We were terrible: Scarlett

I was merely replying to someone else saying that geelong get the easiest draw in the afl, was not whineing, just providing the facts which some people it seems like to ignore all too often. Appologies for it getting a little off topic.

The Draw/Home ground debate has been raised and answered on here and main board 50 times in the last 5-6 years.

Every club signs off on the Draw every year.

Collingwood plays 11 home games....just like everyone else.
Where we play opposition teams home games is out of our hands and if they play somewhere they don't want to then their Administration should be questioned not Collingwood Football Club.

I see his point. Collingwood were great, Geelong were awful. Can't believe Geelong created a 40 point turnaround in a qtr (mid 2nd qtr to mid 3rd qtr). Interesting to see what they do when they actually play well. They won't play that sh1t again.

But it's not all one way. Full credit is given to Collingwood for their commitment, performance, run. attack on the ball in both big games Maybe forcing the opposition to play badly.

What it means we are going to have the most interesting finals series for many a long year with 4 really genuine chances.

So which is it. Geelong played awful or we forced them to play that way.

Geelong were awful but created a 40 point turn around. Mmmmmmmm.

Typical carlton nuffy. I suppose carlton have an A-grade midfield too.

Interesting to see what we can do when we actually kick a little straighter (6 posters). See, I can do it too.

Exactly, Geelong questions it and gets told that no matter what happens the draw will not change. So in fact the AFL should be questioned, and we all know that is not going to happen. Not once did I say it was collingwoods fault. Anyway this is the wrong place to discuss it.... moving on for the second time....

I guess Scarlett was just echoing what a lot of cat fans thought. We were terrible except for 20 mins in the 2nd quarter. I thought the Pies were fantastic and were all over us. You are only terrible when the opposition makes you terrible...not because the opposition is hopeless. I thought we were going to get done by 7 goals early in the last but did well to keep it to 4 goals. (perhaps it was the 6 posters that did that). I know the cats are on the downside of this golden era and the Pies appear to be coming into their window of opportunity but it is still only August and September is when the champs are crowned. Good luck and hopefully there are no excuses either way next time around.

I'm sure that people in this forum realise that footballers and coaches say things to the media to help the club... so the coach says that the opposition played better on the night and his team will have to improve.. which is nice and polite. But the club leaves it to Scarlett to deliver what they are really thinking. They didnt want to win as much as Collingwood but when the real game gets going in the finals, Geelong will be 100% committed.

Scarlett has set himself up as an aloof uncompromising sort of player... a rugged individual etc etc.. he can get away with giving out messages that the rest of the club couldnt give out. I think its a fantastic piece of media manipulation. There might be a few of our younger players who will read what he says and get angry or better for the cats, they might even believe what he says...

its all a part of the game.... how to control the media in the leadup to the finals...

as an example, i just watched the malthouse media conference and he used the use of electronic methods to judge goals to give a headline that wasn't about the Pies winning.... as if he thought it was more important than winning...lol...its all a part of the media game

To say that it is geelongs wishlist to play collingwood at the MCG twice instead of having one of them at Skilled is a joke. The AFL do it off their own back because it creates more money for them.... not the club. Geelong get more money by playing at skilled because we own the ground and therefore take a bigger percentage of the profits than if we play at the MCG or anywhere else.

You are incorrect. Geelong along with every other Victorian team request a home game against Collingwood. Geelong request that game to be played at the MCG. A 5 second google search proves it.

THE AFL has snubbed Geelong in the 2008 fixture, with the premier set to be $600,000 out of pocket as a consequence.
There were certainly no favours for the Cats, who had their key requests knocked on the head, with no home games at the MCG to hit hard on the balance sheet. Geelong chief executive Brian Cook admitted he was perplexed at the AFL fixture, which has the Cats playing big drawcard teams Collingwood and Essendon once.

"I don't understand the reasoning," Cook said.

"It is certainly going to cost us a few dollars. As the premiership club, we are disappointed that we don't have the opportunity to play a home game in front of a 50,000-plus crowd."

The Cats requested nine games at Skilled Stadium and two at the MCG for its home games...No home game at the 'G against Collingwood costs the Cats $400,000 on the balance sheet,..."The fact we have lost the Collingwood game will take $400,000 out of our budget, for sure," Cook said.

Should take note from Damien Hardwick on how to act towards a team that has convincingly dismantled you in the most recent game between your sides (just for anyone who caught his short comments on Footy Classified tonight).

Poor old Scarlett, even the majority of his team mates think he is a raging tool.

He's truly an expert in that department, happens most weeks.
I'm a bit perplexed by the reaction to Scarlett's comments. Is it not enough to simply beat (actually flog, as you did) the current "benchmark" team nowadays, but have to demand some gratification from them? I remember getting torched by the Lions during their run and being over the friggin' moon to start beating them, couldn't really give a **** what their players thought about it.
And, as someone said earlier, the guy has just walked off the park from said flogging and had a 1st-hand look at his team's performance and had a mic stuck in his face.

Bringing it back to Scarlett... I haven't watched the reply/recording of the game , but who was he on over the course of the game? I remember him on Dawes for a bit.

Whoever it was, :thumbsu: .

I still have nightmares of Scarlett in finals past, running the ball out of the back 50 with a puffing Rocca in semi-pursuit.

Excuses don't count for much after the GF. The flag is the flag is the flag. The Aints really lost last year because St Nick was playing injured, but no-one remembers that or cares, Geelong got in the record book and that's that.

I think Scarlett thinks he runs the Geelong FC. Now he's said Mackies a guaranteed starter. Didn't know he was on the selection panel. God I hope we dish them out a football lesson just to see the look on Scarletts face would be priceless.

There was a Geelong supporter on ABC's Grandstand today which made me LOL. He called up to say that every player on the Geelong squad was humble and loyal. I missed the next bit because we were too busy laughing, but then he proceeded to almost dissolve in tears at the idea that Geelong could miss the Grand Final, saying they DESERVE to complete the dynasty with another win this year. The panelists basically told him to HTFU :D:thumbsu:

Lord help these deluded nuffies. I'm quietly confident for next Friday and that's coming from a pessimist with his heart broken from 2 GF losses and 2 PF losses in the last decade.

And it's that sense of entitlement that has Bomber and the Crimson Cracker talking utter shite. Let them blether I say! The reek of defeat will be all the more bitter.:thumbsu:

LOL I heard this as well. It was quality. Wasn't sure if he was really crying or just putting it on. But then I remembered he was a Cats supporter and they can't hack losing or their team being challenged by other teams.
