So the second semi has been decided has it? Hmm, didn't know that.
Not long back from Traralgon ,i was wrong and apologise for writing the Moe off so easily. They thoroughly outplayed the eagles today and deserved their win.Forys was sensational ,a class above his opponent. Not game to tip against them again so i will refrain from predicting anything. Love to see them come up again next week against Traralgon.

Had a few missing maffra in burgiel, horsford and killoran all would have been imortant players in the wet. Jacob Milham played, that is surprising...

The eagles look to have a hugely undermanned defense .Bristow tries his guts out but looks too slow against a class opponent.Don't know who else they could try back there.

Moe did it without makepeace as well i believe

Makepiece didn't play ,huge moment in the game which showed how fair dinkum the Moe were yesterday ,young Moe guy #29 and a Maffra guy running full tilt straight at each other with the ball in the middle the Moe guy although not that well built did not deviate an inch and was able to create a defensive clearance. the lions could be in with a real show next week at Sale if they play with the same relentless determination as they showed yesterday particularly if the coach comes back in.

Parrots did it easily over drouin with arguably there two best on ballers out....Spose you lads don't really care tho, suprised if you even know Leongatha is in the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League...;)

parrots will be on the piss next monday. They've had a good year but are a fair way off the top 3 sides

Drouin bet Maffra, Parrots beat Drouin.....You may very well be right, Though I hope not. Up to 10 16-18 y/o's have played Senior Football this year and the fact that 4 or 5 are still in the side that won its first final in a while will hopefully lead to a pretty successful period.

Traralgon are the team to beat

In the ones yes... but think Drouin could perhaps (if make it) cause upset in the reserves.

Will be tough for them they only scraped across the line against Maffra on weekend. Moe looked good getting beeten in the last min on Saturday. Could they have played there grand final on weekend?

the west gippsland latrobe football league from next season will be called the Gippsland Football League. Makes sense. if wonthaggi can be covinced to play and garfield allowed to play in the ellinbank league, it would probably be one of the most even and competitive football leagues in country victoria. hopefully it happens

Guys just wondering if some one can help me out with some info.
A few years ago Mafra had a convincing winning streak the was ended in the grand final by a shock loss.
Q1. how many games in a row did they win that season.
Q2. how much did they loose the granny by
Q3. what season was it.

I'm invovled in a grand final this week against a team that has won every game this season plus the final to go straight into the granny and am searching for some hope!

Any response will be much appreciated, cheers:thumbsu:!

In 2005 Maffra went into the Grand Final as red hot favourites winning 45 Games in a row including 3 successive premierships. 2005 would have meant 4 in a row and would have eclipsed Traralgon's record of 3 in a row. Unfortunately for Maffra, Traralgon had other ideas. Apart from the first 20 minutes of the 2nd quarter Traralgon led all day and never looked like losing and eventually came out winners by 23 points.

The victory was the boilover of the season! Earlier in the year MAffra had beaten Traralgon by 64, 51 and 81 points, the latter in the 2nd semi final ony 2 weeks prior!

Cheers!!

Rumour around the fire on Sunday when talking to people in the know re league circles is that with the name change, they're keen to re-establish the strength of the standard of the league by making sure they leave no stone unturned in getting the 10 largest population masses represented into the league next year. Tough job given the distance between the two they're trying to invite in.

hope it happens. garfield obviously out. wonthaggi and churchill should be in based on population alone. another club should come out of traralgon as well as a town of 30,000 people would easily cater for two clubs. bairnsdale is just too far away unfortunately.

I think if Churchill come in that would serve the T'gon area as a second side. 3 major teams in Morwell, Trarlgon, Churchill.

Is heyfield strong enough? been a powerhouse side for ever and always produces quality kids???

Bairnsdale and Wonthaggi are to play games at the morwell ground against each other. That is the league plan but can't see it working.

Churchill would be smashed in the big league. Traralgon already have a surrogate 2nd club with Traralgon/Tyers Utd.

Heyfield is the interesting one. Maybe...just maybe.

Bairnsdale might be stretching it a bit. They would need to have 80 players/families willing to travel those awful distances every 2nd week again. Can see mass-exodus and other local clubs benefitting. Wy Yung could also be the club that goes in, if Bairnsdale cant. all from the same area.

Churchill would be smashed as would Heyfield and TTU and Bairnsdale, all these teams have had forays into the 'MAJOR' league at some point and gone by the wayside. Not sure if any of these clubs have the coin available to be competitive and maintain it going forward

Churchill definitely should have another go at the "Gippsland League".When they were in it in the 80's and early 90's things were a lot different then.It was a lot more professional and the bigger clubs from the bigger towns like Sale ,Traralgon ,Morwell etc had all the money and could pay players straight out of the AFL to play.I'm talking guys like Merv Neagle ,Brad Sparks and as a consequence the smaller clubs like Churchill ,TTU ,Newborough and Yallourn really struggled to be competitive and the players lost interest. That wouldn't be the case nowdays.A lot of the NGFL and MGFL clubs are just as financial if not more than some of the WGFL clubs and if they were to step up i'm sure they would be able to recruit players good enough to be in with a chance each year. The league has definitely changed ,you still get the best players in each town wanting to play at the highest local level but there doesn't seem to be as many of those marquee type players who have finished their careers in the AFL wanting to come back to play in the country anymore .There seems to be more money about in the Metro leagues these days. Those type of guys used to be the reason why there was such a big gap between the top clubs and the bottom back when they first tried to expand the league in the 80's.I played in that era so i know exactly how it was back then.

Churchill havent even had thirds for basically for 2 years, kids are playing soccer in massive numbers here now and they just arent coming back to footy when they are 14/15 years old. So we would not have the base of good juniors to sustain a team going forward and thats where the money comes in having to recruit up to 10 to 12 quality players to just try and be competitve
