It might be about a well known Portland Player and where he will be this year ?????? and not D.S.,also is big Mal playing all year or just certain games. The others are good pick ups and Heywood will be strong this year if they all stay fit and play. Be intereted to know how Heywood are going with Under 18 players this year hope they can get a side together

I have heard around the traps he possibly might not be playing at all this year depends what happens in the next couple of months. Can`t say much more than that but you might get the idea ???????? Hope I am wrong as portland could use him with the likely loss of Lancaster. Good to see Holt back adds a bit of class.

Only played 19 games with Collingwood. Heywood looking to use him more as a midfielder due to his skills by foot. It thats the case big Mal should have some nice supply into the foward line. add Courtney Johns who is a big unit and Heywood look to be shaping up very nicely. Fuller is mates with Mal.

What are the chances of seeing these guys playing in the pre - season cup??? Would seem unlikely.

Was on the blower to a former heywood/millicent player a few weeks back and he had a bit of a chuckle about the the lions recruiting coo's to date, his main concern was heywood's juniors/u18's.

It's alright to have these pie's signed up but if injuries occur...and all you've got is your wayne 'chooka howlets & seasoned two's players to call up, your list is tested. In Heywood's case, severly tested !!

I have one example = 2002 Ashleigh Brown was appointed Captain coach of Millicent, five players followed him from over the apple isle. Millicent already had Joey Cotton so that was a bonus...vibe was good, the a's list was above average and Brown had a good senior group togethor.

What happened...they finished 6th or 7th that yr !? injuries had stuffed the season. They had no two's depth & u18's side was'nt the best, thats what heywood must be weary of.
Interesting thing was it was'nt the recruits that copped the injuries, it was the home grown...

Totally agree if you are going to recruit high profile players you must have the depth to go with it especially in the Under 18`s as this is were the clubs future is not with consistantly going out buying players. I hope Heywood have got the numbers this year in Under 18`s as they did`nt field a side in the Comp last year. And knowing the people at Heywood they will be working hard to rectify this and I also hope that the recruits will spend time with these kids and not fly in and out. Getting of Heywood and on to Casterton who it also looks like they have gone out on a spending spree with some lets say expensive players as well, and looking on the clearance list looks like East have lost another key player to West Gambier in Matthew Scanlon this is a Major loss to East they could struggle this year.

no disrespect to browny but sinclair has a much better cv as a coach and the millicent recruits arent in the same league as heywoods
add to that i dont think heywood would give a rats ass if they missed out on finals they just wanna win games of footy and that is what they will do
the un18 team will play and traditionally when they get a junior team on the park they do well

Agree. Saints never had a triple AFL premeirship player running around and Johns is in the prime of his career. Add Fuller and if these guys dont get injured dont know of anyone in the WBFL capable of stopping Michael and Johns.

I think the point Bigant is trying to make is that even if you absolutely dominate 3 or 4 positions on the ground, if you have no depth and are being beaten in the other positions then the team will still struggle.
This is a worry for the future if there is nothing coming through. However, when you look at the calibre of players that have come through the Heywood U18s in the last 3-5 years (Johnstone, Bunworth x2, Gordons x2 Bamblett, Tyson Lovett-Murray, Perkins - I'm sure there is more) then it would be a safe bet there is more to come if they have an U18 team feeding their senior list each season.
I would imagine the people of Heywood will continue to grow and develop their own juniors and with a little more co-operation with the U16 team and some players returning from a sojourn in Portland they will manage enough to field a team.

Heywood signs another one. Brad Smith 198 cms ruckman. Eastern Football League league b & f. Both he and the other recruits to be unveiled in pre season cup. Only early days for Heywood, but a lot for them to get excited about.

He is a gun, many say he is the best ruckman going around in Victoria, outside of VFL/AFL. Just checked clearances and Heywood have 16 new players cleared to them and 3 cleared out, pretty impressive names on that list.

Richard Jaroscuks is who they would be referring to. A very versatile utility, who just missed out on the Rebels squad this year. He's from the Condah area, and must be thinking, 'gee it would be good to be at Heywood this year'

I really dont know how good heywood r going to be this season, yes they have some really good players coming in. But not to sure about the back line how are they going to stop the likes of heath brown and such..It would be very interest to see big mal line up at full back against portland, dont know that he would have the pace that brown has, apperently he has had a really big pre-season this year..

It wil be a tight tussle for the top spot with at least six teams capable of going all the way in 2010.
Teams to miss the finals this season I'm assuming will be Hamilton, West Gambier, Imperials and East Gambier....
Although West is an unknown quantity, could actually be alright.

Heywood coach has already confirmed that Michael will be in the forward line. Would be something to consider though.

Is the rumour true that Ben Holland is also joining Heywood?

Have heard this rumour. A mate was looking at playing at the club he was at in 2009, and the admin there mentioned Holland was leaving for Heywood.

Going to take a punt on the pre-season cup. South or Heywood to possibly take the cake.

Casterton vs Portland
West Gambier vs Heywood
East Gambier vs South Gambier
Millicent vs North Gambier
Hamilton Imperials vs Hamilton

Rd 1 predictions.

thats what we thought when he played for us last season against one of the better forward lines in country footy - cora lyn with sheen and donaldson but it never eventuated as we managed to find a few bloke to pinch hit back there. just choked their mid field supply. worked a treat i think mal went back to CHB once in the whole season and that was in the last qtr of a game we were close to dropping needless to say he won us the game from CHB. but generally was of better use up forward with 4 blokes trying to follow him around.

Obviously "crack" is cheap up that way, as you smoke plenty of it! Watched big mal last year several times in Ellinbank League and he is very, very quick over the first 20! He had no trouble keeping pace with, Lloyd, Fevola, Tarrant, Richardson and many other quick full forwards at the TOP level. I'm sure you're friend Brown is quick, but you'll be surprised how quick big Mal is! He didn't play up back much last year, but when he did, he dominated the ground level ball.

Mate Brown is a handy country footballer but casting doubts over a triple AFL premeirship players ability to handle a country footballer. Come on.

Spot on. With big Mal playing up fwd (and Johns), teams will be playing a flood of defenders back there to stop them. Good luck trying to kick 10 goals with 4 players forward of centre. The thing about having these guys with a huge presence is, they end up putting the oppositions game plan and structure out of whack.
And on a quick note, Brad Smith will dominate this competition. I would love to get on him winning the league B & F.

ha ha ha ha well maybe that is what HEYWOOD will have to do to win some games this season then. My friend brown which i dont even know, has kicked 70 odd goals for the last two seasons so heywood is going to have to do something to stop the likes of that. They need more then a foward line.....

You know, when I read your first post I assumed you were taking the piss and trying to wind up the Heywood supporters. And yep, Heywood does need more than a forward line. But from all reports there are more than just the four big names who have gone to Heywood this year, a lot of past Heywood players have returned. And those big key forwards will allow other players to move into other positions.
When you consider Heywood's Billy Bell had a good battle with Browny at times over both of those seasons you are quoting Brown as kicking 70 in, I imagine one of the AFL's best key defenders of the past decade might go ok.
You've earned your alias champ.
