I’m trying to think when we have had a power forward who was a wrecking ball?
Clive maybe, but sometimes it just looked like he started footy at a later age.
After seeing Tabs improve, I don’t think there was any doubt that Treacy has
what it takes.
I just hope we develop him to his strengths, and he gets bigger, improves his
explosive game.

Adam Campbell!

But Treacy also marks and kicks goals.

Treacy's play style reminds me of a mix of Sumich and Troy Wilson, pardon the Wet Toast mentions. Just without Sumich's hook.
Growing up, Sumich was my fave KF at the time.

Met Kiwi at a cousin's wedding reception in WA.

Even got a photo with him.

Was pretty cool to chew the fat with him a bit.

I've always been very impressed with him and think he will be a 40-45 goal forward at his peak at the very least.

I thought he showed a lot as a first year forward - especially one that was taken in the rookie draft and one whose birth month fell in the second half of the year, meaning he played essentially his entire first season as an 18 year old. AND he had compromised preparation leading into joining the AFL due to his top-age draft year being heavily affected by covid (which is important as a key-forward as you finally get the chance to be the big guy).

I think he probably would have gone a lot higher in the draft if he had the opportunity to show his wares at junior level, so it's a big draft steal.

I cannot recall any key-forward with the tackling intensity that he has. Dude's also very smooth biomechanically if you will.

Our recruiting department have absolutely blitzed it with identifying talent outside the early rounds (as well as inside for that matter). Treacy is a credit to them, and he is poised to become a lock in our forward line.

I think it's easier said than done fitting him in. I can't see how Treacy will get a game if Tabs is available.

Devils advocate here, I think Treacy should be played over Amiss

Hear me out before the inevitable downvote.

Few more years in the system, gives Amiss more time to grow into his body in the 2nds and Treacy could be a flight risk if he's not getting games. Get Treacy settled in the AFL team and hopefully phase Tabs out over the next few years to bring in Amiss

Line ball decision at this stage for me and I would like to see both get some decent game opportunities this year. It is a little bit of an issue I have if Fyfe is playing forward but that looks more likely all the time.

Nah we need to get game time into Amiss, his potential is through the roof.

I hear it but I also don't know why we need one or the other. Just play both.

Freddy Amiss Walters
Shultz Treacy Switta

With Tabs, Fyfe, Rucks rotating through looks potent to me. Keep mixing it up via bench and positional rotations. Toughness, speed, height and creativity through the roof.

Goals, goals, goals. We're talking the role of key forward targets here. I know there are a lot of other aspects of forward work that are important but goals talk. If you can only pick two of Tabs, Nev and Cyclone, first pick the ones that fit in best with the structure. If then they don't kick goals give the other one a crack.

Secondary factors:
Amiss - does need body-development time.
Tabs - will never be physically reliable. Even if he can kick more goals in 2023 than Treacy, which of the two will be more of an asset to FFC from 2024 on?
Treacy - has that amazing on-field physical presence. Teams need that. Of the three does he have the most potential to disrupt an oppo defensive unit?

Is it really a 3 horse race between Taberner, Treacy and Amiss, or is Taberner first picked if fit?

That's the first conundrum for me.

The second is:

If Fyfe is playing as a forward, and likely the deepest forward, are Taberner and Fyfe our best KPF combination?

And I'll toss in a third.

Who are our preferred KPFs 2024?

Adelaide Crows were top of the ladder with the best forward line in 2017.
Sure they lost the GF but that was due to the engine room.
We don’t have that problem.
Even in 2013 the Hawks played Franklin, Roughead, Hale, and Gunston.
We won the midfield but lost it with a lack of accuracy and firepower forward.
Tabs is the only tall that could be a liability, if he doesn’t mark the ball.
The others in Jackson, Amiss, Treacy have other tools to stay in the game.
You won’t stop all of them, and some can also play the medium tall role.
We now have depth to cover injury, we could also rotate, rest KP’s to be
Cherry ripe for an assault.
I have no problem playing 3 talls who display a combo of athleticism, power
and speed.

If I am honest, I have never been the biggest Tabs fan, but right now he is definitely the first tall picked picked if fit.

I still think Fyfe will be a multi-positional taller player (Centre Mid to Forward) switching with Jackson as the other multi-positional taller player (Forward to Centre Ruck) when we get going proper.

And by all accounts that leaves 1 other tall forward role within the setup that we like to play.

This is why I don't like Fyfe forward as we have players who should be taking those positions.

Fyfe should be used as an around the ground beast IMO, sometimes inside at centre bounces, sometimes floating around between the flanks

I wish I could agree but I think his body won't take that much beast bashing (self-inflicted and oppo targeted) any more.

If you play Taberner, Treacy and Amiss there is going to be a time when you have a fwd line consisting of:

*Small Jackson Taberner
Amiss Treacy Fyfe

Thats just rediculous.

Even just the four talls plus 2 smalls is waaaaay too big.

You can't really get around this, you can't just always have one on the bench, unless we fully restrict our selves with our rotations, and even then what happens when we get an injury to a non key forward.

We just need to accept that along with Jackson we can only have two key forwards, Taberner, Treacy and Amiss will be battling it out for two spots.

The balance aspect comes in to play with how many mediums we can run along with that, like Fyfe, Corbett or Sturt. But we can't play Taberner, Treacy and Amiss unless one of our ruckmen are injured, it just doesn't work.

Bingo Bango Bungo. Anyone who's scared of playing the three are being a lil simplistic. We've got two nimble kpfs next to Potato Tabs
