I really like that Cockatoo and Dangerfield seem to have built a good relationship. I do have some concern for what Cockatoo will be as a player. If he sticks with Dangerfield he will have a good mentor.

I love how Cocky is already getting in a few centre bounces during games.
Think he'll be a regular in the centre in 2017 & beyond.
J. Selwood, Dangerfield & Cockatoo is a very good centre bounce trio as Cocky (in terms of attributes) is another Danger-type of player, explosive, isn't afraid to go in and get the ball + try to break tackles, tackles hard himself. Now just needs to keep building his tank.

Will take him a few more seasons yet to build that tank, but can see him being more of a part timer in the mid next year for sure.

Whenever I see Cocky player, I just get the feeling that we are seeing something special. My opinion is that he will be end up being our best player in a fews years time and will be on a massive contract with every other team chasing him to trade in.

I personally see a lot of Allen Christensen in him.. and I'm not sure whether that is good or not.

What reminded me most was when he got tackled and called HTB on recently, threw his arms up in the air to suggest he thought he'd done nothing wrong etc.

I remember a number of times AC getting pinged for HTB when he would have avoided it so long as he made enough attempt to dispose.

He has about 10cm of height and 10 kilos of weight on Christensen.

And all the signs are he has the right attitude, which is ultimately what held Christensen back.

It wasn't the attitude that held Christensen back, hell he was an absolute gun every year he played for us. it is the multiple back surgeries that have done him in.

Hopefully its this Saturday night.
The team looks like it is lacking a bit of energy/spark at the moment,Cocky could be the 1 too light the fire.

I'd say it more looks like we're flat because we're not winning convincingly. Plenty of spark and energy around, just watch PFD break out of packs!

I sense Cocky will have a breakout game soon...

The second quarter on Friday was his breakout moment. He doesn't have the tank to do it for 4 quarters but he put the team on his shoulders and dragged us back into the contest. It's just that everyone was too busy with Dangerfield to notice that Cockatoo probably had a bigger second quarter than Danger.

Just putting this out there... In the lead up to this draft we were strongly rumoured to be interested in Jake Lever. We traded with the Crows to get pick 10 which we all know we took Cockatoo with, and Crows received pick 14 and subsequently took Jake Lever.
Right now Jake Lever is arguably better than Cockatoo, I still think Cockatoo will become an elite player - but all things being equal in that draft - could this potentially be a scenario where we will look back on this and rue this trade?

Yes and No

Different players.

At the time of drafting we were in desperate need of some speed.

Lever was the one I was desperate for us to grab at 10 in the lead up to the draft.

When we took Cockatoo over Lever I was initially disappointed.

I think Cockatoo has potential to be great, but also potential to be a flop in that he just stays about as good as he is now without ever really reaching his potential. Lever is a certainty to be great and would trade **** for Lever right now in a heart beat.

Poor decision by Wellsy on this one for mine. FWIW I think Wells has stuffed up our R1 picks in 2012 (Thurlow over Grundy) 2013 (reached for Lang over multiple better options) and 2014 (**** over Lang). We traded our round one picks in 2015 and 2016. Wells is good at finding reasonable players later in the draft (Stewart, Gregson, even Parfitt at 26) but has arguable dropped the ball on round 1 picks, with 'reaches'.

Nah, very different players. Lever is an absolute gun but I'm fine with how Stewart has come in, Kolo will be better with some continuity (not better than Lever though), and if we have an injury then Taylor goes back there.

We needed strong, explosive midfielder/forwards and Cocky is that for us and will be a star with more fitness.

I don't think I've ever been as excited about a pair of young players as I have been with Cocky & Parfitt.

Wells is the most overrated person in the history of the Geelong football Club. There was a reason we had to go out and get all these mature age recruits. Hasn't had a decent draft since 09.

Wells has struggled with first rounders since 2007.

The only one he nailed was Menzel.
Mitch Brown
Billie Smedts
Kersten and Hamling (although we traded our pick 26 for 2 picks in the early 30's)
Thurlow
Lang
Cockatoo

Cockatoo is the most talented of that group by a mile IMO.

He 'reaches' every time (maybe because it worked with Mackie?).

He should not 'reach' anymore, as other clubs now spend more on recruitment and are just as apt as Wells was. It is a bit clearer nowadays who the top talent is, and he should stick to that, rather than surprise and reach for some super bargain ... because it aint happening and has not happened since 2002.

Compromised drafts started in 2010.

Free agency came in 2012.

Yes. There is a reason we get mature aged recruits.

MOD EDIT - Abuse NOT required.

It's been said the recruiters know the top 15 or so.
I'm tipping Geelong told Adelaide they wouldn't take lever, and that's how the deal got done.

They needed him, we didn't. And we still don't.

Since 2009 how many top 10 draft picks have we had?

BTW, Cockatoo is only 20. He is a beast of a tackling machine now. Imagine when he peaks
