MVP West Coast Eagles BigFooty Player of the Year 2024

Remove this Banner Ad

Greetings West Coast board posters, it's time to count down your votes for the WCE BF Player of the Year award.

Posters vote the best 5 players on the Eagles team after every game in a 5 4 3 2 1 fashion. These are then weighted depending on the number of voters and then collated for your champ after 24 rounds.

I will add a favourite voters for each player after they're announced and will add a running contents in this post so you can find each result as I go (if someone can show me how to do it :$).

After the winner is announced I can add screen shots of your votes and any other questions you may have that is within the realms of me being able to work out.

Cheers!

Top right of the post you want to link in the contents list will have a little share icon, in that you'll find a hyperlink to that post to copy.

Then in the post you want to add the contents list in: click on the chainlink icon (Insert Link) then paste the copied hyperlink to "URL" and whatever place/player it is in "Text".

That's how I used to do it.

Dom Sheed

1726010788878.png

Sheed polled in 2 games this year, rounds 10 & 12. Either struggled to make the seniors or get on the park at least, and when he did his lack of fitness was exposed. It has been revealed he is suffering from an ongoing foot problem and it will continue to affect his career until retirement.

Not a terrible debut season from the Whopper, doesn't look out of his depth at this level but will need to up his production next year after a proper preseason. Polled his only votes in round 23.

A pretty disappointing year for JJ, both for games played and the quality of those games. Though bringing speed and the willingness to take the game on he has a habit of turning the ball over. Polled his only votes in round 16.

Rhett Bazzo

1726021285019.png

After spending the majority of the year battling a groin issue, Rhett managed a handful of games for the Beagles before getting a late season call up for the trip to Kardinia Park against the Cats in round 24 due to Barrass and McGovern being unavailable, though I'd think it's a day he'd rather forget. Hopefully he can hit the next preseason hard and come back healthy for round 1 2025.

Matt Flynn

A frustrating debut season at the Eagles for Flynn. After suffering a freak injury on the eve of the season it felt like he never truly regained his full fitness for 2024. His first quarter for the Eagles looked like a dream come true, but he was unable to build on that after suffering another injury and then finished his season in the WAFL putting up some lackluster numbers. Another of the ones that can hopefully have a good run at his preseason and come back in 2025 and battle with Bailey Williams for the ruck spot in the seniors. Polled his best votes in round 12.

Andrew Gaff

Pretty hard to knock Gaff for his 2024. Everyone including himself knew the game had passed him by and he spent the majority of the year putting up very good numbers in the Beagles and showing those younger players his always impressive work rate. Was recalled for 2 farewell games late in the year - one in the win against the Kangaroos in Tasmania where his heroic mark late in the 4th that set up the winning goal was compared to the Nick Riewoldt back with the flight MOTY contender only better. His farewell game against the Blues in round 23 was one to forget (for the players, coaches and fans altogether) but he deserved the send off at the least. Much maligned over his last 2-3 seasons, this guy is a champion of our club and will always be remembered as such.

Callum Jamieson

After a preseason where his rehab work could only be described as "interesting", Jamo started the year as a KPF prospect and appeared to be building some decent form before being struck down by injury and missing the the rest of the season. I'm still unclear about what that injury is exactly, it's still listed as TBC and the timeframe TBC, and his future is TBC. Polled his most votes in round 3.

Tyrell Dewar

I think we can all agree there's something about this kid, a smooth mover with great vision and an excellent user of the footy. Took far too long to get a debut game at senior level and then had to wait until the back end of the year to get a decent slab of games together. Kicked his first goal in AFL in 2 different games, an extremely rare feat in the modern game. Polled his best votes in round 24 where he looked very comfortable at the level. Hoping he can be best 22 from round 1 2025.

Zane Trew

1726023762677.png

Another player that seemed to only get a game after Simpson departed, Zane had some promising late season form that scored him some votes. Unsure where he sits going forward - one of those too good for WAFL, not sure if good enough for AFL players but we will find out with some more exposure if he's still on the list next year. Polled well in rounds 18 & 22.

Ryan Maric

1726024086181.png

Ryan cemented his spot in the 22 with 19 games this year (a few as the sub) and it's still not quite clear what his best position in the side is. It is clear however that his disposal is one of the best on our list and we need to find a way to utilise that as best we can. Still very young, he can hopefully be a big part of our rebuild and journey back up the ladder. Polled in 5 games for the year, with his best game for votes in round 19 vs the Saints.

Campbell Chesser

1726024518039.png

Currently the most polarising player on the Eagles list, Campbell had a bit of a meh 2024. There were glimpses of great running and link up play but a lot of being stuck in no man's land. There is conjecture that he is a victim of Simpson's "Gimp Decoy Wing" role, whilst others say he's still tired and sore from running across the Nullabor in an oversized guernsey the morning after being drafted. Regardless there's a player there to work with that appears to be better playing behind the ball off the half back line, which is coincidentally where he played his junior footy. Hopefully the next coach can get the most of out Campbell going forward. Had his best game votes wise vs the Crows in round 11.

Jack Hutchinson

1726025000559.png

Our latest edition to the club via the MSD, Jack got straight off the plane and kicked 5 goals in our WAFL side in beautiful Northam - welcome to WA! Clearly an elite athlete and hard at the ball - much like Ryan Maric we're still working out where Jack fits best in our side. His game in round 24 against the Cats was a highlight where he looked like one of the few players on our side that actually cared and his votes as best on ground for the Eagles confirms that. A lot to look forward to in 2025 for Jack and us fans.

Jack Petruccelle

1726025659463.png

Jack had a promising start to 2024, polling well in rounds 1, 5 and 7, but in typical Petrol fashion succumbed to injury (and suspension). Can be a solid contributor when fit and hits the scoreboard but has a tendency to go missing and appears to not run as hard defensively. Some Eagles fans love to hate Petch for these reasons, but really he's far from the biggest problem on our list right now - I'll leave you to yourself to form your opinion on Jack.

Jamie Cripps

1726106419812.png

In what felt like a bit of a sub-par year for Cripps, he still managed to kick 27 goals in an abysmal team. The eye test says he still has a habit of burning team mates, however he still kicked some amazingly clutch goals from tough spots on the ground. Still one of our hardest workers and much revered by the coaching staff at the Eagles, here's hoping his work ethic can rub off on our younger smaller forwards. Polled well in rounds 12,13 and 15.

Tom Cole

1726106932724.png

After a few injury ruined seasons Tom finally managed to get on the park for all 23 games. A bit of a victim of our lack of midfield pressure, he appeared to look a lot more comfortable playing further up the field in the last handful of games for the season. Tom polled in 14 of our games for the year, with his best votes coming in rounds 9 and 20.

Jack Darling

1726107908718.png

A below par year for Jack as father time appears to be catching up with him. Became our second highest ever goal scorer and now sits on 298 AFL games with rumours of possibly joining North Melbourne next year. Dropped after Simpson left, Jack went back to the WAFL and played an excellent game and returned to the senior side with a bit more efficiency. Scored best on ground honours in round 19 vs St Kilda.

Jack Williams

1726108836171.png

A definite break-out year for Jack, showing he is more than capable of playing as our 3rd tall forward come back-up ruck. An incredibly reliable set shot, he also showed glimpses of genuine agility when the ball hit the deck. Next season promises to be even bigger for Jack as he hopefully gets his body as best he can after a big preseason and with more exposure at the top level. Jack only polled in 5 games, with his highest votes coming in rounds 8, 18 & 21.

Harry Edwards

1726109349556.png

Despite only playing 9 games, Harry polled very well. Though still suffering from rotten luck when it comes to injuries, and being behind Barrass and McGovern for KPD posts, it felt like he really took a step forward in his development when given the opportunity this year. Appears to have a good balance between lockdown and intercepting and if we lose Barrass this off season he will become a very important part of a our defense for the future. Harry polled in 6 games this year, with his best vote tallies coming in rounds 19 & 23.
