Western Bulldogs want in on possible future Good Friday AFL game

If it ends up being North v Carlton we can just play our own intraclub on Good Friday, with blackjack, and hookers! In fact, forget the intraclub!

I'd like it to be north v dogs just to irritate their supporters.

Still would be awesome to have a guaranteed friday night game every year.

I can't see any irritation or reason why that would be so?

I think it would be a wonderful day, and packing Edihad would certainly make a fair few ****ers shut up.

During my son's Aus kick days whenever the Pies played at Edihad there was free tickets available left-right and centre .

Never was once offered free tickets to a North game, just sayin....

There were a few North people on the main board being quite disparaging towards the Bulldogs. Still FWIW I think Carlton and North will get the nod
Flogs I tell ya

If you check your board or the main board the notion of it is already annoying a few of your supporters. I think they'd prefer Carlton for the extra crowd and publicity.

But seriously. Just playing on a Friday would be great for both of our clubs given our normal Sunday timeslot.

Any game on good Friday is a great thing IMO. Think Etihad would be packed regardless.

Remarkable how willing North Melbourne supporters of all people are willing to look down their nose at our club.

They have delusions of adequacy. We have accepted our inadequacy. So they denounce us despite being the definition of mediocre for the better part of two decades.

Beats me, why they think they are better than us, the last of the three clubs who joined in 1924 to get a premiership, all their fans had given up by then, will always be a small club.

I still don't know why 2 clubs have to own it. Why not rotate it - or make it the grand final replay and if it's an interstate club then play a double header with a game at the G and a night match interstate at night...or vice versa.

Honestly why make the same mistakes again.
Don't make it a grand final replay, but reward the clubs for performing well the season before. Perhaps whoever finished 1 and 2 on the H&A ladder?

Biased part of me says start it with Dogs vs North though :D

North Melbourne CEO is on SEN saying that Carlton and North are a long way into discussions about how it would work for them. Said he understands the Bulldogs perspective but the amount of work they have already done with Carlton should have an impact on the decision. Funnily enough no mention of discussions with the AFL except 'we deserve it because we thought of it first years ago'.

Nothing official has actually been announced. It's just been chest beating on the part of North Melbourne and Carlton. Particularly North Melbourne, and the megaphone diplomat Brayshaw who contributes nothing to any program he's on.

Carlton & North will not play a blockbuster game for at least 10 years, doesn't matter what day you put it on. The two dullest teams of the past decade. I couldn't pick 2 Melbourne teams that I would rather watch less. At least Melbourne provides some sadistic interest.

I agree that it should be merit based, only real way of guaranteeing a blockbuster.

I don’t believe any club deserves the right to this game year after year.
I should be spread and rotated. Same goes for ANZAC day, same as the season opener, Queens birthday.
You could reward the two highest place Melbourne teams each year and give them one of the big games otherwise all the rest, in the true aspect of equalisation
“let’s share the marquee games”

There you go equalisation solved!

Ridiculous. The AFL can't keep shafting us with a ridiculous stadium deal and rough draw every year, then just chuck us some cash at the end of the year to keep us happy. We need opportunities like this to promote our team and grow our brand to strengthen from within.

This is not a sustainable way for the AFL to continue for the future and I will have serious doubts about our potential as a club if they give this to Essendon.

Quelle surprise! The Herald Sun acting as a mouthpiece for Essendon yet again. Worked out well for both of these loathsome organisations last time. Hope it elicits the same reaction from the AFL this time.

You have to admire the chutzpah of the Herald Sun/EFC for suggesting that the first Good Friday match in AFL history would be an appropriate place to hold the re-coronation of James Hird. With the amount of hysteria that Hirds return is certain to generate. I suspect that the AFL would much rather his return be held on the dark side of the moon, than its latest, long debated marquee event. Then again this is the AFL we're talking about.

I find it amusing the the clubs lobbying hardest for Good Friday seem to think that their greatest trump card in negotiations is an accidental geographical closeness to The Royal Children's Hospital. Its interesting that they never make mention of any actual historic, on-going relationship between the two.
