Lloyd got off to the start he wanted marking strongly 50m out, but only kicked a behind to get the Bombers on the scoreboard. Davey was left alone after a free kick and ran inside the 50m arch to kick the first major of the game. Another Lloyd mark looked promising but he again kicked a behind. Lovett-Murray then found himself alone in the goal square to kick the team's second before a 50m penalty in the centre square resulted in a Stanton goal. West Coast started to turn it on with Embley goaling and his team-mates starting to swarm, finding a number of opportunities to get clear shots at goal. Hunter, inparticular, looked dangerous and kicked the Eagles second of the game before a good pass from Rosa to Hansen resulted in their third soon after. As the quarter wore on Houli continued to rack up pocessions but West Coast were able to rebound out of defence too easily with Glass impressive early and the Eagles midfield starting to link well and find space. Essendon had 54 kicks for the quarter and West Coast 51 kicks.
