Anyone want to take a pop at our side for Round 1? Before any extra players may join due to injuries...

A bit worried about the tall defenders and a lack of ruck depth. Could we trial Gibson down back in Gooch's absence?

Ash Atkins off to Gold Coast

Wonder if this effects her GF on Saturday, like it now does to Western.

I think she will do ok there.

Wasn't taking us to be a flag winning team, but I would have been ok with keeping her a couple more years, especially with how many we ended up losing.

West Coast have backflipped on their decision to disallow AFLW draftees to play in Saturday’s WAFLW grand final with new Eagle Mikayla Western set to suit up for Claremont. Last Thursday, West Coast informed the WA Football Commission that any player they selected in the AFLW Draft and was due to play in the grand final would be made unavailable for selection.

But on the back of frustration from competing clubs East Fremantle and Claremont and fans threatening not to renew their AFLW memberships, the Eagles will permit Western to play. The same can’t be said for Claremont mature-age pre-draft signings Ella Smith and Sasha Goranova, the midfielder pair set to watch on from the sidelines after joining the Eagles earlier this month.

Western, 24, was drafted by the Eagles with their final selection of the night (53). The sister of Docker Joel, Fremantle were set to pounce on Western if she fell through to their final four selections after making her debut as a top-up player when the club was decimated by COVID and injuries late last season. The speedy winger/forward was named in Claremont’s grand final side at main training last night and will be key to the Tigers’ hopes of downing the undefeated Sharks.

Midfielder Emily Elkington was also drafted by West Coast with pick 43 but has already been ruled out of Saturday’s grand final with an ankle injury that has seen her miss the past month. Tigers half-back Madeleine Scanlon headed to Fremantle at pick 27 and will need to pass a medical assessment but is expected to line up in Saturday’s decider.

Now this is interesting.

I have to chase this one up.

Excellent news. 👍

Pity Smith and Goranova can’t play.

Also a shame that the mature agers signed last month had to agree to the conditions of not playing for their WAFL teams ….. had they allowed this then Scanlon would have signed on too.

Sometimes the Club does some dumb stuff at least this is a realisation that they messed up and and have been big enough to backflip on what was a poor decision.

She said in that video at Claremont training that she’d been rehabbing for a bit, I think.
Yeah saw that. I was thinking why not say what the injury is?

She’d been an Eagle for 20 minutes and was already being cagey about injury. No wonder the recruiters liked her.

Yep, they have a new approach, recruit players who ALREADY have ankle injuries, can't blame it on the Eagles medical staff then!
