What happened to you?

In the first six weeks, prior to the 2 week break, he was averaging 23.7 possessions a game as well as 4.2 tackles. Since he has come back, his average over the last four games have dropped to 18.2 possessions a game and 2.2 tackles a game.

Wouldn't you think, after a couple of weeks break, he'd come back refreshed? His last 3 games have been his worst, and include his three worst disposal counts for the season; teen games (17, 18, 18).

What can we expect for the remaining half of the season? Wellers pt.1 or Wellers pt.2?

PS: Abit of extra information...
First six rounds: 7 frees for, 2 frees against.
Last four rounds: 2 frees for, 5 frees against.

I must admit that I have noticed that Wellingham's influence on the game has dropped away. Hard to maintain form all season but hopefully he will get back to his early season form.

Maybe like some other players in the side he is getting a Bit Tired. Hopefully the week-off will help

My only real answer to Wellingham's "drop off" in from is injury.

Even when the Doctor clears you to play after an injury, the effects of that injury can still persist, whether it be physical or mental.

Hopefully like Dave said, the break helps him, because on his early season form he was a top 10 player at the club, while at the moment he is struggling to hold his place.

He had a goos start but his good games were against weaker sides i though he was poor against the saints and was terrible against the cats and ever since that game he has done nothing. There is no deffensive preasure or anything from him and he hasnt been kicking goals that he should. Hopefully its just a form slump and will be back to his best at the business end of the season.

As others have mentioned he hasn't been right since returning from injury. Whether this is the reason for his poor form who knows but it seems the most logical reason. Some players just don't cope well with injuries. I hope he returns to his best soon because we are a much better side when he is.

Pretty easily explained.

The first 6 weeks I reckon you would have been in at probably 40-50% of centre bounces, coming back from injury and with Pendlebury's move back into the guts, I can't think of anytime (maybe once or twice) that I've seen him start in at the centre bounce.

I thought he was quite good in the 2nd half on the weekend, especially the last quarter when he had about 6 or 7 disposals.

He just needs to learn to adjust his game to be able to play in different positions, whether it be wing, HF or HB. I think he would ideally like to be starting on the ball and playing most of his minutes there, but it isn't always going to pan out that way.

Anyway he is still getting used to AFL standard football, I don't think we can just assume that he'll always be able to play at the level he played at, at the beginning of the year. He is still just a baby, time and experience are the only things Wellingham really needs now.

I thought that there were worrying signs of the old Wellingham laziness in last week's game. He was VERY poor defensively and looks slow when chasing (which he isn't).

My biggest worry with him is that he is a bit weak mentally. The injury has affected his confidence and he is also slipping into old habits.

Btw, that mark that Jamar took in the last I hold him partially responsible for. Although Josh was lazy and no-where near him, Wellers was right next to him and just let him trot up to the forward line on his own and plonk himself right in the action. I was screaming fior Wellers to pick him up at least to put some pressure on him.

Wellingham is one of the more gifted players in our side so i'd like to see him switch on again. He can be a very damaging player when on song.

The stats and output don't bother me so much, As Invig has mentioned he has spent less time in the middle and some of that and the the lack of touch is probably just recovery / still slightly carrying the injury.

My worry is that he has not been working nearly as hard in general as he was pre-injury. If that is kept up I'd be thinking about dropping him. He certainly needs a bigger fitness base as is evident by his last quater fade outs but there is still no excuse to put in such a poor effort when chasing and defending.

He looks out of touch, I don't buy the argument that he was only playing poorer teams early on, as he was on fire in round 1 against the Bulldogs and was a clear BOG until Barry Hall cleaned him up. I hope he switches on again after the split round.

Agree TRS.

He is such an important player for us. Rarely lose when he's playing well.

But he's been painfully down since the injury.

He makes us such a better ball carrying, run them off their legs, attacking type of team when he's up and about.

Has played selfish football since returning from injury.

Looks to be bad wellers from seasons past, hopefully good wellers returns after the break

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be a Where's Waldo style puzzle where you had to find Wellers instead. I was a bit disappointed when it turned out to be a typical discussion about a players form, or lack of it. So I went ahead and made one myself.

Good pickup.

Certainly he hasn't returned to the form he was in before injury.

Hopefully the break does him good.

Certainly needs a strong 3-4 weeks after the break if he wants to maintain his spot in the side. Certainly quite a few players will be pushing for his spot.

Two Words:

CONTRACT EXTENSION

Since he signed his extension, his form has dropped off.

It is common that when players sign new contracts there from drops off.

Lets hope that he picks up again.

Strangely enough, this comment does not lack precedent. Players in a "contract year" in U.S. sports are well known for putting up career-best seasons.
