You obsession with a small forward, is clouding your perspective of talent verses perceived positional need.

You might just want to get up to speed with her 2023 WAFLW season, before bagging her out.

No point having forward of any size, if you don't have quality players to kick it to them,
When did I bag her out? Didn't say she was a bad player whatsoever. Stated the fact she'd been delisted from Freo.

It's a bit odd Freo didn't stick thick with her if she's over those injury concerns?

I think the Daisy effect will be huge in retaining interstate talent, especially from Victoria. And the fact that so many of our talented players are do young will be very cohesive for the new girls coming in.

Yeah, it also helps that the girls nominate whether they want to get drafted by an interstate club or not so ticking that box should show that they're prepared to move. But yes, the Daisy effect will be 'UGE.

She got over them, after being delisted.

And they rated her, so may we'll have re drafted her.

Agreed, the fact that they have to put their hand up to nominate to go National when given the option to stick to their state. I think it takes a certain mindset and confidence to do that and definitely lends itself to a higher rate of retention for teams outside of the VFL, especially WA.

The longer the AFLW keeps the option for nominating draft, thr better for us, i think.

Well, lets put it this way your comment of her being " delisted from a struggling Fremantle side", doesnt read like a glowing endorsement rather inferred that she was crap.

She was delisted because:

Their list was in pretty good shape ( they have underachieved with the players they have had ) and she had some injury concerns.

I would guess that Daisy has identified that we needed immediate help and reinforcements, in the midfield with a few more mature match hardened bodies that can help out our thin midfield stocks, hence why Hoskins and Tilly have been added to the list.

Our list is in serious rebuild and as such we need some "baby sitters" as I call them, that are short term fixes that buy you time to draft and develop your young higher end recruits.

We are still another two to three years of drafting away from when we will see genuine - ladder lift.

Plenty of time to address the small forward role is future drafts, besides it's a role that I think Weston could play right now.

I'll let you put lots of things in my mouth mate, but not words.

I didn't mean to sound disparaging re: the player.

Western could fill that role but had a very poor season. I'd throw out Bel Smith as a makeshift option, she reads the play better than anyone on our list and has the skills.

Seems like there’s a few options for our Rowley injury replacement signing. I hope we go for an overlooked draftee rather than mature age cover, since we’ve just picked up Hosking and Sergeant.

Still don’t understand the Simmons signing but otherwise I’m pretty happy with how things seem to have turned out.

From the club re Sergeant

“We were delighted to round out the night by selecting Tilly who brings maturity, a competitive streak and is familiar to the group having after being a train-on player with us last season.”

Was a train on player last year so this was on the cards from a way back

Do the girls still pre select what state they'd prefer to go to and did Rentsch choose WA? Coming from a small town of a few hundred people in rural Victoria that's a bold move and shows she's of good character. Clearly is. Good on her, wish her the best of luck.

This is kinda funny

Geelong’s father/daughter selection qualified as such because her now 75 year old father played 2 games for Geelong in 1969

That’s not a particularly high bar to qualify as a father/daughter

Cleaver is a real good pick up as well. From what I'm reading from the 'Top Prospects' pages pre draft is she would've been an early first rounder but nominated to stay in WA for Netball commitments and since we had four picks before the Dockers we grabbed her much later she deserved to be...finally a little bit of good drafting luck for this team.

And just like that, our list of quality midfielders goes to six -- Swanson, Lewis, Drennan, Rentsch, Kavanagh and Rowley. Plus Roberts, when she's in the middle... but as this group develops, she'll spend more time up forward kicking goals.

Sure, Rentsch, Rowley and Kavanagh still have a lot of development ahead. Drennan might be retiring about the time they get really good, but by that stage, we'll have others.

Six properly good mids is a great number by AFLW standards. The problem then becomes whether any of them will be actually outstanding, because you definitely need a superstar or two, like Rowbottom, Blackburn, Conti, etc. Swanson would be it, but there's her kicking... Rowley's good, but I'm not sure she'll be THAT good. Ditto Lewis.

Maybe Rentsch or Kavanagh or both will be it, it'll be fun to see.

How nice is it to have draftees appearing to be ecstatic/very happy to be drafted and not all sooky la la.

Hopefully this enthusiasm permeates through the old girls and the place turns around from what it was Prior to their drafting.
