Teams to watch - it's funny because a lot of quality players have moved on, but Portland is the favourite once again.
Casterton will lose Dylan Ryan, Tom McArlein and Julian Schill, West have lost Adam Merrett and other quality players, North has lost Brian Durbidge, Hamilton Ben Williams, Mark Watts, Simon Hatherell, Chris Eales, Imps - Grant Ewing, Glen Darroch etc.
At least half of the WBFL's Team of the Year is moving on. It's worrying signs. There is already question marks over the viability of the league.
If you ask anyone, it's getting worse.

VCFL, do something ... it's time for a revamp.
Ideal situation would be (I know this will upset people) -
WBFL gets scrapped and Hamilton and Imps merge.
Hampden League - Portland Tigers and Hamilton Bulldogs.
South West - Heywood Lions
Then ... Casterton could join the Mount Gambier teams and join the mid south eastern league in SA, or the Cats could go to the South West.

Radical I know, but football would be strengthened in the area and all teams would be competitive.
This would be the case because with Hamilton and Imps merging, there would be an extra 55-60 players available for the district clubs.
Common sense says do it, but who will put the notion forward?

cats also lost good youngsters sam dowler and chris meyer to edenhope/apsley

Noticed Mal Michael's name not mentioned. I gather people are aware he is one of the ex AFL players coming to Heywood. Triple preimership player will be a huge drawcard to WBFL. Cant remember a bigger name coming to the WBFL for a long time. Should be very positive for Heywood and WBFL. Courney Johns the only other name I have heard thrown about. Any one heard any other names. I notice Mark Johnson's name has come up. Would be very handy. I sence a bit of an essendon connection. Beside coach is Lovett-Murray any influence. Heard Dylan Kent may be back at Casterton. With Cammarano would form a handy foward line. Portland have some handy players returning-Lancaster, Falcone, Holt, maybe James Imbi. Some Vic sides building up nicely.

talking to a mate down portland. tells me mal micheal will be in town tomorrow(friday). also said he was talkin to clint lancaster and would be suprised if he ever pulled on the boots again which would be a shame quality footballer

Would be a shame if Clint never pulls onm the boots again. Top quality ruckman, hard to find. Likeapuma you heard any other names beside Mal that Heywood have talked to.

sam42, the blokes in the no are keeping very tight liped on the players but are confident so i guess you could just keep your eyes on the local paper. no doubt there will be some media coverage

Have heard that the 3 possible players that could be going to Heywood are Courtney Johns, Rupert Betheras and Ben Kinnear.

Pretty sure Courtney Johns is not an option anymore, and seen Rupert play 2 years ago up in the Murray League.. Still pretty smart around the ground and able to play almost anywhere, not really that fit or athletic anymore tho but would be handy...

Interested to find out who the other 3 recruits actually are..

Whats going on at East? They are losing heaps of players by the look. I see Buckley is going and Cook and Mccracken have put in to leave as well.

Portland Observer saying Huge Footy News in Fridays paper. Maybe Heywood set to release more names of recruits. Stay tuned.

Heywood has signed two more ex AFL players - Brad Fuller who played with Collingwood and Courtney Johns who was at Essendon.

Had heard of him - Fuller, but maybe he could'nt have cut it at afl level !? played in the Northern fl in Melbourne last yr....might be worth sourcing those threads on BF. I think thats a pretty handy metro league over there...

Only played 19 games with Collingwood. Heywood looking to use him more as a midfielder due to his skills by foot. It thats the case big Mal should have some nice supply into the foward line. add Courtney Johns who is a big unit and Heywood look to be shaping up very nicely. Fuller is mates with Mal.

Well done to heywood, It is good to see what looks to be a more even competition with both Casterton and Heywood recruiting well.
Hopefully that will also lead to a better U18 competition.
I heard a rumour on the grapevine that Ben Kinnear was also looking at heading Heywood way, any truth in this?
If we have an U18 interleague team this year it would be great to have these ex AFL boys involved even if it's just for one training run.

Not sure on Ben Kinnear, but Courtney Johns name hasn't hit the papers yet so who knows what else they may have up there sleeve. Great idea about the ex AFL boys helping out with an u 18 interleague side.

First prediction for the year: if Courtney Johns stays uninjured and plays predominately forward he will kick 100 goals for the season and be one of the biggest power forwards seen in this league for a long time. On a sadder note the career of Clint Lancaster may be over.

will be good for heywood if we can win a few games. we cant all go getting to far ahead of ourselves and talking to big.
