It's the Dion Prestia syndrome all over again!

I think the performance of these guys has been on song to what we expected.

What we didn't expect is that those future first round picks all might be based on a team that finishes as low as 13th, with some realities where it could get lower. If this team has even a speck of the 2020 dust, it needs to come out now otherwise this could me an absolute disaster. If the floor falls out & we just traded 2 x top 5 & 22 selections, then we have just overpayed by about $2 for every $1 of value. That trade for a team about to rebuild from the bottom 5 could potentially set you back several years. The risk was always there though, I felt the need to get both was reckless, club should have settled for the best one and moved on to other needs or just kept hold. We were always more than a midfielder away last year, we were literally playing at 100 all year and had no gears left to elevate to with finals

Hmmmm not too sure about that. We were literally 2 bad decisions (arc and a defensive blunder) away from winning a final then who knows.
Gross over exaggerating in your post.

the way ppl carry on youd think we recruited 2 polecs. both these guys are elite ball winners that butcher it a bit but do exactly what they are paid to do.

I'm impressed with both of their starts, cannot underestimate the pressure they are under.

my expectation when we got these guys was not that we were trading in 2 guys that are going to "Butcher it a bit". I am not sure if they completely meet that criteria with us either yet, but i certainly didn't think we were getting poor users of the ball

Who knows = bullshit that never happened.

Te way we played in the final was the exact same way we played all year. Dominated for ages, failed to convert, allowed easy goals to keep them in the game, made really poor discipline & football decisions throughout the game, & especially in the final 10 minutes. The Lynch ARC situation should have never happened as Lynch should have just kicked that goal in a normal way & not try to hit the moon. The awful goal square defence which lead to the Lions winning goal was horrendous. No shortage of poor FA & 50's against as well. The way we lost that game in heart-break was the same way we lost to Sydney and many other heart-breaks. The Final was played at that level- which i think is about how good we were. I saw no extra gear in that final than most of our H&A games - so if we had an extra gear, i would have thought we might have pulled it out in a EF. When the Lions met a real top 4 team they got demolished off the park. I think we were about that far off. 2022 was not a very enjoyable season. The way we played and failed to convert chances and handle "playing on the edge" was not a fun watch most of the time.

Like the week after when the Lions annihilated the flag favourites. I love a bigfooty over reaction. I rather enjoyed last year. Every game we were in it with a chance to win. We had some frustrating losses. (I was at the GC loss) but for the most part we were in games and more the competitive. We got smashed around the ball so we went a way to remedy the situation.

I’m not naive enough to think we are going to win it every year as the AFL cycle won’t allow that. But as a form of entertainment if my team is competitive every week with a genuine shot of winning that what more can ask for. Who knows when our next flag will come 2-5-10-15 years? That why you enjoy the ones you do get. These 2 guys were exactly what we need to build the next crack at around so it can possibly fall within that 2-5 year bracket.

Taranto was a number 3 draft pick
He is exactly the type of player we would be targeting with a top 5 pick except we would be needing to wait 3 - 5 years at a minimum before they would have an impact

& that’s with the assumption that we pick up a decent player who works out
Plenty of top end mid prospects never work out anyway
Bump. I would take pick 4 plus all the other picks for them both. Lack of midfield pressure in the last qtr. why load up on players when you are no where near contending.

They are the only reason we were in the game in the first place

Really sick of the media getting into Taranto & Hopper.

Hopper has easily been our best midfielder this year
And Taranto had 33 disposals 16 contested 10 tackles 1 goal assist & 9 score involvements...

It's experienced guys like Vlastuin, Prestia that have been terrible.
