VFL

Round 1 - 17 disposals - 8 marks - 3 tackles - 4 inside 50s - 3 behinds
Round 2 - 19 disposals - 2 marks - 2 tackles - 4 inside 50s - 1 goal - 1 behind

I think Bennetts will definitely play some games during the second half of the year.
Yes he has improved his tackling pressure I am sure, keep it up young man.

Would like to see him polish his skills a little more. However I am a fan!

Josh Bennetts (Two goals, 21 disposals, eight marks, seven score involvements, three inside 50s)

“He played really positively this week and put in a really solid performance again. I’ve said this a number of times but he's starting to become really consistent and reliable at the level. You sort of know what you're going to get from Josh and it’s ultimately off the back of his work rate. His work rate is at AFL standard. When we talk about players working really hard, he's at the top level now in our team and he's getting rewarded for that and showing some great AFL traits. He just has to continue to stay really consistent now.”

He improved a lot this season. Was a very crafty link player at half-forward and showed plenty of signs. Unfortunately, it's an area we're currently stacked in. His lack of top end speed also hurt his chances at the next level.

Competitions for spots are intense and Josh was a victim of this. Hope he gets a shot elsewhere.

Agree the speed thing and I reckon his size too is an issue. Neat and crafty player and ultimately behind many. Still I would have preferred to retain him than Butler based on form.

I find it a bitter pill to swallow when a young player shows improvement and shows that he may have what it takes and is not given the time needed!
But this is a brutal game and list spots are hard to come by at present!
Good luck Josh and I think the majority of Hawk supporters will be hoping you get a chance some were else?
There are plenty of clubs screaming out for small forwards!

Smalls get five minutes to show they are talented; Talls get five years to show they ain't.

Sadly Josh was a footballer first, and his athletic traits didn't appear to be those of an AFL footballer.

I hope he proves me wrong - everything I've read about him as a person has been fantastic, and I genuinely feel we've let him down the way this has all happened.

You can lay that issue clearly at the AFL. List sizes reduces the clubs ability to nurture players.

I’d love for the AFL reserves to come back.

This was what the Rookie List was first introduced to do!
AFL really need to change something?
Taylor Duryea and Matt Suckling may not have been given the chance to develop under these way clubs use the Rookie lists now?
I hope the lad gets a second chance!

Would love some sort of transfer-on, transfer-off 10 man supplementary list where these b-list fellas can only do what Box Hill listed players can do with HFC (e.g. occasional training but mostly separate) but we can roll guys automatically onto the main list any time for LTI & end of season changes and then also step guys down (with their permission).
