Western Border Football League - 2021

I think the Vics have completely cut us off so its in the hands of SA country football which has no money to do anything. Cant see Casterton going anywhere much. Too small for Hampden and too far...and to big for any local leagues. Stick with the Western Border until new clubs come in ..if ever.

Millicent won about 20 odd years ago and just missed out in 2010. If everyone from Millicent played for Millicent they would be very strong.
North are pretty cashed up at the moment and can bring in players and find employment. South have the best culture going around anywhere.
My answer would be Yes. Both Cadterton and Millicent could win premierships but North have the cash due to pokie leases etc.

What are the feelings of the footy diehards as far as Portland moving on? Is it seen as a good thing or is it going to kill off the Western Border League?
Interest has dropped off - both hamilton clubs were struggling to field a reserves side and portlands numbers were starting to drop off. I think there is strong interest to get naracoorte and penola over here and my understanding is they are trying to get atleast 3 clubs to join the league by offering them money and avoid a restructure. It wont be called the WBFL.

How would Penola go today against a North or South? Or are they comfortable where they are now?
From what I heard penola is spending more money on players than anyone else in the region so I assume they would go alright. I think they are happy where they are but the sacfl has recommended them to join the wbfl.

Speaking of Penola is my old mate John Mossop still in the district? Could play a bit! Why did they leave the WBFL in the first place?

No idea what the big fella is up to but Penola wasn't big enough to compete consistently and it I'm pretty sure they left just before the Australian Wine boom..at that stage it was a shrinking small country town.

No chance of slape retuning to East he is trying out at Glenelg, i would be surprised if he makes it next level up he has a good work ethic but way too soft imo.

Bays junior Dylan Gamble returns to the club from Mt Burr after deciding he wants to have a crack at league footy, and will be joined by Carl Slape (Kybybolite).

A couple of former East players have moved over to South led by Nick Jenkins, East will be floundering at the bottom of a very weakened league??
With North South and West looking to improve, i dont know what fabulous Phil is going to think about that i wonder if he knows what he is in for??

Big write up in the local about Phil Carmen coaching East! the article was all about Phil nothing about the playing group nothing about the needs of this club all about Phil!
Mentioned that they lost all the Philips boys in one go. Somehow Phil believes that his abilities will enable a bunch of leftovers to lift to great heights.
The hierarchy at East have no interest in developing the football department of this club and my prediction is that they will finish bottom if Casterton can grab one or two skilful players. Big pity that this club has continually gone backwards, the fools at the top must take responsibility. Phil will go away disappointed!

How are all the teams shaping up for this year? Klem, Boston, Classic any predictions of a potential ladder

Any words on recruits for the Mount teams - I see Millicent have picked up a few from the Burr.

Is this forum dead, just like the league formally known as the WBFL?..
I mean, there is no interest in it as before in previous years. any comments?

I guess nobody supports the "mini league" the wbfl has been sold down the tube by a fair bit of indolence and incompetence imo. Cant really blame support for dwindling!

Judging by the clearances so far not a lot of noticeable movement, South lose J Copping, West lose a few nobodies, North much the same, East have not lost as yet as many as i thought they would, Casterton seem to be the biggest losers atm with Millicent gaining a few from the MSEFL.
Most players from wbfl are moving to the MSEFL which it would appear to becoming the "major" leauge in the region imo.
I suppose there is a way to go yet but it would seem to me that North and South will dominate the mini leauge followed by West, Millicent East and Casterton, not necessarily in that order but very close imo.
Incredibly boring stuff just as well the AFL is on the TV a bloke wont have anything too watch if it was not!

Depending on the outcome of this years review the league may not survive. They've stated in the report that restructuring leagues is on the agenda but if they don't you would expect wbfl clubs to look to join other leagues.

There is a joint working party between what's left of the WBFL, the Mid SE & KTNFL with SACF to determine what happens next.

Unfortunately this was always on the cards and as I pointed out many moons ago, the decision to deny Hamilton Imps a move always had the potential to backfire on the WBFL and it sure did.

Hopefully everything can e worked through and you might end up with a major and minor league out of what is there.
