A short term stop gap is exactly what he is and yes we should certainly be pumping games into BW, Strnadica was insurance depth if we went down a ruckman ...as we have.

What has altered the pecking order in ruck depth, has been the surprising form that Hugh Dixon has shown, as he has stood up and made a good fist of the chances that have been given to him, as a second string ruckman in the starting 22.
I don't think Dixon would be anything but a pinch hitter but BW I hope could be a number 1 . Is 3cm that big a difference?

I think BW at 199cms is a bit undersized . Not so much at the centre bounce where he can use his leap but around the ground he is on the small side

I'd rather not, you make some good observations, and I already had the other two blocked for different reasons.

You’ll have to take the good with the bad then. Don’t try to change me, baby

Would love to see Waterman get a go at the role he plays in the WAFL in the senior team. Just looks a much better player at this level, but hard to know how much is role and how much is the lower level
Yeah waterman is very effective when playing predominantly in the forward 50 at wafl level.
I think he'd do pretty well at afl level too but generally its the land of the giants down there already so he plays further up the ground

Stats, and my thoughts for your vanquished players yesterday (roughly from best to worst, but not really)...

Brady Hough (19 disposals, 9 marks, 3 tackles, 2 i50s)
Eventually I settled on Hough being the Beagle's BOG yesterday, as XON went a little quiet in the second half - I suspect he may have been tagged, but that's not the type of thing I was really looking out for. I actually feel the statisticians did Hough a disservice yesterday, and I think they didn't credit him with a few touches, and he may have been in the low 20s. He was fantastic for a kid with such limited senior experience - composed with the football, happy to work his way through traffic, and most impressively for me - was very sound overhead. He just has 'it' and has a huge career ahead. Absolute bargain in the draft, and would have gone first round with more exposure.

Xavier O'Neill (27 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 10 i50s, 1.2)
It would have been very easy for Xavier to drop his head this week, but he responded in the perfect fashion by easily being the Beagles' best midfielder. He was sound in tight, worked his way through tackles and congestion and used the ball well all day. 10 inside 50s demonstrates how important he was to the attacking thrusts. Should probably have finished with at least 2 goals, which was a little costly in the end (sorry everyone). Has to be recalled.

Luke Strnadica (17 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle, 29 HOs, 3 i50s)
Thought he played a good game yesterday given his lack of a real preseason, and had a very interesting battle with Ajang Ajang (one I felt he was losing around the ground early, but I'd say he split by the end of the day). I was impressed by his handballing in tight and his willingness to get involved in general play. I'd like to see him have more of an aerial presence as the season progresses, though I'm sure that will come with more match fitness. Will really be pushing for a starting berth with Naitanui out.

Jake Waterman (18 disposals, 12 marks, 1 tackle, 4 i50s, 2.2)
Thought Perth did a reasonable job restricting his influence yesterday, but we all know how dominant he is at WAFL level and he produced a suitably solid effort all game. Led strongly all game and linked up well to set up forward thrusts. Missed what was likely to be the winning goal late, but it was a tough shot from the boundary line.

Sam Petrevski-Seton (15 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 0.1)
Started the game in a very quiet fashion, and came into it more as the match progressed. Though he didn't touch the ball near enough - and I thought he looked pretty proppy with a lot of strapping on his legs - it became apparent that he's too good for this level. Though he recorded 0 inside 50s, some of his bullet passes to Waterman were well above WAFL standard. He needs a few more weeks in the WAFL, but I'm looking forward to having him fit and firing by mid-season. Missed a pretty simple snap that was, again, costly.

Greg Clark (18 disposals, 6 marks, 9 tackles, 4 i50s)
A reasonable effort upon his return from injury. Disposal wasn't great, but that's never been advertised as his strong point. Conceded 4 free kicks as well. Got more involved as the match progressed (and the tag switched to XON, perhaps?) He'll be better for the run, though if you're not getting minutes in the legs at AFL level, does it even really count? Tackling machine.

Jack Williams (7 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 1 HO, 1 i50, 2.2)
An interesting (and a little erratic) league debut, though no shame in that. Had a very good first quarter before going missing a little, making some schoolboy errors, but then kicked the first of the last quarter and looked up and about again. I'm shocked that his profile says that he's 198cm, as he looks much shorter to me, but perhaps that's due to his slightly crouched style. Think there's heaps to work with here, and he definitely has a nice big boot on him. Spilled a few contested marks that you can just tell he'll be clunking by the end of the season.

Callum Jamieson (11 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 7 HOs, 1 i50, 1.0)
I was pretty critical of Callum early, but he had a much more productive second half where he took a few nice marks, kicked a nice goal in the square and looked much more of a footballer. Am I convinced that he'll make it? No, not really. But I do think he can draw some real confidence from his improvement throughout the game to take into the next few WAFL rounds. Seems to be thrown into a number of different roles again, which I don't think will necessarily help his development as much as we hope it will.

Isiah Winder (14 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 2 i50s, 0.1)
A very so-so performance, where he barely touched it in the first quarter, but did well to involve himself as the match progressed. Showed some real flair to dash through congestion a couple of times, but then let himself down with some poor decision making and disposal. Didn't manage to pick up the ball late which could very well have seen him get it over the top for the winning goal. Summed up his game for me - an 'almost' performance.

Always hard for WCE boys going into the WCER, the non listed boys are majority WAFL reserves at best....think they did well v Perth, pushing them to 2 pts. with a relatively inexperienced side. Z Sumich would struggle to get a game at SF, yet he is WCER WAFL captain. The ex EF boys in Ryan, Watson and Creasey were in and out of EF side under Wiley/Monaghan, and EF were finishing bottom 3 and if back at EF probably be playing reserves more then league. Ditto the ex Perth boys as well. Good effort by WCER

Winder's Dad gonna hunt you down

I went out to the huddle at quarter time and Williams looked pretty much the same height as Jamieson. Would be every bit of 198cm and possibly a bit more.
I find all taller guys dont look that that tall anymore. Back in the day ruckman used to look like giants. Must be because all the midfielders are so big these days.

Could stay out there too , an extra player on the field would help .

I'm still hoping Jamieson can play a part at AFL level , still time .

Me too. Promising signs from him, though I still think he will be forward, not a ruckman, and he's quite a good kick at goal. I think FF is his best spot.
