I think Chesser gets a harder view from some around here (including me) because the decision to draft him was so odd. It was the covid year and we had seen very little of the Vic draftees. However, we had seen Matt Johnson be very impressive thoughout the year as we had been playing WA and he looked like a very good prospect. To overlook Johnson for Chesser was just so very odd and Pieman really let himself down there. Classic example of Pieman reaching for someone and not picking the more obvious option - which i think we did well this year.

I should also say judging Chesser based on the above is unfair.

Keen to see how he plays under a new coach but based on his output to date it wouldn't really be a surprise if he doesn't end up making it

Needed to play as a proper mid(AFL or WAFL) and not on the side of the ground we didn't kick to under Simpson.

Pretty difficult to improve your game when the game plan dictates the ball almost never comes to the random patch of grass you are told to guard.
