Really like this guy.
I always felt we needed a Zurharr type and this guy has that sort of feel to him.

Some guys complement a high pressure forward line as opposed to being ‘the man’. Maybe WAFL doesn’t allow him to shine.

Regardless, he’s been great in his 2 games.

Also comes across as that bloke that may ruffle some feathers… which is again someone we lack.

Love a guy that plays at a higher than expected level when he steps up from state league. It’s much better than looking like an absolute Gun at peel then disappointing at the top level.

Nice to see the aggro and backchat to some of the Hawks players too.
About damn time we got someone that ruffles up a few opposition feathers.

I'm not trying to incite Paracleet but I always thought it was easier to kick a Sherrin. To the point where I would never buy a burley unless I couldn't get a Sherrin.
This is a very interesting topic. I personally was not aware of these perceived differences of each brand but in saying that, I was kicking a brand new sherrin with my son at the park and was silently noting its more narrow look. Gotta say, I also had never kicked more accurately with a footy than that session. Looking at the older footy, it's a freakin different brand lol.
I thought I had improved.

Grew up in Victoria and moved to WA. Always found a Sherrin much easier to kick than a Burley (i.e. I was actually a decent kick with the Sherrin). Haven’t kicked either in anger for 15 years though.

Used to like the old school Burley's as they would fatten up quicker but the new ones stay narrow and hard for ages.

Anyways, I really like this Emmett lad.

Orright, let's see the proof....
April
Ras - Tagged out of it. The tag was ludicrous over zealous and he was frequently infringed without getting a kick*. Bit concerning he couldn't get a bit more involved on transition but he worked hard defensively inside. When fully filled out he will be a weapon inside both first hands and defensive pressure wise inside. The final jewel in the Freo God-level inside midfield crown.

Tracey - Got better as the game went on. Have my doubts he'll make it as a AFL key forward since he lacks a bit in agility, tank and core strength (only moderate lack, but enough) given he is at the shorter end of the key forward height continuum. Skills and mongrel are there though. (I suspect he's going to have to switch to defense if he's going to make it.)

Worner - Looks like a bloody good WAFL player

Wilson - BOG

Corbett - Worked hard and ignoring the missed shots a good game. His decision making is not AFL standard however.

Emmett - I know he kicked 0.5 but we might have something here. Would need to see him live (and not drinking. I.E. I'm not going to see it) to get an idea of what his defensive running patterns are like. (Plenty of great small forwards play state league as mid or even key forwards because they have no tank / cbf running. Stubbs for instance in this very game)

Kuek - Kicked 4 against a bad side. The number of times he fell over either getting side stepped trying to tackle or trying to turn in a contest gives me 'never-going-to-make-it vibes (It was Brett Bewley-esqu).

Henry - Had a poor start and had couple of mini sooks but around them did some good stuff. Still doesn't know how to position himself in general play.

Draper - This was the kiddie they've named in the emergencies right? His poise and skill execution really stood out the way a real AFL player stands out playing seconds. I didn't note his defensive work (the broadcast is so low quality any wide shots you can't tell who is who in a pack) but we might have hit Cat B gold here.

Davies - First time I've seen him play. I will reserve judgement as today all I saw was him being outbodied by smaller opponents and fumbles / shanked kicks.

Looks the real deal. Smart, hard as a cats head & takes the game on.

Some of his intermediate touches when he received from a quick handball out of the pack & got in on in a split second to a running player who scored were gold. That sense of positioning himself as the link you can’t teach.
Him & Johnson & Brayshaw seemed to work really well together.
Most score involvements from either side today no?

His hand ball look lightning. And his play on are really quick .wont waste a fraction of a second if he gets ball in hand . Even in highlights there are at least 4 or more instances of these 2. All resulted in a freo goal( that's why it came in highlights any way).if it was any other player I am not sure those passages of play would result in a goal. Steal at 41... And I remember Chris 25 was talking up about Emmet during last season and he hoped Freo would pick him up and Freo did... In Sam Surt case also Chris 25 picked him for us in his phantom draft. Emmet look a Best 22 lock at the moment. He is going to be a massive fan favorite. I had set Mili Lucas photo as both screen saver and background picture in my PC. I am going to change one of them to Emmett.

Looking at the rules for rising star. I think he’s 2 months too old to be nominated. “Need to be under 21 at 1st of January of the nomination year”. Will turn 22 in November.
He wouldn’t get it anyway. Eddie Ford had a similar game stat wise but kicked 3. He’s also got a bigger body of work.
