List Mgmt. We Got Him! Beams Trade Discussion (Not the Hype Thread)

It was also reported he was in the $600K range and that the Varcoe deal has hit a pause because the Pies haven't got the cap space.

Yeah very likely back ended I guess. If it's a 400k per year but was increasing as time went on to fit in Clokes ego (oh I mean salary) it would make sense he was lined up for 600k next year. Either way there's a lot more money in it for Connors if it's a 5 yr 4m contract for us.

To be fair would you comment and have your name in that poor excuse for an article? 100% speculation 0% fact/sources. At least when Barrett gets it wrong someone's fed him some info and he hasn't just made it up. Connors will make sure any quotes etc are on his terms.
That article was quite bizarre. It read like fan-fiction haha. But Connors wouldn't know that, Clark would've called asking for a comment for a different angle to the Pies' statement. Deadline arrives and bam, putrid creative writing piece gets published. Surprised Connors didn't bite, even with a one-liner. Gives me the impression things are under control. No need to panic, yet

Yep...contract was @ $450k in 2012 when things were tight at Pie land...talk at the time was he was going to be squeezed out.. Our money will still be there in 12 months....Pies money is guaranteed over the next 12 months...

I might be wrong in my understanding but I believe the player agent makes most of their money in the first year though right? So if we're just talking about Connors motivation it's absolutely there. What it means for Beams is a different convo.

Both conversations are connected....Connors motivation centers around his client without his approval there is no deal...

Collingwood expect every player to jump at the chance to play for the black and white, I am thoroughly enjoying the fact we are hearing of no one putting their hands up
I don't think supporters have any expectation that 'every player will jump at the chance to play for the black and white'. Quite the opposite in fact. Players tend to choose Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney ahead of our club. It's just that we are not accepting pick 5 and 25 for Beams because he is worth so much more. Pick 4 might have given you some leverage because there are four stand out players in this draft.

We are not going anywhere fast over the next few seasons with the playing list at our disposal hence the need to tough it out and get a good deal for Beams or force him to remain at our club. There will be no mediation or whatever else is being suggested between our 2 clubs. Brisbane is now out of the running for Beams. You have kept your young stars and we have kept our second best player, whether or not he wishes to play for our club.

Which is why I think they are both well motivated to get a deal done. If we hit Tues/Weds and there's no progress I expect Connors to act as a circuit breaker somehow. Whether that's in public or private and how I don't know but he'll be working very hard to get this done for Beams. He'll be earning his money this offseason between Beams and Ryder.

This is the piece that doesn't wash to me... If you're not going anywhere fast then pick 5 and 25 is a good (not great or even fair but good) result. What you're saying by demanding established players and what you've said publicly is that you still intend to get in the 8 next year which is why you're demanding ready-mades.

I think the club is overestimating its list like Carlton has been for quite a while and isn't willing to cop its couple of years of pain.

This is the exact predicament we were in a number of years ago and is why we've played 2 finals in 9 years or whatever it is now. It's very hard to halt the descent and when you do you tend to trade/draft to compete, not to win premierships and that's the path the pies are heading down IMO.

From experience, take your whack, rebuild, come back stronger. Will pay off in the long run.

lol at some supporters scheming how they'll get banned from our board as if it's some badge of honour. A few want to go out in a blaze of glory but end up calling us morons. Petulant in the extreme.

I wouldn't mind if it was constructed with a bit of wit and intelligence, but it doesn't seem to be forthcoming.

Think you might be underrating Lever.

Has been mentioned several times as being a potential no 1 pick.

If we use pick 5, he could well be our pick, however I would more than likely expect him to be gone....

Don't want a ban, just want to convey my opinions. Not attacking anybody, just stating what I believe are facts.

Indeed. Subtly is not a strong point for many of them.

So much more...you mean pick 21 minus pick 30 ?...the man doesn't want to be at your club anymore...time to say farewell.

My view on things:

The Friday deadline.
Was set to try and get us to panic and give Collingwoood a "Bumper offer" Aish/Redden + Pick 5 type of deal - Failed
It also gives the Pies more time to convince him to stay, and spin the we've had your best interested at heart Press Realease.

Now they'll field offers from other clubs, Fake (Treloar + pick 19 etc) and Real offers (no reason to suggest Melb won't offer Pick3 + Extras) in another attempt to try and get the Aish/Redden deal.

Beams management will go to both sides and try and gauge how far apart we are. Collingwood will state we're miles apart and we're not in the ball park, He will come to us and we'll say we were a nine pick upgrade (Pick 30-21) off making a deal happen in a complicated 5 team/6 Player trade.

Beams will then decide if it's worth risking to nominate us or bust, fielding other offers or staying. He needs to be a willing participant in any trades. If we choose Brisbane or Bust it will put more pressure on the situation.

Meanwhile we'll be in the Kangas ear about the 3 way trade for Greenwood, which would net them a better pick. The Kangas will be reluctant to move him until they see what picks the Pies will have, to get the best deal for them.

I'm confident we will end up with Beams via the Greenwood trade. The Pies can spin the story without Beams being traded we didn't have the assets to secure Greenwood.
That's not far wrong. I'd say it's a fair strategy though to try to a. Leverage brisbane and b. Bring in other parties. Once his value is tested on the market Aish + 5 may seem suddenly doable to Brisbane if they actually want Beamo.

Been reading and reading... Far out some if the posts!! We've made an offer, take it or don't take it. Our future does not hinge on it.
Dayne has requested to come to us and we've offered him some pretty good coin as he, as an afl player in the current market has that perceived value.
The point our club is making is that the same value (not monitory) is placed on all our players for the future success that IS coming so trading any of them out is robbing peter to pay paul.
I admire Leppas stance and his tweet was not malicious but was to let our clubs supporters know the value placed on our young draftees.
We give creedance to the rumours by posting them and perpetuating them, but social media will do that I spose!
For Dayne and Clay and his family situation I honestly hope the deal can be made, from the footy side if it, I'm not really fussed.
I hope we don't trade any players as well as those two picks but also believe Peter Schwab and Leppa know a hell of a lot more than me re this situation to know they'll make the decision that works best.
The belief Dean Warren has instilled in me and Jodes that this club values Nick highly tells me, the culture being established with the current list is not for sale or trade!
5+25=Dayne or go to the draft and chat again this time next year.
I just hope we don't see a champ like Dayne out of footy for a season because of this!!!
Go lions, big year for us, new jumper and all!!!!!!

Agree Robbo Snr - Beams is just fast forwarding things. Definitely enough to work with in the current list.

And despite Collingwood holding out for a player (either some of the Lions' top end young talent or a more established Best 22 player), they're not going to get it.

I think Collingwood finally realised this too, hence their eventual revised offer of Pick 5, 21 and 25 for Beams.
