Live report - quarter 2
Houli started the second quarter as he finished the first immediately launching the team into attack but for no result. A pair of free kicks gave the Eagles two shots at goal with La Cras converting his attempt from 15m out. Davey tackled like a star and followed up, passing beautifully to Stanton who kicked his second from 30m out. The Essendon defence - led by Fletcher Ramanauskas and Ryder - worked hard and started to gel but were under pressure with the Eagles moving the ball too easily into attack. Goals dried up either end before Davey dodged and weaved past his opponent and slotted his second. Hunter goaled but Essendon responded quickly when, under pressure, Watson used his vision to find Stanton for his third. Lynch kicked truly from 50m out to make the difference a point before Watson, who was everywhere, decided the best avenue to goal was to do it himself and kicked his first.
