Yze on RSN sport today! Really enjoying listening to him speak.

With Newy onboard now I’d be keen to know if he’s the replacement for Mini or Clarke or if there is still someone else he has in works.

Lambo back to his development role working with the young guys could be valuable so if he goes back to that then there is still another spot to fill.

Great listen, thanks for sharing

He’s bloody impressive. Seemed more relaxed here than his presser, so was good to hear him in this way. Love that he’s all about defence and contest, as he points out, it keeps you in games

Doesn’t sound like he believes in taggers going off the Daicos question,or maybe that’s just player specific as Daicos can play multiple positions where as say a Neale for example we know will play inside mid all game

Sounds like a smart and balanced coach, and a likeable person.

Hoping he will improve our culture and re energised the club.

Did you just say newy is joining us?

Last 3 years we struggled to do even the basics right in footy defence side , execute skills , kicking , transition all we need to work on. It's refreshing to hear someone acknowledge it and understand that from outside.
Pretty much nailed it, our game plan whilst needing a few tweaks as shown by GWS and the Pies is sustainable however it has to be executed properly.

Our general skill level the last few years has been abysmal. Handball chains just failed because players were seemingly incapable of hitting a moving target. We suddenly started kicking to players standing still instead of kicking to space. The result was that we couldn't retain possession meaning we were constantly on the back foot.

Players who would normally run in both directions would start second guessing whether we would lose possession in transition and would be caught in no man's land leaving gaping holes across the ground where we regularly got cut to shreds on the rebound and looked slow as treacle.

I don't think it was so much that our gameplan was no longer effective, I think for one reason or another the players just forgot the basics. Yze was a skilled player and if he can increase the disposal efficiency of guys like Balta and Tarranto and focus more on our skills and fitness then suddenly the gameplan starts working again and we look much better as a team and the proven system will no doubt start bearing fruit once again.

As terrible as our skills were we were still able to stay in touch with the finals although never really contenders, add to that some long term injuries to key players and our coach deciding to bolster his retiremnt fund (g0od luck to him) mid season I think a good pre season could see us coming out next year looking a lot better than many think.

Our old style of chaos football is all good but it falls apart if your kicks and handballs favour the opposition or just totally miss the target so often, if we can get our stuff together in the skill areas again then we can rebound fairly quickly.

The new coach can get players fit , full of confidence and on the same page and maybe come up with a game plan that suits the cattle he’s got.

The new coach isn’t going to be able to make our players kick better, run faster or think quicker.

West coast brought a kicking coach in about 15 years ago and had them kicking tennis balls and all these other drills and everyone got worse. They realised it was about embracing what made them elite footballers in the first place. Kicking is confidence.

If you have drafted or brought in a dodgy kick then you are stuck with it.

Having high workrate team mates will make a player's kicking look better. Gotta have someone to kick to.

Hardwick is seemingly leaving a trail of destruction based on deceit on quite a few aspects of his life. Being fawned upon by our supporters at Cotch's 300th made me puke ! He lied to us and then the classlessness comes to the fore when he starts interfering in our club, talking about our list and poaching our staff. I hope Dusty is not gullible. Member, it was Dusty who made Hardwick, not the other way around. Sorry but he can FRO.
I've lost complete respect for him.

Welcome Yze, got a good feeling about you, you appear to be very genuine. I like that.

Hardwick, GFY.
It as absolutely pathetic how some supporters turn on their own. A ****ing dynasty coach after 2 finals series in 3 decades.

If we're lucky, Yze will get as a single flag.

To be a fair comparison we have to give Yze equivalent players to Cotch, Dusty, Jack and Rance to give him the same chances as Dimma of getting success.

If you're looking for a fair comparison then we have to also go back to being a basket case off the field, have horrible facilities and are the laughing stock off the comp.

And I guess cull a bunch of our list so in round 1 we can match round 1 2010 team with talent which included Adam Thompson, McGuane, Nahas, Tambling, Hislop, Farmer, Moore, Nason, Simmonds, Thursfeild, Morton, Relton Roberts and Vickery.

Not to mention Dusty hadn't played a game and his attitude was a big question mark, Rance was a forward, Jack hadn't broken out and Cotch had 25 games played and struggled to stay injury free. Dimma didn't just inherit guns, he helped make them into ones.

But yeh Dimma totally started in a better position than Yze is 🙄

That’s true, Yze isn’t starting his role with the same young talent Dimma had.

But it was a major change in coaching philosophy and attitude ( mindfulness etc) at the end of 2016 that got us 3 flags. That talent would have amounted to nothing had Benny and Peggy not put the wheels in motion for change.

Yze will benefit from all that culture we’ve built, which wasn’t there when Dimma arrived.
Let’s hope our list management and recruiting team can put together a Premiership side again.

serious opinion??? Of course a coach can improve players kicking skills. Mark Williams achieved marked improvement in that area when he was with us. Yze said in a recent article that he coached Petracca on their off training days to improve his kicking and feel for a kick.
Some players will never improve if they are totally flawed, like George for instance, but others can and will. Just don’t bite off more than they can chew, like we saw with Rance.
Tailoring a player to a position and teaching him to make better decisions in pressure situations will also improve kicking skills as they’ll have instinct to do what the coach has taught them.

Should be noted that Yze’s first job at the Hawks was as a goal kicking coach part time before he was promoted to be a full time assistant
If anyone knows how to kick a ball it’s the guy that helped develop Franklin
Newy as also had developmental roles at the Hawks

Think both of them can absolutely help some of players go back to basics and help them improve on those fundamentals

Not just help them improve, I reckon they will insist they improve or they won’t get a game in the seniors!

They kick the ball non stop at training. I hope we aren’t putting a spot light on Tim Tarranto’s kicking because he is what he is . 2016 we were over coached and micromanaged.

Yep, poor ol' Dimma inherited the abysmal list Wallace got sacked for not taking to finals the year before! ;)

I'm looking forward to the fresh coaching perspective, happy with the Yze appointment.

With him having been in the industry for so long, I kinda forgot how unusual his surname is until I had an 'Yze? WTF? How do you spell that!' conversation with a couple of non-footy people! 🤣

Terry got sacked because he was spiralling the joint into the abyss.
List, game plan (changed weekly) etc etc plenty of boxes ticked.
But yes I agree. Yze looks a great appointment. Solid process from a very professional organisation.
