Without dominating, I thought Georgie Cleaver was the pick of the EF talls. She had 12 disposals, 9 HO, 7 tackles and a goal. Importantly she was very good at bringing it to ground and the smalls at EF sharked it pretty well at her feet.

Now that we have Amy Franklin, we no longer need to take Cleaver with our first pick. That said, she would still be handy. Will Freo pick her as a like for like replacement of Amy??
I'd take Georgie, assuming we get first pick. She's versatile enough that she's not just a forward, can get up the ground, help in the ruck, etc. She's also a great contested ball player and mark, which Franklin's not -- though Franklin is a better outside runner. It would make us stacked with young talls who all play differently, and plenty of cover if one gets injured (which always happens). Good situation to be in.

The other choice is Srhoj, and while I like her a lot, she's not Zippy Fish. We'll be up to our eyeballs in good midfielders and half forwards/backs after the 2025 draft anyway, so if we miss Srhoj, it's not as much of a big deal. Players like Cleaver are much rarer.

We are actually pretty well placed in terms of talls and players that can help in the ruck.

It will depend greatly on how we see the Wakfer twins and Hartill progressing and where they will play. I would not be relying on Simmons for much as I cannot see her being AFLW quality.

Meanwhile Shilling and McDonald look solid as our KPD.

Our KPF's helping up the ground has not been our problem - we have had too few targets left to go to in our inside 50. Maybe it was Saturday (or maybe what I saw) but Cleaver seemed to spend a lot of the game inside her own 50.

I am with you on the Srhoj v Cleaver dilemma. A nice one to have and easy to mount a case either way

Freo and West Coast presidents wouldn't.
Has the WAFL dividend increased from Freo and West Coast since the AFLW has been launched? I doubt it.

Since the current system has a direct line from WAFL club to the 2 WA clubs, I would be OK if we invested more into the WAFL clubs with their WAFLW teams and worked better in tandem. It is in our best interest to help them.

On my way into the GFs Saturday morning, caught the ladies training. Shilling had a hell of bandage on her knee. Frankling leadign hard and strong. Could stick around, had other things on mind.

Post U18 GF euphoria, Franklin came to see me. After a chat about the game we spoke about new season and shes chomping at the bit. Go a little strain in her right thumb ligament but should be good as gold.

Thus the stern talking to. Preferably by the Freo and WC talent scouts. Playing the 16 year olds is the main reason the WAFLW exists.
I meant the long term interest of the players. Not all 16 year old girls will flourish if thrown into senior footy. I can imagine some being against it, especially if playing with friends was what got them into the sport in the first place.

Some juniors need to be let play out their junior years in the juniors.

Being good enough at 16 to make the seniors takes serious training and dedication, regardless of talent. I can't imagine there would be many, if any, players good enough to be eligible who weren't serious about getting drafted. And if they're serious about getting drafted, they'll want desperately to play seniors, because otherwise it won't happen.

Just saw the ALFW draw for our girls,
I get the want to include the Indigenous names for locations, but did the names as we know we need to dropped.
Couldn't it have shown both eg /?

Common ground names were on there?

18s v WA Country today

2005 born

Henry - Inside Mid - outstanding. Played one half only but was dominant. Weather suited her as did the physicality of Country.
Srhoj - Outside Mid - got the ball and burned it more often than not.
Raison - Forward/Onball - really good onball when Henry was subbed (180 a bit undersized for a perm ruck)
Slocombe- HFF/Mid - quick, I believe first game since her knee injury. got caught HTB a couple times but has pace and skill.
Grassenis - Key Back - Good aerially. Disposal can be rushed. Hard to beat one on one.
Dodd - Back/Mid - Hard at it, good tackling pressure. Foot skills good in wet.
Tompkin - Undesized HFF. Not AFLW quality
Fitzgerald - Battering ram. Not AFLW quality
Elliot - Just flipping lol. 175cm, thats why she got a go.
