Toast Welcome to Fremantle Neil Erasmus (pick 10 2021 AFL Draft)

Thought he looked really composed and some of his quick hands etc were impressive.

If reports from Mark Duffield that we were even higher on Johnson are true then our midfield depth problems might be solved sooner than we realise
Why would we not have picked him at 10 then

I think given the pre-draft reports, we were really tossing up between Erasmus and Johnson and, given we didnt trade that pick 19 where you can usually extort some club for the pick, I think that makes sense. I think as preseason I went on, they loved the look of Johnsons skills and evasiveness.

If Johnson looks as good or better than Erasmsus then we really are set for the midfield for the next 10 years. I think its a really really good mix of players as well. Serong and Erasmus with inside grunt, AB then in and out link up player like Merrett and Johnson the Mundy clone with outside class who is going to get fed the ball but can get the contested ball if needed. All of them look defensive minded as well and then you add Darcy in...

Hardest part is we are going to have wait another 3 years for all of them to really hit their straps together =(

How would it make sense if we were higher on Johnson but took Erasmus?

(caught up with the subsequent posts. Still would find it an odd opinion to come out of the club once the boys were in training. We have the capacity to be excited about all the draftees)

Yeah, the way I read it, is this.
Club liked both. Erasmus had more “petracca” traits.
We’re stoked Johnson fell through, as he was next on the list.
Once in the door, Johnson impressed and went ahead in the team calculations.

Some important things about Neil Erasmus.

Erasmus is an anagram of masseur (also amusers and assumer).

Neil is an anagram of lien (also line)

Lien means to keep possession of someone else's property.

Neil Erasmus handles the ball like a masseur in traffic, extracting it to the outside and continuously owning his opponent in the process.

5 Brownlows confirmed.

You have too much time on your hands.

Once we had both of them in the door.

The club has a huge wharfy over Johnson, thinking he will be the best player of that draft haul.
I just find that massively disrespectful to Amiss and Erasmus. We don't need to have a club opinion on who might be the best player from that draft.

Also, "the club" I interpret as meaning the coach. If it wasn't the coach, then the coach should be hauling them in for a please explain.

Sounds like some serious connecting of dots going on right here. But I think your picture will come out looking more like a scribble.

There was a goal yesterday where erasmus was standing 5 metres out from goals, the ball fell to his feet and instead of diving on it like 99% of players would, he held his man off the ball while one of our guys swooped in and goaled.

I remember thinking that although the commentators didn't seem to notice, it was undoubtedly intentional and great, smart play, especially from a kid in his first game, standing in the goal square

@ freo media team please include this one in the highlights package

Yep. Switta,'s goal, I think.

There is a reason Hawthorn were looking at Johnson at pick #7

You'll see, he has impressed.

When they say "the club" it would be more a series of non-attributed loose opinions from those inside the club, not a singular official position. Who knows how much consensus there would be, but possibly a bit or less/more. Really it's just Duffield's sources.

I don't think it would or should worry the other two much as they have every opportunity to change those opinions (and really should be focused on doing what they do, rather than comparisons to others anyways).

Much worse than that. They came prepared with a Chant. The horror.

People are getting upset over some school boys chanting up a mate's abilities whilst each of the gameday threads pretty much involves BigFooty watchers hurling abuse about most of the players over and over the full game.....I know which kind of supporting I support more.

The draft position of the players becomes irrelevant the minute they walk in the door.
All draft choices are made on the basis of hunches and assumptions anyway.
On day one they start off on a even keel.
It’s entirely plausible that Matt Johnson will be the best of our 3 players and he may be trending in that direction already.
For example I wonder how long it took the club to realise that Fyfe was going to be better than every single player in the AFL after he arrived in 2010?
