We lost to the fourth team on the ladder by one point

We have played the other three teams in the top four and lost all three. These are the facts. The upside is we get to play these three teams again. Hopefully we can win at least two of these games and prove to be a real contender. I think at the moment we are a good team but need to prove this by beating other good teams.

If we don't, we will not finish top 4.

Which I think is a good thing.

Last year we had a free ride for the last 5 or 6 weeks due to having a top 4 position wrapped up which probably made us rest on our laurels a little. This year we are going to have to perform well during this period which hopefully means we hit the finals in some good form.

We have won 7 of our last 9 and these two losses have been by 2 points and 1 point so I don't think the sky is going to fall in just yet.

Here's a test of what we can take away from Friday's game:

If you had the choice of

(A) the game being played as it was with us losing gallantly by a point

OR

(B) Bulldogs playing like Collingwood and Collingwood playing like the Bulldogs. Us getting out to a 41 pt lead but scraping in by 1 point and getting two games ahead of the Pies on the ladder ...

Which would you rather have?

We have a bit to answer for in letting this one get away from us and credit must go to Collingwood for playing well and taking the chances that came their way, but as somebody posted, we have more upside.

I'll take (A).

Er, I'll take B thanks very much. Is there something wrong with preferring a win to a loss? Preferring 3rd to dropping to 5th with a hard run home? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I think you might've missed my point BTVOTD but this topic has been done to death anyway, so let's leave it.

Let's just hope we put Essendon away by 3/4 time this Friday and don't rely on a barnstorming last quarter again. As someone else has pointed out, when the finals come around we won't be allowed back in if we are 5 goals down at 3/4 time. So the pressure has to start from the opening bounce...

...for the rest of the season.
