings everyone down.

Onto other things, did anyone else get up out of their seat and cheer particularly hard when Sculls kicked his goal? I know i did, got my 2nd biggest cheer of the game after Wattsy's big grab.

Tosser. Your inside info is either some drunk bloke you stood next to in the toilets on Friday night or your own hand when you're home alone. Worthless, rubbish post. Proves nothing and simply causes speculation that doesn't need to be there.
