Do we think the spoil at half forward that went straight to another Hawk player (not the Hardwick one) and resulted in a goal was deliberate?

If so, it begs the question - why don’t we see more directional spoils to another player’s advantage?

We see them when defenders spoil to the boundary, but rarely to another players advantage? I know it’s easier said than done, but Dear looked like he did it with ease.

He did it 5+ times and you just watch how it when to our advantage each time. I reckon he means it.

During our 3 Peat era, I never saw a team that would slap it, or nudge it to advantage as much as we did. Cyril, Sam and Silk were masters at it.

In the current team, Nash is very good at knocking the ball on to advantage.

Have already seen enough to know that he is too good for the magoos. Keep him in to fast track his development accepting that he will run out of gas and occasionally struggle one on one - I get a sense that the latter will spur him on in lieu of destroying his confidence so see no point in playing him in the VFL

If they have specific things they want him to work on, sometimes the VFL is the place for that. Not now, but maybe later in the season when we have a full list.

As an 18yo key forward two games in with the strengths he has shown ……. if your club picked Calsher up in the first round you’d be pretty happy. Throw in the Wiz, McCabe, Massimo, Gini and Bodie. Take my hat off to the recruiting department as last years haul will go down as a ripper I reckon.

Other small issue is that he over commits on chases. Dale last week and Bonner today were able to cut inside too easily on him

if we’re worried about a player trying too hard - that’s a pretty good sign tbh that the effort is there and the over-commital is what we are noticing!

Agree. We play him until either he fatigues or his confidence drops to the point he isn't competing in the air. Box Hill only if his form drops away dramatically.

Whether that's 2, 5 or 15 games this year it will be invaluable for his long-term development.

Only difference to senior players is I don't want him carrying any knock or small ailment into games - keep him fit and in form, giving 100% and when he can't do that, give him a rest.

It's obvious to me that Calsher is on a winning streak that could rival Bill Goldberg. As such, I suggest he gets interviewed after every game but all he says is "Who's next?" with a snarl.

I'm surprised I haven't been hired by the AFL yet as an ideas man.

I was worried when we didn’t pick up Caddy but we got a very talented forward at pick 56 and a great small forward in the one draft

If that were Buddy in 2008 coming through we'd all be telling Hardwick to get out of the way of the key forward and go for the front and centre.

Best thing about Calsh is he looks genuinely annoyed when he loses a contest or knows he didn't contest as he should have. Great trait to have imo.

Can't teach passion. It's why Jeka didn't make it with us and won't make it with Geelong.

Pretty sure it was a Rath idea and possibly something that came from a conversation with Mitchell. Jordan Lewis spoke about it once, I think it was in a HS article. Watching the game the following week and you have it in mind as it happens you wonder why the oppo couldn’t see it happening. The momentum of play was so good.

Chol in the side I think really helped Calsher be able to be more attacking at the ball and also probably removed the focus off him a bit. There were so many good signs from him today, strong contested marks, defensive tackles and just a presence in the contest.

As conditions deteriorated it became much harder for him to get involved. His biggest issue at the moment is one that can only be solved with a preseason or 2 to put on some size in the core.

Looking forward to watching him grow as a player.

If last years draft was done again he’d have to be going first round easily. His marking and defensive pressure is terrific. He even has opponents getting nervous to stop him jumping at the ball. His finishing obviously needs work but I think most must be very surprised he’s impressed this much at AFL level already.

Didnt have his goalkicking boots on today, but love his pressure and tackling and he provides a good option on the lead in the forward line and also further up the ground. He has all the potential in him to become a great player, he does need to put on some muscle and build a tank, but really excited to see him develop over the years and become a key member of this team.

His pressure and marking look elite. The goals will come. Obviously biased but he looks just as talented, if not more talented than Cadman to me. Crazy considering their different draft positions.

The kid is still only 18 already taking on quality KP backs and showing plenty ……. who would have thought. What an amazing addition to the HFC. Has come out of nowhere!
