Honestly, Liam looks like the proverbial mid-career player who grew tall, was pushed into the sport because of what might be, was drafted on that potential but deep down he just doesn't have the passion for the game. If I could ask him one question that would be it -- Liam Jones, do you genuinely love the game of football. And if the answer was anything but a deeply passionate YES then that's okay. Not everyone is made to be a professional sportsman regardless of their physical size and potential. BUT, if he did answer yes then you have something to work with. Then you put him into the hands of the best sports psychologists you can find and find what he needs to be motivated to reach that potential.
There's a ton of AFL footballers, as there are in any sport, who are just not passionate (enough) to make it to the elite status that their skills, physical attributes and potential suggests that they should. Perhaps some would argue that they've wasted it but if the mentality just isn't there then the truth is that they never had anything to waste in the first place. It's a harsh reality.
You have to find a way to do what you love in the one lifetime that you have to do it or else it's really not worth living.
